The fact that Kirk is teaching is the icing on top. Just listening to him play is so much fun and entertaining that I've watched this video multiple times already.
Still amazed we get to see living legends dive into their craft. Pretty special opportunity and thank you Kirk for sharing your time and thoughts. And of course thanks papa
To me, playing w/ that kind of feel is like golf. You know a hundred things you have to remember / feel when tee’ing off but the excitement of the moment takes over and you get in you own way. Same w/ playing way behind the beat or in the pocket. It’s a masterful skill and Kirk is one of the best at it.
Kirk Fletcher, Jack Ruch, say no more! Love how Kirk goes into BB King and just nails everything about what BB was all about. Then…. Paul Kosoff, yes absolutely…. Oh my! Ending with melodic playing, man now I’m singing along. Just loved it. Big smile on my face, great start to the weekend, thank you!
Kirk is one of my favorite modern guitar players. He is a monster player with an incredible feel to boot. It helps that he is a completely genuine, humble, and sweet guy. I love his rhythm playing as well.
Kirk is one of my favorite people and players on the planet! I’ve had the pleasure of playing with him and hanging out with him on many occasions. He is a world treasure.
Thank you, Brett! Kirk is such a sweetheart!! GREAT fun to listen to him. And he's so humble. The guy is a monster - but so unassuming. That's a blessing in so many ways!
Merci Brett,So much talent in one room and they all know exactly how to work together perfectly.Merci beaucoup pour la belle leçon ..What feel ! So nice.and .Kirk!!Unbelievable talent....BRAVO!!!!
That opening solo had a real personality. I felt like I'd already been listening to the song and all the words, and then here was this solo just telling me the hardest part of the story. Great playing, Mr. Kirk!
Really useful video. Loved the solid rhythm Brett laid down at the beginning which allowed Kirk to bring out the best phrases. Great sound and advice. Thank you.
Brett is such a cool cat. I have met him 2x, once at Sweetwater and the other at the Tom Bukovac show Nashville 12/20. He actually remembered me. A the Buk show he talked with my dad and about our Italian heritage for quite a while..generous w/ is time....total class act and great guy...OH.. and he plays a hell of a guitar.. THANK BRETT!!! Love Ya Bro!
I've been waiting for Kirk's course to materialize and make its way to this (semi) patient mere mortal! Just a line to say thanks before I dive into it.
Where was the internet in 1977... I would be a reasonable player now....the current generation that pick up the guitar been gifted this huge data base and tutors. Keep this stuff going it's brilliant.
You guys are great! Towards the end - totally appropriate reference to Europe and guitarists John Norum and Kee Marcello regarding playing with feel. Tons of it right there too!
Not guessing there’d ever be tabs for the opening performance in this video? The rhythm and solos were awesome, i purchased the course this video was promoting and hoped it would be in there but unfortunately it wasn’t. Just love the melody in this jam. Heck I’d even pay extra just for that!! 😊
Cool stuff! People really sleep on pick shape, thickness and material for tone. Try a bunch of different styles and hear the difference on your own guitar.
Amazing! Kirk is emotion x10! Guess the next step is to get Josh Smith and family to sell here in CA and move to Nashville/suburbs therein. Love the show Papa!
Great video! You know I think you come across 2 types of guitar players in the world. You have the "guitar players guitarist" those who are technical maestro's the John Pertrucci, Guthrie Govan,Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Tim Hensons of the world. Then there are the "Musicians guitarists" like Kirk in here, David Gilmour Janis Joplin,BB King, Robben Ford, Linsey Buckingham, Mark Knopfler etc. Just people who would have been amazing musicians no matter what instrument they played or even if they were producers because their feel and connection to a song and storytelling is so deep and strong.
Good stuff! Being Kirk focuses on the notes of the chord so much is he sticking to the parent scale or is he switching scales with the chord changes? Thanks a lot!
Most important statement......"I'm playing the least as possible....to make the notes sing"! As guitarists we sometimes play too many notes or too fast losing "expression". Less can be so much more!
@@BrettPapa Thanks man, keep up the great work ! More from Kirk pls.... if you could get him to breakdown his 335 video from Carter guitars that would be insane !
Kirk is moving strings and he sounds great. There's a difference between playing notes and bending all around a note. That's feeling and emotion. Feeling sounds way better than speed...to me.
Why might it be that when I jam over the first chord progression, whenever I try to outline the 5 chord (B) and play dominant... it does not sound right. Should I stick to just playing the major stuff over it? Thanks!
This progression has a rock feel with a major 5 chord, so yea, that flat 7 in B mixolydian (dominant) is going to clash, but you can briefly use the major 7 of the B major scale as a leading tone to the B over the 5.
@@SONICBOOMERSOONER Yea, it's a Maj triad.... but it's not a Bmaj"7". The flat 7 for this chord is A... which is a tone contained in the E scale they are playing in. And it's a chord in the progression, so still not sure why it sounds odd to me using it on the 5? I would think it would at least sound better than hitting a Maj 7 of B (flat 5 in E major).
Yea, I shouldn't have used the word clash, but rather it just sounds odd in this progression. It's a feel thing, and the major 7 of B works well as a passing tone because the it's almost like we did a quick key change to B Major, and there's no flat 7 in the B chord being played to get in the way. And yes, if you were to end a phrase on the major 7th, it would sound weird too.
The more important thing that I should have mentioned is that the 5 chord isn't functioning as a dominant, because the movement is away from the tonic chord rather than toward it (resolving) at that stage.
This man don’t need no rhythm section ! He IS the rhythm section !! …. And Brett you are awesome 👏 and your taste in music is just what I like 👍🏻
Thanks Paul!
The fact that Kirk is teaching is the icing on top. Just listening to him play is so much fun and entertaining that I've watched this video multiple times already.
Thanks for checking it out Sean!
Kirk gets some of the best tones ive ever heard.
It's his hands! He sounds like that through everything haha!

Could listen all day you two. Do an album together...

Excellent as always ! What a lovely man he is . Would have loved a break down of that intro jam . You both sounded great .
Thanks Jon! Kirk is awesome!

Yeah that is true
I use the top corner of the pick too. It’s more like using my thumb. I wish someone made a thumb pick shaped like that.
Yeah that would be cool!
Get a piece of broken motorcycle wind screen and shape it on a belt sander
These two could jam one chord and one lick and it'd be fantastic.
Thanks Tony! Glad you like the vids!
@@BrettPapa
No problem
And yes, I got a LOT out of this one.
Been struggling with a lot of what you guys were doing.
honestley you are incredible
Thanks for checking out the vid!
Thanks again Papa daddy.
Sure thing!
It said 'Feel' in the title and I already knew it would be Kirk!
Haha!
Awesome 👌🏼
Thanks Ron!
The man is sick to the bone.. ❤
Yeah he's one of my favorites to have over. So good and such an awesome guy.
what a master!
Kirk is the man!
So dope. So what is that Badd9 chord with the D? And is Kirk playing the major scale over b flat?
Good stuff! Being Kirk focuses on the notes of the chord so much is he sticking to the parent scale or is he switching scales with the chord changes? Thanks a lot!
Usually it ends up being a mix of both
@@BrettPapa Thanks!

Also Kirk is so laid back and no ego!
Yep cool as they come. Very humble.
Kirk...do you use a heavy pick when using the rounded side? Thanx papa for this.
Sure thing!
Yep Fender heavy 🙏🏾
Count me in !!!
Yes! Thanks for the support!
What about BB king during the "Kent" years? I think that is what you guys were referring to for when he goes off more.
Ah cool I'll check that out.
Unreal, do more teaching videos with Kirk, like that simple progression stuff with the b flat 9 😂 what signal chain was Kirk using here ?
Straight into a Lazy J J20 for the most part.
@@BrettPapa Thanks man, keep up the great work ! More from Kirk pls.... if you could get him to breakdown his 335 video from Carter guitars that would be insane !
Kirk Fletcher perfect 👍😎💯🇦🇷✌️

Yea,yea,yea!!!! 😊🎸
Haha!

Awesome!! the tabs of that are in the course?? greetings from Spain
There are tabs for the performances in the course.
@@BrettPapa ok, thanks for answer!!
Hello, nice Video!!!
How can I buy the course? Are there any differences, if buying it from Germany? I tried it and it didn’t work. Thank you 🙏
Hello! No there shouldn't be. Just hit up the support at brettpapa.com and we will get you taken care of!
I would love to see Kirk play some gospel guitar!!
It is awesome!
phoning it in or meaning it...good one!
Thanks for watching!
Yessir!
Woohooo!
Everything sounds great but that 335 is another level
Yeah that is a great guitar!
Cant believe Brett didn't listen to Paul Kossoff :)
I know and tons of my buddies out here rave about him. Guess I am late to the party haha!

Yeah Kirk is the man!
Killer content.
Thanks for checking it out!
His name should be on the post ? Two Marshalls Heavy Blues Rock
Yeah it is now.
Kirk Fletcher plays so tasty. So smooth...
For sure!
You know Kirk can play Mississippi Queen..lol
Kirk can play just about anything.
The reality is you can’t teach feel. You either you got it or you don’t. Kirk has it that’s for sure.
You can the student just has to be willing to put in the time. Seen it many times.
I wonder what the Free song Kirk couldn't remember was...
To a degree what he's trying to extract from Kirk can't be taught. You have to fiigure it out yourself or it has to be intuitive.
Everyone has to figure it out on their own. Sometimes it helps if someone can show you how they got there.
Definitely, I love all these videos you're doing with Kirk his rhythm is muah.
If you treat pentatonics like shell chords, you can see why trying to learn scales is pointless.
