As someone with 20 years of hardcore substance abuse I've finally seeked out help, therapy and came out to my family about needing help/genuinely wanting to stop for the first time. Almost 2 weeks clean now which is huge for me. Thanks for sharing this 🤙great convo!
@@OneCommune I appreciate it my homie. I was doin coke and speed at age 14 graduated to heavy opiates. Been clean of the hard stuff for years but i had been struggling really hard with the bottle and kratom the last few years. It feels good to feel more normal. Only stuff i take is caffeine and kava nowadays and im feeling so much better already. I feel much more accountable having spoken up and being dead serious about my addiction. Ive been arrested, gotten a dui, been in fights, been a borderline abusive jerk...enough is enough. Im nice and very productive normally until the bottle touched my lips.
Being someone who is battling with addiction and relapse and witnessing the difficulty first hand at accessing the appropriate help, this man just naturally connects with fellow addicts and non addicts alike. actually feel like i can do this. Russel is a Legend!
Well said Ben. I’m in the same battle with you bro. We’ll overcome this. How’s your addiction going these days? Mine is still pretty intense, lots of relapsing.
I have struggled with addiction since poppas passing. Thank god for for the heroes like Russell Brand, Lynsey Lohan, Robert Downey Junior, George Carlin, Matthew Perry, Robin Williams, Dr. Mate and others that have helped me along the way.
I’ll have a year on March 25th. I’ve lost so many good, good friends to addiction! I feel like I’ve made it out somewhat intact. I’ve taken the steps, made use of therapy, and immersed myself in a fellowship of recovery. I live in a recovery house (Oxford-there’s probably one near you). I’m learning how to live without shame. I just hope that you never ever give up on yourself, that you never stop trying. We can make it through this day
The two of you are beautiful together. It's also interesting to me to see that when speaking with Jeff, who speaks slowly and calmly, Russell appears to speak in a manner that is slower and calmer than his usual self. This is actually wonderful for those listening to the conversation because Russell is a brilliant man with with incredible knowledge and facility of expression, but not everyone can process the information as quickly as he delivers it. And some of the information can therefore be missed on the part of the listeners. I don't know if Russell is making a conscious effort to speak calmly and more slowly but I can definitely say that when speaking with Jeff, this side of Russell comes out. Thank you both for your wonderful work and God bless! You are both beautiful in all possible ways!
I washed it down the sink today and found this podcast . This is my choice I’m making it and sticking with it . With that I’ll succeed in all the things I want physical, spiritual and mentally
I never thought I'd like so much coming from Russell Brand! Just finished watching both part 1 & 2 after a friend in AA recommended them and I'm about to watch another RB video!
I just woke up this morning (shall I just leave it there?) and thought, my life is fucked and is damaging, not only to me but those around me through addiction and unfulfilling activities. A lot of what that Russell Brand character guy says really resonates with me. I was a good person once, and can be again maybe? I'll watch some of his stuff as he's clearly spent a lot of time experiencing similar shit to me. Well, here I am and thanks. I think I might try and enlighten myself. I'm not at all academic but I understood every word of this conversation, and all of it makes sense.
Jordan peterson has some great videos on getting your life together. His appearances on joe rogan's podcast helped me a lot- maybe give them a listen if you haven't heard of him
Greg Smith it’s impossible to get clean alone. As Russell has said previously, his best thinking got him to the state of rock bottom. Drug taking is a symptom of a spiritual malady. The 12 step programme offers a solution and the fellowship of NA or AA offers a wealth of support and guidance on tap, all free. I wish you well 🙏❣️
Russell what a beautiful articulate soul you are. Thank you for being here in the most passionate, graceful and honest way. You are such an inspiration. Love you. 💗🙏
Just keep studying NA, self help, psychology maybe. People that have been there basically and know what the feck there on about. Its that important mate, you either get with this and look for another way to do things, or keep looking at things that will kill you, or just as bad take everything you own from you and show you absolute hell on earth with no joy around anywhere.❤
@@smokey3570 Did you get help ? Its the first step, even if its a maintanance chemical help. There's no shame, use the time to form a plan. The human body is amazing, it will heal and joy can return. But when your grateful for joy and been able to smile again its so much better.
What little gems are here, listening to my mate Russell or at least he feels like my mate because he talks so honestly and openly and that is something which seems to be hard to find in everyday interactions sometimes.
Sitting down with people who have lived experience as been a life changing for us on our channel. Addiction is tough, but I believe we need to do better as a community and ensure that we defeat stigma, as well as support people so that less and less people turn to addiction.
It was the best thing I ever did was to receive treatment from addiction did AA and NA went to detox twice and rehab for 3 months and now I'm a year sobriety
Thank u Russell, ur amazing and I 100% support your views... Love you for just being u and speaking ur views which I believe are totally the truth. God bless u xxx
@16:40 The interviewer Jeff made an EXCELLENT point about applying the 12 steps to a country and using step 5 to be accountable for the harm caused by that country. Brilliant! Unfortunately, I think Russell missed the opportunity to explore what he brought up, and instead went on an adjacent point for whatever reason. I was truly surprised because I really admire and agree with 95% of what Russell says. Oh well, at least Jeff brought it up. If you read this comment, please consider your country's need for atonement in order to truly resolve the spiritual/emotional/psychological issues it has that are probably the symptoms of not addressing those imperialist/colonial/capitalist wounds.
Everything what you say comes so much to the essenz of the cause, the emotions the feelings the experience, the vision to free ourselves from this addiction,is so close so near, i am working still a little on the cigarettes, but meditation Prayer, Kundalini help a lot.Thank you so much. ❤🔥
I am going to rehab in an hour. Been planning for about 2-3 weeks. Doing it for myself first and foremost, but my family as well. I am terrified. Wish me luck.
The caveat (asterisk) with these kind, wise and generous videos, is that most people who suffer from addiction aren't rich, handsome, charismatic celebrities who can start on the road to recovery by spending three months in a luxury rehabilitation facility receiving daily therapy and quietly contemplating their beautiful surroundings like Thoreau at Waldon pond.
Thank you Russell Brand. 4 days completely clean and sober since about 10 years old. I am 69. In a wonderful 24/7 AA women's group with women all of the world. Have a great sponsor who I promised I would push a peanut up a hill with my nose if she asked me too. Meant that. Call her every day and we are working the steps. I, of course, still love your politics, your meditations, well everything about you. We are very similar in many ways. I have been famous for a minute, on the front page, and of course not for good behavior. Ha! Respect you, adore you. I'm a lesbian, have no teeth etc. but would shamefully throw myself at you if I close enough to it. Thank you for e3verything!
He mentions 12 step programmes constantly. The core tennet of these programmes lies in that all actions are undertaken in the spirit of anonymity, principles over personality.
He is a Handsome Man, Smart just Amazing 😻 I wish they made duplicates of him in a “Gay model” can you imagine having a lover like him, Mind-blowing🤯 and he is Spiritual too😇
