She's smart as a whip, very insightful & able to read people well. Apparently NOT an extreme baker. Good to see there's something at which she doesn't excel.
Victoria's idea of using salt in her cake is a decent one but she used WAY too much. A standard sweet cake with kosher salt sprinkled over the top would have tasted much better.
Her things were works of art. They were different, not just the same sweet pastries. She followed the theme. It's the ocean, it 's supposed to be salty ! If someone makes a bittersweet cake, you can't ding them for it being bittersweet. She should have won and it's sad that she did not.
I have a bit of a crush over Victoria, because she has such an enigmatic smile that I see when she is on TV shows like WILTY for example, and the first time I have seen her on this bakery show with the full smile and laugh. If ypu peel the onions under running water and do the first cut in half, it drastically reduces the spray of fine onion particles that cause you to cry. Barely ever a tear and we use onions almost every meal.
I think I may be a bit like David Mitchell. I'm not too bothered about what my food looks like or what the ingredients are, so long as it tastes good. Believe me, my attempts to bake have produced some horrors. 👍👍👍🤣🤣🤣
Victoria, you don’t need sunglasses and you don’t need to “chop onions underwater”…which sounds borderline impossible! Just peel then top & tail the onion or shallot and then run it under a cold tap for a minute and ta-da your eyes (um…or at least my eyes) will run again and you won’t run the risk of oniony fingers near your eyes as you fumble with goggles or glasses…honest, guv!!!
so then it's confirmed, she's just slightly mad enough to be married to a comic or else it would have been a very messy divorce, she's the perfect foil to David. a bit more refined but able to hold her own with the Funny. lucky catch that man, he must be very good.
Chefs tip: it's easier to just rinse them under the water and cut with a wet knife. The vapour that causes your eyes to leak is attracted to water (which is why it affects your eyes).
Or just wear contact lenses. I wear contact lenses every day, I was so surprised when once I wore just glasses and I started crying when cutting onions. I am so used to the fact that I don´t feel it.
Idk if I'm weird or something, but I have never had a problem with cutting onions. I was really confused the first time I cut one and had no reaction like people said I would lol

The thing I love about VCM is that she's not afraid to Go There. Vodka in a muffin? Salty cake? She's your girl!
