I always just took the Oily Oaf as a butter beer with a special name that the Dwarves gave it. Butter beer can be made non alcoholic by simply keeping it on the heat longer and vaporizing the alcohol out leaving just the taste. Dwarves (and more specifically the company) probably called it an Oily Oaf because of the culture of Dwarves being hard and tough workers. You get pretty dirty and oily when you dig, smith, and craft mechanisms and Dwarf related things all the time.
I've always thought the description of the oily oaf made it sound like something I 100% want to try even though I'm not into alcohol much. I absolutely need to try this in the future. You're a legend, Mr. In The Name Of.
Thanks man! I made both of these drinks and they were both DELICIOUS! I prefer the oily oaf tbh. Thank you so much for these videos! ROCK AND STONE BROTHER!
This is absolute top tier content! I really love the history you break down and really getting into the technique. It's so fun and lighthearted but information dense. Keep up the good work! You and AxisKronos are my 2 favorite DRG content creators!!! ❤❤
My father loves mixing his own drinks. Even though he doesn't play video games, I'll have to show him these videos. He'll probably find these unique cocktails super interesting, despite him not knowing what DRG is
Absolutely jumped for joy when I saw that you'd posted this! Double points coz I know someone who loves a good Old Fashioned so I am going to make sure to send this to him, too. Amazing work! Rock and Stone!
Why do I watch this with such deep interest while I've never tasted alcohol and will do my best not to ever get into it? BECAUSE I STILL HAVE ROCK AND STONE IN THE HEART
Hey I'm no expert in cocktails but I think I saw somewhere you can get more of the orange flavour by using a lighter to heat up the peel. Great content as always!
I actually was running an experiment on what brands of drinks looked the best over my facebook page with people that I know actually drink(unlike me) to see what they think would be the best drink based soly on their lable, and Oily Oaf was pretty much number 1.
I always imagined Oily Oaf to be a oldfasion style beer, probably a traditional pilsner, with a butterscotch tone to it. However I'm a whisky guy so I will defiantly give this less "safe for work" option a go! edit: ROCK AND STONE BROTHA
broooo right after the little man joke, that shot composition at 7:28 killed me. got to get back and pause to fully appreciate and even comment on it greetings from buenos aires
@@DrillingInTheNameOf that's easy! Drill right through! Lol love your content man, find myself coming every now and again to some videos of yours. Also love the Little Egg Fella
I'd be willing to try this, I've always wondered what the Oily Oaf tastes like. Although I don't drink beer it would be nice to try one that doesn't taste like dirt
Buttery flavor, diacetyl,is a flavor beer can just have but it's considered a flaw so you usually won't taste in store bought beer. Also a flavoring you can purchase. So I imagine an oily oaf tasting something like a Guinness with a touch of of diacetyl butter flavoring added.
A neat trick I picked up from J. Kenji López-Alt - If you put water (just enough to cover the bottom) into a sauce/frying pan, it's easier to tell when you should put the butter in. Once the water starts boiling, either wait for it evaporate completely, or just dump it into the sink etc & put your butter in. This is extremely useful to control how browned your butter gets & prevent burning since butter does not start melting until basically just above the boiling temperature of water, rather than heating up the butter *along* with the pan.
This is great. I don't drink but I was none the less entertained all the way through. I think the most Dwarf like part (besides the idea of putting butter IN the alcohol) is the single large ice cube. It offers less surface area to melt water into the drink diluting it, is efficient (1 cube no fuss no muss), and fits the blocky hard edge industrial aesthetic of Dwarves.
I will never make one myself (because I am lazy) but I really appreciate the effort you put in this series and one can tell that you are definitly having fun with it.
This was a really interesting watch! Your take on the Oaf is really fun. I had mused about making DRG inspired cocktails at home too, and my Oily Oaf inspired one was essentially dpctpred hot buttered rum, with molasses playing the part of the "oil". I'm excited to get through the rest of this playlist in one go :D
I may not be a drinker, but DRG really makes me wanna drink just to be able to taste the Oily Oaf. Of all the beers in the game, the Oily Oaf is the one that is my personal favourite, and one that just sounds absolutely delicious.
Awesome Delta props sponser! Ive gotten a few things from them. And even talked to them before the impact axe was added saying it should be! I should grab one sometime.
Isn't there something that can give a buttery/nutty flavor that isn't butter? Also no need to apologize. The single large ice cube is fantastic and gives that touch of class to things.
I can't wait for the knockout stout episode with the chloroform, cyanide and tetrodotoxin additives with a hint of any other poison of your choosing I heard that cocktail is pretty popular amongst kings and queens from the medieval era
Didn't try this but I know by the ingredients, that both a coconut infused or a butter flavor infused rum with a syrup and bitters kick combining in yeah, that would be quite pleasant. Bet a bit of cherry flavor or else a dark, wheaty bread tasting beer flavor would compliment the flavors as well. But it's cool just the thought of a buttery rum.
This seems so fun to make, i actually might end up trying to make the black reach blonde when the time comes, and i just found out about this today lol. But yea amazing video, love it
So I've never done anything close to brewing beers (non-alcoholic cause of childhood trauma {humorous trauma}). You talked about how difficult it was to infuse fats because you couldn't remove it like you could the strawberry you used in your example. So I paused the video and zoned out thinking how that would work and though about freezing the oil and putting it in cheese cloth or some porous cloth material. Then dropping it into the drink and keeping it in the fridge. The cooler temperature would hopefully keep the fat solid enough that it wouldn't seep out of the baggie. Once I thought of that and pressed play on the video again, I was surprised how close my idea was to the actual solution of just freezing the drink.
I wish you had a version which incorporated actual beer, considering these are all supposed to be beers. Also a version that's with heavy foam would be neat, that way someone could draw on it if they wanted to.
Of course I mean according to the achievement for putting all the barrels in the pod tells us "You are the reason Mission Control drinks." And I take that with pride.
When I read "oily oaf" my first guess was oat oil, maybe they press the must after brewing to squeeze every last bit of liquid which results in this very cheap, industrial beer that might have some oil. You couldn't possibly get a decent head if you have any grease in your beer, but even leaf lovers is foamy so I'll rule the look of the model out as inaccurate.
Glad to have been recommended this video by the almighty algorithm. As soon as I recover from the Rock Pox (bad cold) and get my pay from management, I'm going to try this. Do you perhaps have a discord community?
Let me know how it goes! No discord community yet. Not even sure what that would entail honestly lol. I just bumble around in there trying to get into a chat with MusNothus.
