- I've been getting a lot of questions which are mostly related to the BMS and not VBMS (but VBMS is always blamed) so I made this very long and boring video. Hopefully, this will clear up a lot of things that aren't covered in the very poor manual and hopefully, you won't feel suicidal after listening to my boring voice 😁

20:50 That's to compensate for the different lengths of balance wires. When paired with really large packs (ie 32s 300AH prismatics) the wires can vary in length by several inches or even a couple of feet and introduce errors in balancing and internal resistance measurement (if that's included as an option in ANT-BMS's) if not acounted for, esp with 22-24 awg wires. The old solution was simply leave them all the same length and deal with a plate-of-spaghetti mess.
Thank you for this info, i have those options for my bms. But there is small problem and you seem to know about this topic.
I have a battery with a voltage of 4.189V and the bms shows 4.179V so there is 0.01V difference between real value and what bms sees. If i put any number between 0-100MR in "connect_internal_resistance", nothing changes on bms reading. What should i do, or do i just ignore that difference?

I got it... so the option for voltage calibration is in Parameters -> SystemParameters -> SystemVoltageReference, then i changed from 3.000V to 3.010V

Hey man I sent an email a couple months back but it seems the app doesn't work with android 12? I used it all the time on my S9 but once i went to S10 I can't download it. Just requesting a recompile?
Yes, sadly there was a problem when I tried to recompile it for Android 12, something to do with GPS location keys being wrong but I checked it and everything is as it should be. The trouble with a new OS release is, it brings new problems that aren't fixed until an update it released. If I do a work-around, when the Android update is released, it won't work again. I'll give it another shot in the next month, I'll have to put in some additional detection to make it future proof when they release an update.

You were just one in a great line of people I did it for mate. My next task is to diplomatically tell people they need a new phone when it comes up with all zeros or they can't change any settings. When you download the app, it even tells you that it's not compatible with certain (anything lower than Android 8) phones. Some are lucky, some aren't.
Installation of the apk was easy and I was able to connect fairly easily via BTLE. However, when I push the "SET" button on the settings screens, I get an explanation message of the command but not the command itself, so I can't change any of the settings.

If I login to google on my tablet will I still be able to download the app if I bought it in the past because all links on pc seem be dead even if logged in? I finally got around to building my second battery with a BMS bought in early 2020. I currently have VBMS v2.1.2 and it works fine with a 2019 bms but on the 2020 bms it seems to show low charge current (2amp instead of 5) and I cant even find an older version of the Ant BMS stock app to confirm if it is the app or the bms itself.

My bms is reading around 50v thru my Anderson connectors .Thru the positive and negative directly from battery pack reads around 77v.each group of balance cables climb in the correct order from 3.7 to 77v (20cell)
The app will not save my battery readings after I input cells etc just says set but then reverts to 0

I was able to connect, but am not able to change any of the parameters. I tried with 2 different android Oneplus phones that were just updated and fairly new. It lets me change the input number, but it just zeros it out right after. Any ideas on what the problem is?
Love the app, going on two years now. Thanks for the video. I am no doubt underutilizing all the features it has to offer. Gives the reassurance that batteries are balanced, protects under and over voltage situations.

Cant use VBMS When its not possible to pair.
Are you doing the pairing in the app or on the phone?
Newer android versions require you to do the pairing in the app and also, you need to allow location permissions when you first open the app (although it has nothing really to do with the app - blame Google).
Hello, I just bought the application in addition to that of ant bms, because I could not see the temperatures, with vbms the temperatures are working which is good, on the other hand I cannot save any parameters when I adjust them , does it always come back to zero? do you have any idea for that? thank you

Can you help me please 🙏 i have a 3000w hub motor 72v, ant bms 150 amp and a sabvoton controller. In the vbms app i haven't got a maximum output capacity option is this ok? Also when I'm trying to set up the hall sensor in the controllers app it keeps failing saying that the motor is reversed even if i change the numbers on the motor setting, then if i change 2 of the phase wires around it says lack voltage to low.. I have tried riding it it's fine in speed 1+2 but shut the controller down in higher speeds 🤯 please help me

Hi. Im use more then 1 year this app. Thank you, good app. One problem. Battery's graphic dont work. Galaxy Note 4 and Samsung J7 with android 5 , 6 , 7. File was recorded during 1-2 minets to have small size. How can im open on PC file .rdf ?

Hey man great video 👍... at one point you mention to connect ant bms LCD to one of the hall sensor wires for speed reading... I found the single pin on the back of the lcd after some looking around... happen to know which hall pin by chance hehe.. thanks for the informative video :)
No mate, sorry. I don't really think it matters which hall wire you connect, they all do exactly the same.

I do not understand for sure why there are different current rating for charge and discharge. I can see that there are 2 mosfet arrays connected anti serial on their Drains, so one Mosfet array body diode can always act as a diode if mosfet is not activated and therefore blocking current in one direction. The BMS has a charge current rating of 50A and discharge current rating of 120A, but if both mosfet arrays are enabled this should be different or am i wrong? i am interested because 50A regencurrent would be too low for my application
You are correct, it should be 120A in either direction but, for some unknown reason, they limited them to 50A because they probably thought that there's no battery which can handle any more. It's the firmware in the BMS which is the limitation, so there's nothing I can do about it 😖
@@Vortecks Thank you, I needed to checked it and took the bms alive for the first time with 8S. Charging current can be set to a maximum of 150A and discharge current up to 600A, even though the message "Are you sure..." suggests different maximum values. Currents above that and the "set charging current" request will be ignored and for +600A discharge current your app gives a "out of range" message. App version 1.0, maybe some days old, and things changed a bit til now^^ So i could not actually test it but if the firmware accepts 150A and shows it after refresh, i assume it should do that. For current capacity, i checked the mosfet data, just the mosfets IF both arrays are closed are typ. 0,82mOhm, so 150A should give heat in the range of 20 Watt, not nothing, but with proper heat sink it should be possible to sustain 150A in both directions.
Hi Tony been a while since I used app on my scooter, it no longer working on ant24s, but the crappy ant app does work, tried different phones as well, any ideas? Could it be the update killed my app?

After i setting my ant bms,my ant bms bluetooth cannot connect again,plse help,.
I had some active balancers chopping through some 12 volt cables. The BMS, alarm was active very often. Once I repaired the live 12v cables of some were almost severed (copper was exposed) the alarm hasn’t sounded. Thankful I don’t ground the frame and the battery negative is routed on a different path.

I downloaded the right program given for free by the seller of aliexpress, it was well hidden in the files that were sent to me. As I could not find it, I downloaded the vbms program which I paid 6.99 euros. This program did not work with my new Samsung tab E tablet still under warranty. Now I have the MYBMS program and it works but many words are in Chinese characters. My first problem is that I made a lithium ion 18650 pack in 16S but the application tells me that there are 17S! What to do ??

Upon charging the charge line shows over charging in red on the charge status line. What’s up with this? 2 of the 14 s were over the 4.1v I set for my high cut off. The rest were in the 4.03-6 range. The cells were balancing.
Should the BMS not cut if if it’s over charging,
My battery monitor(magnum was showing it was still pushing in 20amps.)

Hi Jim,
I wrote the VBMS app, I have no connection with the BMS itself.
If it shows that it's got an over-voltage cell and it's cut off, the BMS has done its job and disconnected the charger. Your charger will charge the battery as a whole, not individual cells and every BMS has limitations with regard to how much balancing it can do.
Hello Tony i have a m365 Pro which won't turn on after an unsuccessful firmware flash. I still can connect to it via bluetooth but can't ask the version or any other information. Can you help me please?

Edit: Just finally got to setting up my new BMS on my 52v battery and I am very happy with the app!
Does anyone know if there is a stripped down version of VBMS? So you can check if the app is able to connect to the BMS before you buy the full version. I have tried most apps for BMS on Google Play but the only one I can connect to is MA-YI BMS. Which is okay if you just want to read the voltages and a bunch of Chinese characters.
If MA-YI BMS app works, you probably don't have an ANT BMS which is what I designed VBMS to work with.

Yes mate, I was made aware of the new ones late last week. I've ordered one (the 450A version) and it'll be here in the next month. The app does (sort of) work wit it, you can see some things but you can't set any parameters.
It's not going to be easy because they've changed a lot of things but I will crack it 😁
PS the 450A BMS will eventually be fitted in V4 which I'm starting over the winter 😉

I've got the 24s version but only have an 18s battery. Can the BMS be configured to 18s without using blue tooth and the app ? but on the screen it came with ?
Not that I'm being tight about buying the app, but I dont use a smart phone.
As far as I know, there's no way of changing anything without bluetooth connection.
Nice one Tony. I have just fitted another ANT BMS to my power wall I have spoken of before, and as you just said, they all have the same MAC addresses as I found out at the weekend with both powered up they only show as one Bluetooth device on the mobile.
Conclusion.....use 2 mobiles, powering each BMS up at a time to work out which is which. I bet you don't have that problem with an Ebike lol. Many thanks
Ahhh but I do suffer from it - I have one on my bike, one on my scooter and one for development........ it's a nightmare!
I've been trying to think of a way to pair to multiple units and (if you have more than one unit paired) you can choose which one to display.

All you need is a momentary push button but please make sure it's decent quality, the last thing you want is to have to strip all your hard work down to switch it off.

You can stack any BMS. The trouble with the ANT BMS is that the MAC address is sometimes the same because they didn't program them correctly. You might have problems connecting to more than one.

That was never actually a Max Amps setting, it was an Amps calibration factor but it was lost in translation 😣

I cannot change any of the BMS parameters. I enter the value, press set, it asks if I want to continue, I press YES and nothing happens, the value goes back to zero. I'm trying to change the number of cells but I can't change any of them. It's connected to the BMS and everything is reading properly so I don't know what's wrong. I've tried doing factory reset, reboot, power off, no changes. Also in the BMS parameters section, it's all blank, there's no set values and I can't change them. I saw somebody else said they had this problem, what was the solution? I'm using Android

@@Vortecks Hi, I am having the same problem as Jordan with my Ant BMS pn:16ZMA-TB-7-16S-80A. The instructions that came with the ANT-BLE16ZMUB (with software version 16ZMUB00-210625A) tell me to use Wechat and scan a mini-program that is a Bms-app (completely in Chinese) and by means of examples-pictures-instructions I was able to connect and setup the basics. I bought your program and it connected and reads the actual data but not any of the voltage, current, temperature, or any other settings. Writing to the BMS does not work either. Any suggestions? (because my Chinese is not that strong)
How ya doin guys. I recently purchased the 8s 32s ant and using 15s atm i also have the same issue i cannot change any of the parameters it goes straight back to o. Any help would be great thanks. As i am waiting on the battery pack to be sorted before fitting to my ev.

Wondered if you can help i have a ant 200 amp bms like the one you have its 16cell all wired up correctly and connecting to my phone when I turn the switch off it drops aboit 10 colts but still has 47 volts though the main output do you know what would cause this i havent charged it yet just waiting for a charger any help would be nice thanks
That's normal. Although it's powered off, the output is still live but, if you connect anything to it, the voltage will drop off to virtually nothing. It's only residual voltage with virtually zero current.

@@Vortecks i have a push button with a small led in it. This so when turned on it will show me. However. Due to this MOSFET voltage "leaking" when turned off, the LED stays on (dimmed). Is there anyway to make the LED turn off all the way?

It's a low voltage, low current switch and it contacts 2 wires. You can use anything you like as long as it's momentary (meaning it doesn't stay engaged).

You're much better off paying a bit more and getting a decent one from RS.

How I can calibrated the amps at the screen because the amps are higher but the screen don't show so much amps
As far as I know, there isn't a feature for this. I might do some research into calibrating them with a file or solder (yes, I am serious) 😁

does the logging continue when the phone is locked? i don't have a phone holder on my bike
To save power, some manufacturers force apps to suspend when the phone is locked but I made VBMS a 'service' so, in theory, it shouldn't make a difference if the screen is on or off.

@@Vortecks one more question, does changing settings on the phone modify firmware on the BMS itself, so it will keep settings when the phone is disconnected?
@@bradleymorgan8223 Correct. All settings you make, are stored when the BMS is turned off and the phone disconnected.

Hey my current is Not right how can I calibrate it ?
I give the bms 84 and 5A
But only 1.8 is on the screen and when I drive the screen show 16 am but I pull over 30amp i can look that up on my phaserunner controller
I found that the maximum output current parameter isnt what it says... its a compensation value to fine tune the current reading 😕

Today I noticed that when my ANT BMS is turned off I can still measures some voltage on the out.
Anyone here who can verify this for me?
It's because the mosfets have a small leakage current. If you add a load (try a 1k resistor) the voltage should drop to close to 0.
@@ReubenHorner Thank you for the info. The thing is that I have an on / off switch to turn the bms on / off. It has a small licht in it. When turned off the light is still glowing a little bit because the leaking mosfets. So will soldering a 1k resister over the + / - fix this?
