  • The first video with the Jaguar XJ6, it has been sat in the garage for nearly 5 years, so with all the good weather, we decided to see if we could get it running. Part 1 of 2.

    This is very interesting & informative
    These are the realities of owning an old Jag.BUT you said it urself - essentially the average person can work on this themselves.
    The SU carby is one of the simplest
    & you know they are becoming collectors pieces. Tje engines are bullet proof
    Thanks for showing the steps 👍

      Absolutely the joy of old cars is that all the information is available and essentially anyone with enough patience can learn about and work on them.

      @@jonwattracing2455 the manuals are proper drivers cars , that to say there's nothing wrong with auto's but the manual makes good use of the power out the 4.2 engine , much quicker , as well as being a rare beast

    Don't knock the BL build quality, it's survived over forty years!
    As for corrosion, someone's already bogged it that's not going to stop the any rust.
    My seventeen year old son just bought a 75 XJ6 L. Waterblasted the engine and started first try afterwards.

      I believe the car is original, and the corrosion is just a result of age, misuse (when younger I used the car in all weathers, salt/snow etc.), and a lack of protection as they left lots of unpainted bare metal inside certain box sections. The sills for example are one giant hollow tube, that from the factory is unpainted, so it fills up with road grime and water, and then rots out.

      @@jonwattracing2455 Unfortunately a lot of manufacturers had a policy if you couldn't see it, don't paint it. Assume they did dip the bodies though at least?

    Great video.....considering that I am resurrecting my new barn find - a 1982 XJ6 that sat in a building for 20 years. Was interesting to see all the green stuff coming out of the gas tank. That confirms the need for my plan to flush the entire fuel system from gas tanks to cylinders and make sure it's all cleaned out. Did you ever find the gas tank plug in the grass?

    • @jonwattracing2455
      @jonwattracing2455  3 роки тому

      yes definitely need to flush the fuel system. Petrol goes bad surprisingly quickly and is horrible stuff once it does. Nope that plug is lost forever!

      @@jonwattracing2455 I can't tell you how often I regret selling my first car (911e) It Makes me sick, especially considering I paid $1500 back then and it's worth north of $80k today. Don't make my mistake. ;)

      @@simontogo Ouch, I can't imagine the pain. Fortunately and unfortunately I don't think Jaguar XJ's will ever reach those kinds of prices.
