- This probably won't be very interesting to most of this channel's usual viewers, but I wanted to test out adding my own narration to a video. I used this rather crummy footage of driving through my hometown back in the day--specifically, Saturday, September 6th, 1986. I had to fight the tracking all the way, but it's mostly watchable. My mom was taking me to my weekend job, as a "Bingo Boy" at St. Pius X. School. My friends and I filmed in the school quite a bit (we weren't given permission for this, so don't tell Father Minturn), and I hope to get some more footage of our dopey shenanigans uploaded at some point...
I remember the 78¢ movie theater in 1978, across from the Plainview library!
Excellent job with the narration. I lived in Melville back then.
This makes me think of my dad when I show him this video he’s gonna love it.
This was so awesome for me to see. I was born in East Meadow in 1986, but moved out of state in the mid 90s. This was so interesting to see what LI looked like around the time I was born. Thanks for the upload.
I was born in 1986 in Central General Hospital in Plainview on Old Country Road.
Lots of memories. Thank you!
Loved the video !
Brings back so many memories.
You just blew my mind. I went to St Pius from 1960 to 1969. It was of course, my family parish. My father and us kids were in the Pius Players. My first job was at the Morton Village Movie Theater. My cousin, Tom St P was a priest a St Pius for years.
Interesting that there was no traffic light at Kennedy drive and Washington Ave allowed for passing. The dairy farm ended up becoming a nursing home.
Hey do you have any other videos of you driving around Plainview specifically in the 80s or 90s.
I don't think so, but if I discover one, it'll turn up on this channel...
POBHS Class of 84.
I was 22 and a few days away from working as a TA in Kindergarten
More video
The bad thing about videos from this time that were made in a moving car. People are always heavy on the zoom so that you can never really focus on anything. I have a similar video of my home town of Farmingdale where I'm in the front seat of the car with the video camera and I'm zooming all over the place. I wish I knew what I know now about filming.
Plainview was an odd place in retrospect- almost everyone I knew was Jewish or Catholic. I can only remember a couple of Protestants and one was a Mormon.
Regal deli still there.
LET'S GO METS!!!
I grew up there
That was JFK HS on the right on Washington Ave
Oh, is it JFK and then Mattlin past that? I swear, I never once set foot at either, may as well have been on the far side of the moon...
@@HugoFaces Mattlin was first, JFK was further down the road closer to the pool.
You can't see JFK from Washington Ave, that was Matlin
Went to both mattlin, Kennedy . Old bethpage grade school
