Why do so many people have a negative view of West Virginia? I was born there and have lived there or across the river in Ohio all my life. It's a wonderful state!

Shhhh... let the rest of the country be ignorant of just how wonderful West Virginia is. Otherwise everybody will want to move there and screw it up, much like they've done to Atlanta. Coming from someone born in WV and has lived much of his life in Georgia, California, and Arkansas, but is looking to return and retire in WV someday.

Because they all stereotype the beatuaiful state. It's awesome. I lived near Huntington and literally it was like the Appalachian moutains were in my backyard.

One of the reasons why West Virginia has a negative reputation is because of the crushing poverty of its most mountainous rural areas. Many people think of West Virginia as a third world backwater but they fail to acknowledge the state's many beautiful and positive features like the gorgeous mountains, fast flowing rivers, friendly down to earth people, picturesque historic towns, and the overall serenity of this most maligned of US states. They just look at the negatives. You can thank the news media as well for giving everyone a negative impression of wild wonderful and friendly West Virginia.

michael haiden We are use to being last in everything. But, West Virginia per capita is #1 in military service to our Nation. I did 24 years in the USMC.
I protected you, so you could have the freedom of speech to slam my beautiful state, West Virginia Semper Fi

West Virginia is a very very beautiful state the only problem is poor infrastructure. I was born and raised there but we moved to Florida because theres not many thing to do in WV. We needed more opportunities for the family.

      Mr President
Not true. I've lived and worked here my entire life. The cost of living is low and the land is interesting. I find plenty to do but I don't expect others to entertain me 24/7.
I HAVE seen idiots walk away from good jobs so they could sit at home and do drugs but that's on them. Industrious people will live well here. If you can't find work in the area this video was shot...you just don't want to work.

Powerhouse, Heavy Rain, Quint, Skiffle, The Beloved, Sounds of Defiance, The Esquires, etc......so many incredible bands came out of this city. These groups had much else to do besides rehearse and get better and better. If some of those record companies looking for talent ever had tapped Charleston, WV, they would have made a fortune with these bands!

I miss this city. I moved back to Illinois in 2009 and still remember these roads so well. I lived 20 minutes out of Charleston. Compared to St.Louis, it's a small city. I miss it though. Less people and they're a lot nicer too. Thanks for the video to refresh my memory.

Charleston's more like 100,000, I think, plus another 60,000 or so in Putnam County in the sections like Poca, Winfield, so on. I know it sprawls and it's pretty much a narrow strip of city down the river with a bunch of hills and little towns all around, pretty much like the rest of the state. It's still a beautiful drive through. Love the video.

It's a good idea to feed outdoor cats and stray ones. Give them food and water. People feed the birds. They should feed cats. Care for them and their survival. Also provide them a shelter, in the weather. Cat shelters. It is amazing people show compassion to stray dogs, birds, squirrels, but not dear cats. Outdoor cats deserve our help. With some food water and attention, their lives can be saved
