The thing is see with the Ducati is the lack of mudguard in front of the radiator and noting covering the rear shock. These will be blasted by mud/dirt/water. I have the SMCR and KTM has them covered, the mudguards do their job.
I completely agree. All the ducati's even their adventure model desertx, radiator guard has to be added on. Hypermotard 698, just like the other Ducati models will be no exception. SMCR comes with in built radiator guard. But inthe grand schema of things you want to add, radiator guard might be the least expensive.
Lovely bike and I have my order in but I might cancel it as I’ve seen the spec and definitely prefer my 701, more torque , lighter and with mods same top end power, with much less cost! I’ll test ride one first to be sure then make my mind up. But either way these super motos are phenomenal and leave superbikes for dead in the twistiest!
Great to hear that you ordered one already. KTM/husky have more torque and make the power early in rev range it's a little lighter and with similar mods on hyper, I think it will make similar top end power too. On the cost part KTM/husky will have an advantage. Definitely will have to ride both before making a decision...super mottos definitely comes on top on twisties and are more fun and for sure will bring out the hooligan in you...
KTM has perfected single cylinder engine over the past may years and this single cylinder engine of Ducati has some of the design cues from KTM..its a Ducati.. it may take a little while to iron out the initial issues.. but couple of weeks ago, Ducati announced that they are getting into motorcross too.. it has to be this engine. So there is a lot of hope from the company in this very engine.. it cannot fail, I think.
😎🇺🇲👍 The KTM has a history with this motor. The aftermarket is there. Maintenance is super easy for the home mechanic. Would take a few years to work out the bugs on the Ducati. There's always teething issues with a new model. I agree for the fact that KTM with tried and tested engine will have an upper hand compared to hyper 698. I also agree for the fact the new models will have issues and will take couple of years to overcome. If you are having those models in your collection that sounds like a dream garage.
@@scoopingjoy I do currently have all those bikes. The ZRX is stock and ZX 11 are spotless. The ZX 11 still has all the factory warning stickers. The GSX-R and ZX are one owners. I am planning to reduce the lineup a bit. Would like to do a few more projects and need a little space. There's videos of some of the progress. Cheers ✌️
@@franktaylor7617 yours is a dream garage. You have good taste in bikes and have an enviable collection which some of us can only dream of...way to go man.
@@scoopingjoy Thanks. The 500 two stroke is the most interesting. Very few if any have been completed. There's a video of it running after a long storage. It's a very unique piece. All of it is done on a budget. I work a regular job and save. Or I stumble across a really good deal and work my magic to bring the project to a presentable condition. I like unusual things. My first brand new bike was a Honda RC 30 many years ago. #236 of 300.👍
@@franktaylor7617 Very cool. I checked out your videos.. Seems like you have secret room with more motorcycles on the other side of garage ! A video of these beauties on the road will be nice.
The torque figures are not really close. KTM has much more torque and pull. And I don't understand how the Ducati has Light weight frame, wheels, Titanium, Magnesium, lithium battery, smaller tank... And it's still heavier than the KTM. ???
I agree. Though the numbers tend to speak for itself, how will the motorcycle let you feel in person is something different. What causes Ducati to weigh more despite using light weight materials is still a mystery. Regardless, I think all of us are looking forward to get our hands on one.
Good review thanks. It looks like Ducati have almost based their new 698 model on the KTM, what does that tell you? Just be a good bike, I sat on both at the bike show last week at the NEC in the UK, the Ducati looks better equipped and less ’plasticky’ but at a high.
I am glad that you were able see the bike in flesh/metal/plastic. KTM has bare minimum every thing and Ducati is being Ducati to give more than what you really need....

nice review...still having fun with my KTM
Have not bought one yet. Buy will definitely do..Ducati is an eye candy, KTM wins price wise...but the wheelie assist on 698...
Fantastic video good job🎉

This Ducati is very interesting.
However, I am worried that it is a single plug.
