    Awesome job with the video! Florida is home to 735 springs to put on your bucket list. I have personally visited over 100 and it just makes one want to find more to enjoy. FYI Google maps has most locations.

    I agree that Madison Blue Springs is a great one! I live in Madison, so we often go there regularly. :)

      Love it! It's a great stop off for a swim when we are traveling through the area. I'd love to do a long paddle on the Withlacoochee sometime.

      How busy is the Ichetucknee after the colleges go back to school. I used to go there a lot as a kid. Noticed now that they only allow 700 people onto the river. I suspect this is through the summer. Could not find anything about this after summers. I want to go mid week to get the best possibility of quite time on the river and not 700 others on the river.

      It's pretty chill in the off season. The kids are back in school (or will be soon depending on county/school). Now is the time!

      That is my thinking too. Going to try to kayak it later this month of Sept for sure. Been a very long time since I have done that river. Tks

      I was just there this Friday during the off-season. Arrived around noon, and we were the only ones. Then again, we got poured on by rain about 35 minutes down stream.

    The sad part is that everyone that goes to these places also puts on Sunscreen/Suntan lotion. These products have chemicals that affect the water in a negative way. You should mention that in your videos! People should NOT put on these things when getting into the water!!!

    • @ricpowers1475
      @ricpowers1475 6 років тому +7

      Cesar E Quevedo c'mon cesar....these springs are in very good shape, pristine, well managed and crystal clear. Whatever sunscreen u have on is negligible sense the springs are renewed at the rate of millions of gallons an hour.

    • @curtiswhitwam1
      @curtiswhitwam1  6 років тому +5

      It is true that most sunblocks have chemicals on them that is harmful to aquatic life. Good point.

      Maybe I'm overzealous about this, but I like how in other countries they think of "everything"...unlike here. That's sad...considering this is supposed to be ad advanced nation. That's all!

    • @ricpowers1475
      @ricpowers1475 5 років тому +3

      The springs stay pristine because they are constantly changing with new flow daily..for example, Rainbow springs dumps over 100 million gallons a day into the gulf and receiving the same amount via the aquifer. All new, each and every day, every spring in florida.

    • @ricpowers1475
      @ricpowers1475 5 років тому +3

      @@macawlf Whew! What springs are you going to? Rainbow Springs has never been cleaner because of very strict rules on what can be brought in. I live in Dunnelon and have watched the springs become much better versus even 15 years ago. Still teeming with life and brilliant colors. Could it be your mask is foggy that everything is so drab?

    All of the Suwannee area springs were blacked out when we were there in April.

      +James Smith, The Quiet Hiker oh man. That's a bummer. The river fluctuates massively and this happens a lot unfortunately. We lucked out in November with the river levels.

      Yeah, we've tried twice and have met the flooding Suwannee both times, all of the springs gone dark.

    what about gators?…I live in south Florida and they are EVERYWHERE, even in small lakes and canals in residential areas

    • @curtiswhitwam1
      @curtiswhitwam1  6 років тому +2

      There are gators in the springs occasionally. The water is generally very clear so we always have a really good look around before entering the water.
      Also, since many of these place can get crowded with swimmers, the gators will generally (not always) stay away.

    • @nickm4854
      @nickm4854 6 років тому

      If you see a gator in a Florida spring, it's likely very Young and lost, and leaving lol. The water in the springs (72°f. Year round) is much colder than surrounding rivers and lakes, Cold blooded tropical reptiles move very slowly at that temp. and can not live long enough to take up residence in a spring area.

    We want to visit Florida in June to check out the springs. Is there a good one to see some manatees that time of year? Or do they only come to the springs in the winter?

    • @curtiswhitwam1
      @curtiswhitwam1  5 років тому

      Winter is really the best time to guarantee seeing manatees because they congregate in the springs and other warm water sources. During the summer they are more dispersed. Although Kings Bay in Crystal River there will be Manatee sightings in summer. You can go with a tour boat.
