No one ever gets the theme or premise of this Ep, it's not about "soul Food," it's about how greedy tycoons (corporations) will infest good neighborhood with drugs & crimes to destroy its economy so real estate price can drop. The guy wanted to buy the park but it was too expensive, so he used Grandad to destroy the neighborhood so he can buy the park cheaper.
Its about both. If the soul food wasn't destructive, then Wuncler's plan would never have worked (Although it's basically the same as every other type of junk food, where people have to learn how to moderate themselves and not constantly gorge on it)
After watching this episode, I asked my parents if they've heard of chitlin, and they said yes and they've eaten it, my mom saying she and her sister ate a lot of it when they were kids.
Ed Asner plays Mr Wunsler. Google him he's another famous actor McGruter was able to pull for the show. You need to Google the cast. Everyone was famous.
My favorite line from all the seasons from the entire show is grandad telling the grand kids; "I went and spent your entire inheritance on this big nice house. Now at least you can do is act like you have some class."
Soul Food deserves some credit. When the kid came to his aunt Terri’s house, they ate salad. They also got their vegetables from their big garden. That movie was about preserving our culture, not allowing our traditions or values to die when our elders die. Food is at the center of the culture. Them depicting Big Mama’s death from type 2 diabetes complications emphasizes the need to make healthy compromises like Huey does at the end of this episode.
'the white man brain just focused on more important things, like runnin the world and spaceships' 😂😂these lines are so beautifully written also 'im a lawyer! we dont help people!' lmfaooo
17:17 well only partially true & ppl throughout most of history either ate a lot more of the animal and/or used certain parts to make non-edible things like the tallow being used to make candles which goes back to the BC epoch. Yeah the "master" wouldnt have eaten some of it but of course wouldnt have been either poor or from the south most of the time. What the slaves ate were the same things the poor white folks ate. Chitlins were pretty much a staple food of peasants in medieval England long before any British, European or African ever set foot in the Americas. People in most parts of the globe used innards, things like the stomach & intestines to make things like sausage & haggis. Think the first actual written accounts of haggis recipes in England go back to the 1300s but thats just by English written record, the Scottish had been eating it prior to that. Same with things like pozole & menudo going back to the Mesoamerican period in Mexico. Even though that starts a whole different way with the Aztecs & some of their rituals. But it definately was never just "slave food". Throughout most of history it was just food & as above slaves werent/havnt ever been the only ppl to eat it so applying it to "culture" or "heritage" is rediculous & as with many things ppl try to apply to "heritage" or "culture" nowdays just proves you dont know jack💩about history to call it that. Same with when some sjws were trying to call out Eminem for wearing a Matador outfit in a video, those dummies were trying to say it was "cultural appropriation" & "he isnt Mexican" lol well yeah & neither was that Matador outfit. Matadors originated in Spain where bull fighting originated from not Mexico. Mexicans did adopt that practice & continue their usage but he wasnt "appropriating" anything from Mexico. Now the D4 guys in the same video who were dressed like a Mariachi band who none of those sjws said jack💩 about were the ones wearing a clothing type that originated in Mexico, because Mariachi bands do originate from Mexico. But didnt see anything said about them & "cultural appropriation" smh. To even use that phrase just tells everyone that you dont know jack💩 about actual history
I appreciate the Boondocks social commentary themes so much. Can show this episode to an ecomonics college classroom to perfectly explain how gentrification works. That is just one of the core themes here. Genius combination of humor and real world issues

Johnny's rich stepdad in Cobra Kai

Shane gillis part 3 when?
have you ever done an episode sober?
I get the itis around lunch time cuz i eat heavy shizz and tons of it.
McGruder's genius and thesis for this show can be found in this episode. Elijah Mohamed/ Nation of islam is as good as pork for black americans.
