  • In January 2010, Brigadier General Itzik Kreiss led the IDF delegation that joined the global effort in assisting Haiti’s earthquake victims. Almost five years later, in September 2014, he spoke of his experiences at the TedMedLive conference in Jerusalem. Watch him share stories of hope, dedication, leadership and medicine.

Israel is the world's best first responder to natural disasters around the globe. Don't boycott the one country that will save your life when you need it most.

Incredible!!! Israel and the IDF do amazing things around the world and I wish more people would hear about it. It's frustrating how quickly people forget about all of the great things. But still, Kol Hakavod!

An astounding insight into the organisational and humanitarian greatness of the IDF.
From a leadership perspective, Brigadier General Kreiss demonstrates what can be achieved with disparate parties if they subscribe to a singular goal. Inspiring talk.

I'm at odds after watching this.
I've always thought the United States was one of the best nation in assisting in relief aid and disaster assistance.
Not I'm wondering if it's still true after watching this.

Tien there is no need to feel conflicted. Whatever there is natural disaster or calamity you will find the United States providing assistance and medical aid . You will also find our natural long-term allies like the nation of Israel . Rather than see it as a contest between who can provide more aid I suggest you take a different perspective. That people who are free and of good conscience understand their need to provide help to those who are less fortunate and it is that reason you will find American and Israeli cooperation on the highest levels in these instances.
only the United States is capable of providing massive scale aid that no other country can match. The physician in this TEDTalk which is inspiring explains that their hospital had three operating rooms and I believe 70 or 80 beds .
Arguably it can be said for the size of Israel they provide a disproportionate amount of humanitarian aid to be sure.
United States to give you some comparison to the 70 or 80 bed hospital with three operating rooms that Israel was able to provide sailed to Haiti with a hospital ship .
United States Navy maintains three hospital ships they are to give you some perspective in terms of priorities and capabilities the equivalent each ship of a 1000 bed hospital generally containing a dozen or more operating rooms with full CT scanning and MRI capability as well as specialized intensive care like burn units and pediatric facilities as well as dental clinics & surgical suites.
as I said they're capable of providing a mobile 1,000 bed hospital anywhere in the world. to give you an idea of that size of hospital that is the equivalent of a VERY large medical center in any major urban area of the country New York Los Angeles San Francisco etc.
the three hospital ships the Navy operates are unique in that they carried NO offensive weapons ONLY defensive weapons.
To give you an idea of the size of the ships -- they are the second largest ships in operation by the United States Navy.
The ONLY thing larger are the Nimitz class nuclear aircraft carriers.
Again rather than seeing competition between nations and who provides more I suggest you see the big picture and that is civilized societies provide humanitarian aid and feel it is an obligation . You will have to check this as I recall to the earthquake being discussed China sent approximately 80 or hundred physicians in Russia sent about 75 if I recall .
Again I'm not entirely sure the numbers but that is what I believe I recall hearing and Should clearly indicate the difference I suggested above. China and Russia both are capable of providing far more than what they did . Again relative to the size of the nation of Israel Israel does a remarkable job .
Israel and other civilized societies also in times of war treat injured enemy combatants the same vigor as our own soldiers . If you have never seen American forces in Afghanistan or Iraq in mobile hospital work furiously to save a life of an Islamist who just blew up 10 American soldiers it will give you new meaning when I talk about the ethics and obligations of a civilized society.
God bless the United States of America and the nation of Israel.

      John Gaudino wow.
You got a lot on your mind and express it.
I have seen the mash units in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other mobile hospitals around the world.
And I have seen the video about the suicide bomber being saved after he detonated his device.
It takes a special person to save lives within a world of questions.
      Peace to you.

@@johngaudinotube One more point - the speed of reaction time. All know that first responders get the full burden of the calamity. Israel, because of our "mentality of national alert", as Brigadier General Itzik Kreiss, pointed out was and often is the first to arrive on the scene.
