In Rajahmundry my ammamma used to dry roast the toordal. No oil. Then little curry leaves red chillies and urud dall a bit. Half of this used to keep for garnish and the other half grinded with toordall with tamarind salt and inguva . Urudall is for the crunch. If you want you can add 3 flakes of garlic when grinding. Awesome with hot rice and ghee.
