I think a big part of DST (and the original game) that greatly increases replayability is also the variety of characters and variety of playstyles each one encourages. Most characters might like basing near the pig king - except monster characters. Webber will like biomes filled with spiders, Wurt will like the swamp, Wigfrid will like anything near enemies, etc. Most characters have wildly different needs, which also increases the fun when you play with friends, since you'll have to balance all those needs. A LOT of survival games have you ending up doing the same steps and approaching challenges the same way because there's only one option for a player character, but in DST everyone has their own needs and abilities and different resources to get. I have mains, but sometimes I'll just hit the random character button at the start because it's really fun just playing someone new and managing their resources.
I completely agree, the differences in play styles between the characters definitely adds a lot of variety that most survival games don’t offer. Actually today I created a new DST world with my friends and I pressed the random character button and played Wortox for the first time. Now I’m not a huge fan of soul jumping and the annoying controller mechanics but it was cool to get away from Woodie, who I almost always play as.
I absolutely agree, Don't Starve Together is amazing. The only real flaw I'd nitpick about it is that with the coming updates it seems to be increasingly losing its main appeal - Being an _uncompromising_ survival game. As more and more updates come out, survival becomes easier and dying - less common. They add much more late-game related dangerous content, yet for early game they mostly add beneficial things that make survival easier. But like I said, this is the _only_ flaw of the game in my eyes, everything else is rock solid. The bossfight and combat gameplay, whilst simplistic in nature (just ''click the enemy''), offers a lot of nuance and cool tech, the music is awesome, the constant updates always feel fresh and exciting, the lore is amazing, so on and so forth. Also, and this is not related to the video, _HOW DO YOU HAVE ONLY 61 SUBSCRIBERS?!_ This is a great video and I would've expected it to be from a channel with at least a couple thousand subscribers. You're super underrated and I hope you'll get more recognized with time.
You make a good point, I do think that I have made the game seem better than it is. Like any game it does have its flaws but because it’s such a different experience to most survival games and you are right the music and lore are absolutely amazing, it is one of my favourite games of all time. Also thank you so much, people leaving comments like this absolutely makes my day.
Over the years playing this game I actually came to realise that DST is quite a dissapointing survival game. Thats mostly because the game is really only about surviving when you are inexperienced, once you get good at the game, surviving stops being a challenge. This is why most of the older content creators only do bossruns or megabasing, just survival is no longer a core part of the game :/ I find that quite dissapointing, because thats the part I'm most interested in, however its just boring by now. Keeping yourself alive is hardly a challenge, as the environmental hazards, enemies, and resource concerns aren't too severe. Its just that there are many of them, and to the new player they are unkown, which is what leads to dying. And changing characters doesn't do much either, as a good player can consistently deal with all of these obstacles even with setbacks. DST is a good game, but I just can't say its consistently good for survival, and it also has a lot of issues, which concern both newbies and hardcore speedrunners. After a while you have to get progressing through the optional bosses, because thats the only new thing you can genuenly do. However, some of those bosses are either unfun to solo, or don't have the loot thats worth it. Some of the items they drop are only good if you want to use them against other bosses, or outright useless for solo. Playing with others could improve the experience, but then you need friends who are available when you want to play, and are on the same level as you, so playing is not just about you carrying them. Which I think don't often happens, hence why a large part of the community plays solo despite the title :(
That makes sense. I can see the point you are making, but I think I have never really made it to that point where nothings dangerous and the only thing left to do Is fight bosses. I am decently bad at the game even though I have played it for so long and that leads to me still feel the danger aspect. You also made a very good point that the game is significantly more boring solo and it's hard to get a bunch of people into one world. But if you want a more interesting experience with the same franchise, then I think you should play Hamlet or Shipwrecked (If you haven't). For me these two DLC's made me feel like a new player again, because I didn't know what anything was and I died a lot.
@@SgtPanda007 Its not just even that playing alone is boring, most of the lategame bosses are very unbalanced in multiplayer vs. solo. Dragonfly is not only hard to kite, but also has a ton of hp for a solo kill, meanwhile its a completely braindead boss if you have at least 3 people with a hambat 😂😭
@@tamas9554 That also makes a lot of sense, I fought the bee queen with my three friends and we managed to tank and kill her in like three minutes. Usually going solo it's a really hard bossfight. We can also easily kill the eye of terror, but I think that's just an easy bossfight. I more mean that it can be much more entertaining to play with a group because you can do more silly and fun things.
Okay I’m not an expert and people can correct me if I’m wrong, but here’s my understanding of it: This UA-camr named Guille, who I didn’t know about until he posted the drama, made a video where he defended the beard 777. Now that’s not a bad video and although I did stop watching him after everything that went on, I don’t think what happened to him was fair. With him basically permanently losing a bunch of his fans (I think). So yeah, that video was fine. But then Guille posted another video, and this one was three hours long. I only watched the first twenty minutes before I turned it off cause I love Jakey and his videos. But it basically talked about all of Guilles personal beef with Jakey, with not being credited for stuff and what not, and then a bunch of stuff about how he lies to his fans and stuff. I don’t know if it’s true or not but honestly I’d rather just not listen to it, but that’s just my opinion.
@@SgtPanda007that's the most immature take I've ever heard. Why even mention your opinion on a drama if you are so biased you litteraly couldn't bear to hear someone criticizing youtuber you like?
@@SgtPanda007 There's been an update I think an hour ago about it on Guille's video, they spoke and came to a conclusion. But Jakey making extremely nonsensical takes is factually correct. Like for example, he said that Ruins statues change gems based on nightmare cycle, which is hilarious :DD I wonder how many other mistakes he made, if even something this untrue managed to slip into one how his 1 hour videos. It takes away from his credibility tremendously, as I personally don't see how could he even think this was possible!
@@tamas9554 Thank you for letting me know about the update, I didn't know it was there until now. Only 161 hours? Amateur numbers.
Hold your horses buddy, those are just my steam hours and I got the game on steam last December.
After 1k hours, I can easily rush the ruins. Tallbirds tho...
