    I bought a Montblanc 145 new in 1999. This was my first fountain pen and the only one I owned for a long time. In 2017 or 2018, it stopped working because I had not cleaned it since I bought it. I did not know back then that fountain pens needed to be cleaned. So I put it away. I found it in my drawer a few months ago, gave it a good cleaning, and it is writing very well now. I like this pen a lot. The small size works well for me. I find the bigger pens, like the 149, to be too large to use comfortabley.

    I bought a 145 brand new. I would say now a few years later that I regret it. Granted it was the 90th anniversary special edition, but I think for what the pen is, the simplicity of the materials and small nib -- it isn't at all worth the $500-600 retail price, especially given other great pens in that price range from Japanese companies. The good thing is there is a healthy market for second hand Montblanc pens, so if you want one you can usually find a decent one for a good price -- I think at $200 it is an absolute steal. The 145 is good for someone with smaller hands that wants an introduction to Montblanc or a pen that is small enough to carry around. It's basically the only pen in the Montblanc line that isn't a piston fill, so there's that if that's important to you. Great review, thanks a lot!

      Great story and I very much appreciate your thoughts.
      I think that a pen price is about 50% brand, and that is definitely the case for Montblanc. The value comes if bought used in great condition for roughly 1/2 the price.

    As a seasoned business traveler I always brought my Chopan with me. If it ran out of ink I could pop in a matching color cartridge. It was an attention getter especially when signing contracts.

    5:51 There is also a 144 which is also a cartridge filler, though I believe it is now called the Classique.

    Congratulations🥳🖋 very good price and beautiful pen. I'm intrigue on how you'll feel later on about the M nib that feels broader.

      That's great to hear, was it because the medium wrote too broad? Hope you enjoy the new nib!

    not to impugn your credibility, but why do you suspect that the pen is not plated with platinum? You stated that the classique is the smallest size available when it is actually the mozart so Im wondering if your research was limited. No offense intended, just curious if you got this detail wrong as well…the platinum is more expensive than the gold so Im blindly inclined to believe it’s actually platinum

      Not an expert there sorry. I would recommend you take a look at the fountainpennetwork forum. There is a Montblanc subforum there.

    Wondering if your pen had a small hole in the cap next to the clip. I purchased a 145 on ebay and mine has the hole in the cap. Thanks in Advanced.

    Actually...... Mont Blanc straddles parts of France, Italy and Switzerland. Mont Blanc's summit lies on the watershed line between the valleys of Ferret and Veny in Italy, and the valleys of Montjoie, and Arve in France. Its been disputed territory for centuries and one could argue that its border really sits mostly on the french side. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mont_Blanc I'm sure you've done your research too on the Mont Blanc brand and how it came about. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montblanc_(company)

    Does the 145 take cartridges or is it only piston-filled?

    • @lachlanlau
      @lachlanlau 9 днів тому +1

      It's a cartridge/converter, so both depending on what you install.
