I am 84 years old and have been painting on and off for thirty years. It is only after hearing you and seeing your work that I realise that I have been barking up the wrong tree. I wish that I have enough years left to put into practice what I have learned from you. Thank you Stefan for improving my life. Doug Fanthome
Stefan I love the idea of of being creative ! The concept of crochet ,music various crafts and art!! It is what moves people of any age to create!! I love my friends who do these things!! Again thanks for being here!!
I love your tutorials for many reasons. You’re a very gifted teacher and you have a great understanding of human nature. I don’t think there’s one tutorial of yours where I haven’t learned lots and have been inspired to try to keep improving my paintings. As I squeeze out the paints onto my palette , I always squeeze out a bit extra because of what you said about being stingy with paint. I also invest in good quality brushes because of your advice. I find the focal point before I start and I try to put as much light as I can into the painting. I buy decent canvasses which I stain before I start. All because of you , so a huge THANK YOU 🙏 😊❤
You are a Master Artist and you share your knowledge ! How lucky we are that you are here , Im 52 yrs old and have never taken any art class yet Ive painted for so long but Ive learned so much from you .Thank you .
Wow- what a great video. I love all the videos from you that I’ve listened to, but this kind of heart and understanding is what my heart needed. Thank you Stefan.
This is an excellent video. I have watched almost every video of yours on UA-cam. What I liked the most in this one is that you are displaying wonderful art pieces as you speak. And what you said was coming from the heart.
I concur with your definition of Liberace! I was totally mesmerized by his piano playing at the one show I saw him live at. I was so fortunate to be close to the stage too - so had a great experience.... one I've never forgotten. I saw him about 2 years before he passed.
Thank you so very much for sharing, and teaching. You really have helped me find myself as an artist. I am 60 years old, and have been an artist all my life. But as you said, I was only painting what I saw, and not painting my reaction to it. I feel so foolish, having wondered all these years what I was doing wrong. Thank you so, so, very much!
Stefan, I have been viewing many of your videos for the past few weeks or so. I decided to try to go back to the early videos and gain the front end knowledge. I have found that this video is so great because it displays some of your work. I can see in your work what you have been teaching in the more current vieeos. The emphasis on light and the effect of light is so evident in these great painting of yours. Great work with the videos and the teaching.
i love your videos ive been an artist for 26 years ive shared my work on facebook and given lots to family if i werent so lazy about all the work to market my work i could get some money but i just create for the love of making colored art
Beautifully said and damn truthful! After many years of searching I have discovered the abstract to be the way, yet I find all you say quite universal, especially about expressing that special intimacy of ones own being. Thanks Stefan.
Paul Cezanne, the master of "sur le motif"... "I think my mind becomes clearer when I am in the presence of nature. Unfortunately, the realization of my sensations is always a very painful process for me. I can't seem to express the intensity that beats in upon my senses. I haven't at my command the magnificent richness of color that enlivens nature...look at that cloud, I should like to be able to paint that!...Painting certainly means more to me than anything else in the world..." Thanks for an enlightening lecture..
"fear of being judged"...wow, that sums up my entire life; as a child, mom wanted me to take drawing/painting because I enjoyed drawing a lot and Dad told her it was a waste of time and money,... or years later I would hear from others the common phrase "you are not finished, right?". Another time, I showed a painting I was working on to a professor who taught me to paint with watercolors but liked how I painter in oils 10 years ago...well, 10 years later, I go to him thinking he would be happy to see that I was painting again and that he remembered me...all he said without much of an expression who I was, "the hand is too small" and kind of brushed me away. I guess I am too sensitive and that's why I keep anything I do to myself. It has always been hard to explain these feelings and now I hear it from you. Once again, you speak as you know all of us from deep into our hearts. Thank you Stefan!
+Maribel Jusino-Iturralde It's the only profession that ask a person to spill everything they know and every feelings you have just to be judge thumbs up or down in under a second, Even a lawyer or Doctor has to interact for some time and a piece of music requires some time requested from the listener to make a comment but painting ........
+Stefan Baumann Thank you Stefan. Wish you were here teaching. If you ever come to New Jersey to teach one of your classes, I will be the first to sign up for it. In the meantime, I should give you that call and start painting...
Dear Stefan, I watched all your videos and I watch/listen to them again while painting. So inspiring and pushing me to do better work! Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us!
iearn on you tube just started but i already know good from bad art/artists i love your videos you are so spot on in yoir analysis of beginners 🤪😂 thank you thank you for your tutorials 🥰!!! x
I could listen to you teach all day! And that's saying a lot,,,with my ADD, I *drift* into lala land quite easily!lol I've created and painted my entire life, and you said SO many things in this that I needed to hear. THANK you for sharing all this knowledge.
I liked very much the thoughts about the experience of a painting - and the phrase : “ does the painting represent the one that painted it?” The looking at something that goes beyond the painting as such - feel the connection with the moment -
Your such a great artist and speaker, you should have a PATREON ACCOUNT if you haven't got one.. You would be surprised how many people might donate to help you keep sharing all your knowledge.. Thank you for that
I needed to hear this..........I have asked myself this question more than one time. I don't sell them, but I enjoy it and I guess that is what it is really about :)
Wow, this is a very good talk. I learned a lot. I could listen to you all day. Thanks. I hope to see lots more videos. You are so good at speaking, teaching, and encouraging, and expressing what it means to paint. Thanks!
Definitely think sharing your work in a variety of ways is important. Whether it's online, as gifts to friends and family, or on a lesser level. Sometimes I just am like... Why is this sitting in my closet or a drawer, let me give this to someone or even sell it.
Hi stefan. I have watched some of your videos & find them very informative & likeable. although I find subject matter or genre plays an important part of what artists get a mention ( e.g: van gogh, sergeant monet ect....) I 'am a big fan of fantasy art & I think that the likes of frank frazetta & boris vallejo are both excellent oil painters & fine artists. Just a thought.
i think i fully well understand what you are saying. there is pure music, painting, dancing, etc. finding how to put your soul on the canvas is where sometimes i shine! but the art really sucks. for me, I will learn to put the two together. I will not do it for you, or my wife or children but because I have been there as a martial artist, it is called the void. if you ever read the book of five rings, written by the last samurai you may understand the void. its what you talked about the entire time to me, and it was wonderful. Thanks for sharing
I do have tutorial DVD's for sale at my website at Stefan Baumann.com and will be doing some for UA-cam. My mission is to fill in the gaps where other artist show how to paint but don't talk and give information . My PBS television show has my painting on location in the National Parks ask you program director at you PBS Station to air it. its called The Grand View America's National Parks Through the Eyes of an Artist
If you ask a mountain climber, why do you climb mountains? In jest and probably with a crooked smile, they will respond by saying something like, 'because they are there!'. Humoring you. When people ask me, why do you carve, paint, do portraits, sculpt, etc... I simply respond in kind ''so as to know that i am alive!"
In this video your paintings are looking much better than in your free e-book, there they are somehow muddy/blur/dull, I even thought you are not as good painter as you are a teacher, but now I see it has something to do with the quality of photos.
hum? when one gets so involved and busy within one painting , that they maybe just filling the canvas , then would it be of some help if one has 3 paints on the go if they have a resistance to slow down to see or sense what they are trying to express.

i have learned more from your videos in the past month than i have in my past four years of drawing.
Stefan, I just discovered your videos and am REALLY enjoying them. You know your stuff and have great way of expressing it. Thanks so much!

Lots of breathtaking photographs of painting.
Stefan. I really love your sense of humour. It makes the information you share that more enjoyable.
I concur with your definition of Liberace! I was totally mesmerized by his piano playing at the one show I saw him live at. I was so fortunate to be close to the stage too - so had a great experience.... one I've never forgotten. I saw him about 2 years before he passed.
He was a big part of my life growing up in Lake Tahoe where we would interact with him often
You are right on! My ears pricked up and thought, that's me. Probably everyone else too. 👏🏻
We are all alike
Thank you so very much for sharing, and teaching. You really have helped me find myself as an artist. I am 60 years old, and have been an artist all my life. Such beautiful works. Words fall short in describing my reaction to them. Just stunning.
Thank you, Stefan, for such wonderful lectures.
+Jerry Subrosa Thanks Jerry
Loving your videos. I always start my classes off with doodling warm up which everyone loves. Great way to break the mould of thinking!!

Secret of art is to communicate to others
It is so true. this video is so touching. Thank you.

Wow! I love how your art is being shown as you talk, do you still have the white house one?
Incredible

If I put my work in a show , my main hope , is that my work not look like everyone else.

Stefan, did you do most of these paintings plein air, then added the animals from the use of reference shots?

I related to everything you said, except I do not have a huge ego. Being humble, and wanting to look presentable is acceptable.
