No matter how down in the dumps I am. After watching Dr Mix I find myself in a much better place. Thanks for that. As for which keyboard is best, each manufacturer makes certain sounds better than anyone else. Thats why I have multiple makes. Gets expensive but Id rather have a sy7nth habit than a drug habit. Cheers Dr Mix and keep bringing the goods.

I don't know about anyone else, but I like that Rhodes more than anything. Such a great and classic sound, especially with the effects.
But as for the question posed... for me it would be Yamaha & Korg

Yamaha, Korg, Roland and others worked on midi as one - arguably the biggest single gift to us electro freaks ever - not a single sound, just data. They all deserve their credit and fame.
Will we ever see a technology leap forward as massive as that? I doubt it!
P.S. Found a gem of a track for you to work over - Lonely Boy by Andrew Gold - classic mid eighties US pop but with all sorts of polyrhythmic elements to explore.

Opsix is basically a childs toy. Use EssenceFM. Thats 300 voices. 16multimbral. An easier touch UI. Modular and on and on. Compared to Korgs laughable specs and barely more than Korgs original asking price. kodamo.org/
Modwave outspecs Hydra in places. But on the bench the UI and lack of minute detail, as well as crappy build quality. Hydra basically wrecks it. If you have the module as well - bye bye Modwave. In use the difference is vast. www.ashunsoundmachines.com/
Wavestate, ugh what a trainwreck. Again applied to the 37 key pi. You can't actually apply it all that easily sonically and the wavestation is far in excess of it and its ...old. Really old. There is something coming out that is basically similar - but ten times the power for a similar price. Can't really say what since theres embargo/NDA. Keep a look out q4 or early next year for these minor companies. Much better value and support/effort.

Also - the MASSIVE sound a flagship synth has is, well - an experience that has to be heard and even felt. They're often built for moving around a lot, built like a tank, they come with a keyboard that will last you for 25+ years with you hammering on them like you were building a house. There are some downsides, such as being expensive and MASSIVELY COMPLEX. The flagships today like Yamaha Montage + Roland Fantom is like having a ton of synthesizers in one box, but you're gonna do menu diving like no tomorrow, I have a Montage and there's literally 100's of sub-menues, imagine the 18 filters alone with their own set of sub-menues (Imagine those guitar filters everyone buys for their setup, imagine 18 of those in one box), you're gonna spend the rest of your life setting it up, it's complex - but you'll never complain about lack of sounds - ever.

Ciao Claudio! Why was that a great video? The Rhodes part! Because it was YOUR setting and setup and you mastered it. Unlike plqying a preset (any preset) and a modern flagship. I dont mean you wouldn’t master those instruments, but you can hardly explain (because is SO complicated and complex) how you get the sound. In your beatiful Rhodes Moog tandem you know ll the bits and bobs of the sound chain. YOUR chain, your sound! Keep on doing THAT kind of stuff! Thnks too for Da Da Da😂

Just touching on the questions about "Why would you buy a new synth when you can use a MIDI controller and VSTs".. These keyboards have lasted decades and sure they may need a tune up or fix messy pots. However, software gets outdated. When was the last time you used software from the 80s or 90s. Having a huge keyboard collection takes time, trust the process. Get to you know your existing gear really really well. At least for now, buy a keyboard that can load samples or better yet, create your own sounds

@@lucadipaolo1997 Exactly right. Plus it really doesn't look as authentic watching someone fiddle around with their laptop between sets. At least in my head, I'm wondering whether they're actually playing or using a backing track or MIDI.

Q: K, Y, or R? A: Yes please! People ask me why I have so many synths, and really beyond the obvious "Because it's cool!" the real answer is that each brings something new, even if it's just a learning experience. Even if I wind up not using something much, I've learned that and learned something about my music style.

5:50 The question of the workstations vs computers and vst’s. I like the computer, keyboard and vst’s for pretty much instantaneous plug and play. Mainly noodling around with an iRig keys Pro. My Kronos workstation is something I mess with if I want better sound as it blows my computer out of the water, sound wise, but it does take a bit of time to boot up. (20-30 seconds as I have extra banks that need to load as well.) Just need my Bose Companion 20 speakers and I’m good to go.
That question of “only one synth” had me thinking of my Kronos (yes, I like the dang thing) then you mentioned the Modx being light. Definitely got me there as my 61 key Kronos is not a light unit. (31lbs/14kg) The 88 key one is 53 lbs (24kg) Got the Gator hard and soft cases for it and I like them.

Nice that you have the complete trinity of digital synthesizers. DX7, D-50, and M1. Nice Rhoades too.
What do your think about Kool & The Gang's "Summer Madness" on the Rhoades?
Thanks for the information and entertainment.
