I'm thrilled to be a member- when we sold our house and moved into an apartment, I didn't have a home for my wood shop. Not only is MCT a huge upgrade, but membership is cheaper than the rent/mortgage I'd pay for a shop _without_ tools!
That is awesome!!! I have never heard of anything like that...I would go broke taking all the different classes lol ... I live in rural Alabama so I don’t think I’ll ever get to experience something that like that ... I love the country life and that’s some of sacrifices I have to live with. Thanks for sharing
@@slapoutindixie7537 glad to share. Rural life has its benefits but I find a mixture of city and rural fits my liking. Access to stuff like this can be invaluable. 👍👍
I wanted to do something like this and EVERY SINGLE PERSON said i was mad and it was stupid too much hassle. I think it is great and you have just shown me how great it would be! Its not just for the hobbyist or student. Its for the custom builder, economy even! prototypes inventors or entrepreneurs the have an idea that see a product through on a budget by bringing people together who then can pass on to a manufacturer to produce quantity that builds businesses. It is really special
I live in a metro area of 1M and we have nothing like this. What a terrific resource! I would definitely join and take some classes. Equipment wise, I have a pretty well equipped shop, but still there are times when I could use a bigger press brake, etc.
That's a pretty sweet set up! Lots of very nice equipment... and a vast number of disciplines covered.. very impressive! It would be a bit a commute for me from Texas though... I've seen some local maker spaces here but nothing as all encompassing as that shop... guess not EVERYTHING is bigger in Texas! Great video Alan!
That place is mahoosive! I’ve heard of Makers Space in Cambridge, UK, but haven’t been there yet, it’s only half an hour from me now though. I don’t think it would be even close to a third of size of the one in your video! Ah, you know, space limits in UK... but those places are such a brilliant idea!
There are other Maker Spaces in my area that are more grassroots and much smaller as a result. This is a really serious effort and making a space that can meet a lot of needs. It's impressive. I would say you should try and check out the spaces around you. Even if they aren't as big they may have something great to offer. Or maybe something worth recommending for others after you see them. 👍
That was my original idea for them. I think it's great to see how different places are setup to get ideas. Thank you. I just wish others agreed. Shop Tour videos do terribly for me. Some of my lowest viewers and hardest to produce videos. Oh well, I love making them.
Has custom fuse panels and wiring harness harness written all over it. As well as you said for making wood bucks. What population bass does it need to stay in business?
I see a lot of little project potential in there for my personal work. Some of my computer and electronics hobby stuff might make some improvements with this place. I am not privy to any business particulars but as it is a Non-Profit that works in its favor. No need to be turning major profits to keep investors happy and the ability to seek grants and donor bases that a For Profit model could not. The Hartford area is fairly small in city terms (in my opinion) at around 125,000 people, but there is a decent amount of manufacturing in that part of Connecticut. So folks who work designing or hands on at places may well want a workshop space to apply those skills to their own work. Mike, who spoke in the video a bit, is a Mechanical Engineer by day who uses the space for his own stuff.
What do you think of this serious Maker Space? Do you have a use for it?

There are so many positive uses for a place like this. It really is a wonderful situation. 👍👍
This kind of space is so amazing I will make one of these in the future to create with my community further!

I'm lucky this place isn't too far from me. I think even I will be making use of the space in the future.
Wow! What a cool opportunity! I'd love that resource in my area!
Thank so much Alan for this detailed tour of our space!
Thank you again for having me. It is great working with you.

Hahaha. Don't let other Texans hear you say that.

I love shop tours because I always learn something or how to organize something better. Thanks!

Seems like an amazing makerspace!
I've seen other co-op type ones before but this was by far the most impressive Maker Space I've seen.
Great tour. I would love to see a facility like this one in my area.
Thank you. Id love to see more of these around too.
So many nice tools in one place 😍👍
It's definitely a kid in a candy store feeling. Haha
Great video. We need more of these spaces. : ) Mahalo for sharing!
It really is an excellent idea I'd love to see available to more people.
