Good overview of the problem and outline of the symptoms. My 6th grade son is very much struggling in all of these areas. We are going to start the journey of couching and life skills to help him out. We will start by showing him this video and opening up the dialogue.
I happened to find this video in written form, and it's probably the BEST description I have ever found to explain EFD to those who don't understand, and how they can help. I emailed it to my son's teachers and his support staff. We obviously aren't In the classroom because of Covid-19, it still helps them help him, and any other child with EFD they come across.
Seriously...when we updated my son's IEP for this year (5th grade), I had to bite my lip when the words "I'm not sure that I've heard of executive function disorder" came out of the new intervention specialist's mouth! She was kind of iffy on 2e too. 🤦 The rest of the staff had been too, so I threw together my own hodgepodge packet of EFD/2E information that I insisted must go with my son's IEP. Now, finding you, I have better information I can use for my own amazing kid , but also share with his school so they can faster recognize and help the next kid that's unique..especially if it's a child whose parents may not be involved like we are.
This is my ADHD daughter in a nutshell. The resistance is real and she works hard at it! But it does help to understand what is going on in her brain so we can try and help her. Thank you!
YOU ARE FREAKIN AWESOME!!!!!! Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help you spread awareness to Executive Functioning issues in kids/or anything ADHD related!!! I make cartoons!!! -ell
Thank you a million times! I have handled this wrongly and found that handling it compasionately definitely bears much more fruit. Your explanation helps to understand it even better. How do you make the distinction between executive function problems and pathological demand avoidance? Please help. My daughter of 19 years is on the spectrum and I believe not living up to her potential.
I have a17-year-old (summer born, comorbid dyslexia and ADHD) who is about to bomb his A levels in physics, maths and biology (I’m an American living in the UK - we’re all dual nationals). I teach special needs kids in an international school and I have developed my own executive function toolkit - but he won’t listen to me. He seems to have been working hard, and we know he’s smart, but he cannot motivate himself to crack the ALevel code. Everything rides on exam results. I don’t know what to do.
How does this video resonate with YOU?
It accurately describes Samuel's struggles every moment of everyday. Thanks for distilling it down.
Thank you for teaching my mom to stop harassing me

Love your videos, Seth! Thanks so much for coaching us to better help our kids.
You are welcome!
Thanks so much for this! I'm so guilty of shaming but I had not thought about the under development of his brain. Now I know better.

Hi, thanks, I couldn't agree more. Do you have suggestions on "the resistance?"
Thank you!
Do you have a video that explains executive function to the kid themselves?
