Well, you compared the RVE version (which is 22% more expensive) to the stock KTM in the EU where I live. The stock Ducati is still 10% more expensive, heavier despite the cast wheels (KTM cast wheel conversions are 2-3kg lighter), has 10% less torque, and QS must be bought as an accessory (wtf?). Everyone expected a much lighter, more powerful and better looking bike, including myself... There is very little meat on the bone (apart from electronic aids and display) for the SM crowd to jump brand without any financial incentive. The USA prices you stated are wrong as well: Ducati USA lists the RVE at 14.495 USD, KTM USA list the 690 at 12.999 USD...
I fully agree with OP. The KTM has more torque, and both its peak hp and peak torque are in lower rpm's, where you want it. The KTM can be converted to a dual sport, and it can take a beating. The ducati is beautiful, but too fragile and feminine for true supermoto behavior. The only thing it really does better is electronics. The KTM also has the fuel tank in the back so it will turn in better both on/off road. The KTM also has way more luggage and adventure parts available. It's honestly a no brainer once you look at the facts.
@@kyleg8928 I've owned a 701 for 2.5 years, It's my favorite bike compared to my 1290 Super duke & 765 RS....But I've tried the 698 several times now & for road riding the chassis is much easier & accurate through the bends. The Ktm/Husky sm were developed from the enduro version while the 698 was developed for the road. I think it's the better bike for road riding. Physics is not subjective.
I'm sorry but that Ducati is not a real supermoto. It's a naked bike dressed up as supermoto. Can't touch the KTM.. You can toss some dirt tires on that KTM and eat up trails.
Which is exactly what the Dorsoduro is / was to Aprilia...not a supermoto. Aprilia called it a "multi moto." if you put the Mono and the Dorsoduro side by side, looks like plagiarism on Ducati's part. They made a single cylinder Aprilia Dorsoduro.
i dare say that very few people care about fuel economy on a sumo, sure on adv's where you eat up miles after miles but not on a sumo. Also it's the manufacturers claims so not verified, could be that they have the same MPGs in reality, not like they're super precise with MPG figures, goes for both obviously
Ducati have form in this area. I read a mag shootout with the v4 multistrada and super adventure S. The ducati consistently used 50% more fuel (😮) than the ktm on the big trip they did.
Also this the first year for the Ducati and i would like to see the comparison once the Ducati has a few years on it, first years usually have bugs to iron out.
To be fair, its a tad difficult to compare suspension of an RVE vs. KTM that doesnt have an upper trim level. The cost structure for 698 RVE is about $2,000 (USD) more in the US and at least KTM comes standard with QS. Aftermarket tach / temp can be added to the KTM for a nominal cost, but id agree that Ducati is premium compared to KTM, but you pay for it, just like anything else
The Ducati has the glamour, and modernity. KTM will be hitting back hard, to take back the throne, with better display, and better electronics. But now may be the time to get a good deal on the KTM as is today. It was always over priced. I would buy one for 9000 to 10,000 Euro, new, zero km. Ducati have upped the game, and introduced, much needed, competition in this genre of bike. I am supprised the Japanese, or Chinese, have not tapped into this market. Special note to Suzuki to produce a supermoto on the lines of the DRZ400SM, using a 650 cc single.
This video is highly biased. The KTM has more torque and faster in a drag race. I've compared it with my buddy's Ducati and even swapped riders because we weigh different and the KTM won every time. The drag race was not even fair. Neither of the bikes were at the powerband and you need a stand still or at least 10 mph rolling start. The KTM also can cruise better on the highway because of the extra torque and longer 6th gear. The KTM also has tons of powerparts and aftermarket support.
The Ducati is easier and more refined than the KTM, to a point that the Ducati feels more like a beginners bike relative to the KTM which is more aggressive and a beast. Except for vibrations, less on the Ducati, the Ducati is a disappointment regarding its engine, significantly weaker than the KTM (not surprising: less displacement, shorter stroke).
Similar review to mine and Hypermotard king. Real world riding puts them on par. I weight a lot more than Kal 😁 so our 3rd 4th gear pulls were a little bias to the Ducati. But after swapping bikes they seemed the same. I agree with some of the comments regarding the Ducati being softer. It has a better screen, more rider aids BUT supermoto isn’t about all the gizmos. I liked the Mono but I prefer my 690 smc r.
The Duc is too expensive for what it is. If it actually was say 15kg lighter then I would have been willing to shill out for that bike at that price tag.
why dont you come and film 5 takes in 2 foreign languages one after the other for a total of 10 takes who sometimes have to be repeated without ever committing a mistake oh and make sure to know all the specific terms and dont you dare make mistakes or make it seem like youre not a native otherwise people like you will comment and complain.
And there was me about to thank and congratulate you on your presentation and the fact that you were doing it in a language which is not your native tongue…… You can’t please all the people all of the time!
@@K777John There are so many good English speaking UA-cam channels now so why would you want to try and compete with them when you cannot put a sentence together correctly. Germany is the biggest and strongest country in the EU, its basically the father of the EU.. and somehow they really suck at speaking english. It boggled my mind also when i visited there 😅
I feel like the point of a Supermoto is to be playful droppable and durable. neither of these overpriced bikes allow you to really have fun without worrying about breaking it.
KTM quikshifter is shit + you can steal it much easier (start it just cut the ignition wires put them together and off you go). Aaaand the KTM dial/gauge is like from old calculator. Lets not even talk about the electronics... Ducati is clear winner.
Lol, usually people claim, that we as Austrians are sponsored by KTM. No matter how it goes, apparently we are all paid. Would be nice to finally receive all those $$$. Cheers, McGregor
Ktm made in China , no doubt the Ducati will be quality bike unlike the other . Suspension is always a question mark the WP gear , unless its another ktm advert revue who never mention the issues of these bikes . Fan Boy is a penciled term that originated to label ktm defenders . They use it now like its generic . Ktm things is another one :)
A spec racing series with these two together would be fun to watch!

Can I get the RVE options with the regular color way? I think those graphics are corny
you can get the quickshifter on the non RVE model yes. I'd personally go for the standard version with the added QS as well.
Take 2 minutes next time to check the prices of the bikes instead of misleading people to think that both bikes cost the same...

The Ducati's chassis much better.

Great bike.. I’ve ordered the standard one as its already expensive - hopefully i’ll get to review against my friends 690
good choice!
Great review , thank you 🙏🏼, going for the Ducati after this
its pretty , but ill keep my ktm ... parts / aftermarket are available and cheaper
(till someone cracks the duc ecu anyway)
aftermarket availability is a valid reason for the KTM
The HM698 tops my personal wishlist at the moment.
20% fuel economy difference is not small, it just isn't.

i have a 690 with 36 000kms and for me fuel economy is something for sure i care. And to do 4.1L/100 is riding slow, normally mine does 5~5.5 .

Ducati should do dual sport 21' - 18' wheels, and also rally fairing wersion. Probably will be best selling bikes of the decade.
