People like Spencer are so underrated. All those independent bands that do their own lyrics, arrangements, mastering and then they actually play their own music live are so under-appreciated compared to pop "artists" that don't do anything. Lyrics are done by someone else, arrangement, mastering etc all done for them. Really hard to call that song yours when you did is just sang it. So unfair, man.
I don't know how many times I've searched "*insert vocalist* in studio" to try to get some raw vocal examples. To have an in depth look at Spencer recording is going to be incredibly useful and interesting
I bought her DVD and she had some great artists like Randy Blythe on there with her, but I think they were all acting like the shit worked when in reality, those guys already knew what they were doing and needed a little better support, relaxation, and technique. Here, we have REAL screams and singing. I'm buying these courses
Rather Chris will be Chris..and Melissa Cross will be Melissa Cross.. everyone is unique, and every person is somebody's everything.."Chance Th3 Rapper".. Less hate more love Graditude MetalheadJesusHippi.me lol.💯🙏♥️✝️👍
I have a friend that tried to hit that high scream at the end of Saosin's "Voices" as he was pulling into his driveway and when he got to the top of the note, he blacked out and coasted into the wall of his parents garage. No harm or damage done, but is still funny to me over 10 years later. Nice video guys! Love Spencer's vocals and Periphery as a whole. Jetpacks is a special song.
I absolutely love Spencer and the Periphery bois. I was lucky enough to meet him after a their gig in Manchester in late 2019 just before all gigs were stopped (I was so lucky because Periphery are my favourite band and it was my first time seeing them). Spencer was the coolest, chillest person I’d ever met! He was hanging out with fans for hours after the gig, just having an all round good time. You could tell he just wanted to relax and enjoy his drink amongst the company of others. He was so humble and down to earth and I honestly believe he is an exception to the “don’t meet your idols rule”. Everyone needs a Spencer in their life!
I can not tell you how excited I am for this. Spencer and periphery are my favorite metal band currently. Spencer is so talented. I’m so absolutely pumped.
I don’t know how you boys arranged this, but man oh man, I watched your tutorial on Spencer, you must be quietly exploding with excitement to hang with a guy you so intricately admired. What a compliment to your exemplary teachings by the way. Thank you and congrats on your awesome success!! Two vocalists that I truly admire.
This is so great! There's tons of footage out there with the other members of Periphery teaching us about how they do things and what gear they use. It'll be awesome learning more about Spencer's side of things. Looking forward to it.
That’s UNBELIEVABLE! Chris, such an amazing idea to bring Spencer! Definitely gonna buy the courses. Good luck with filming the courses and UA-cam videos! This video made my heart beat so fast. Amazing detailed interview you did here. It’s already so in-depth! Maybe in the future you could invite other great vocalists, it’s an amazing idea which hasn’t been done by anyone on UA-cam and just puts you on the whole other level. I would love if you could invite James Labrie, there are so much discussions about his voice, would be fun to make fans happier and haters angrier 😂
Great generosity in this interview. Spencer is a force of nature. Packs HUGE in a small package. Soooo looking forward to see periphery Live in Montreal!!
Periphery are not a band I was familiar with until hearing about them on your channel. (I'm old!) Really great song opening the stream. Looking forward to learning more about the approach you and Spencer Sotelo will be exploring. I'm convinced your channel will grow beyond your wildest expectations and this is a really good sign of that happening. Congratulations Chris, you've earned it!
Damn I am looking forward to this. I love when my favorite bands dive into the nitty gritty aspects. I love behind-the-scenes stuff, which Periphery has been AMAZING about showing. Tell Spencer thanks so much for not being afraid of showing himself raw in the vocal booth. I know some people would be scared of doing that but it is really eye-opening to see that kind of transparency.
Wow this is so awesome much appreciation to Spencer and Chris what a synchronicity I was just thinking about this the other day literally I was commenting on one of Spencer's isolated vocal tracks on UA-cam and how cool it would be to hear him before all the production editing so on and so forth is done and voila Chris lipe and Spencer sotelo.. synchronicity God speaks however one of you it I think it's awesome..SO LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS..
Always wondered if they enjoyed Cannabis...I knew Jake did and I had a feeling Misha might as well, but he’s pretty good about keeping it quiet. It sure as hell helps with writers block!
This was cool this is something new going in deep with the artist. Chris Liepe can you get Myles Kennedy on here? I would love to hear about his famous back stage 2 hour warm ups and approaches to his voice. I think there are a lot of folks out there that would like that too. Keep em comin Chris. :)
Unfortunately Myles doesn't do those warmups, at least anymore. He said on interviews that he didn't realize it was slightly straining his voice before the shows. He does way shorter ones now. 2 hours of warming up for usually less than 1h30m shows makes no sense.
This is exactly what I meant by Chris being the new Melissa cross! I know Phil from all that remains says he uses Melissa cross and he is one of my favorite vocalist and Angela Gossow has said that she uses Melissa crossing and the zen of screaming. I would’ve bought it if it weren’t for the fact that it’s only available on DVD. I don’t even know where I can get a DVD player anymore, and it’s one of the more expensive DVD tutorials. I have bought all of Jaime Vendera’s MP3 downloads. For a while I was even in his $25 per month vocal course that is now like $60 per month which is why I am no longer in his course. Honestly I’ve learned more from Chris liepe then I have from the months that I was with Jaime Vendera’s vocal course and from the $20 MP3 downloads.
Now Jaime Vendera did help in many ways enforce my veganism and got me to drink more water than I have ever drink in my life. I used to not drink very much water. I Never really cared too much for water so I’ wouldn’t drink it. He says most problems are caused by dehydration and that we are supposed to drink and eat an air and water diet of Luke warm water or room temperature water not hot or cold.
@@jacklynland3109 yeah, I have Chris' course on Udemy from way back when. I had Melissa's DVD's way back when too. Undoubtedly she has made an impact. Most metal vocalists use her warmups, so if you watch any good warmup tutorial for screaming on UA-cam, it probably comes from Melissa.
@@jacklynland3109 congrats on the veganism. I changed to veganism too. Not for vocals, but cause I work like 18hours a day and was always fatigued. So I noticed a lot of bands have vegan members. Figured it's cause of the hectic tour schedules. So I tried it.. needless to say, I'm an absolute machine now :P
This is SO good! Love your content Chris and it's so good to have the opportunity to listen Spencer talk about his process in detail! I only wish more singers were open to discuss these topics! Thank you for your hard work as always!
I learned how to scream by reaching my vocal range limit trying to sing your high notes Spencer. I kept pushing and my voice broke and it became a scream.
Chris! Please make a video on Ian Kenny from Karnivool!! Also, great video, loved how much Spencer broke down his vocals. He’s so knowledgeable yet humble about it.
AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH Spencer talking about his voice growing from use is exactly what I've been noticing about my own voice But I never heard anyone else mention it so I wasn't sure it was a real thing
Kept thinking this for a while, but it would be awesome to see a “how to sing like Dustin Bates” type video! A deeper look into his work with Starset and MNQN more recently would be awesome
Totally surprised there's not more comments. That will change today :) Very appreciative of this course concept! Not just Do, re, mi.... Stuff we can relate to! Thanks, thanks, thanks! ???? ?Favorite mic for shows? Peace
thats is the beautiful of decontructed screams. no fry, no false chord, no whisper, just scream. the only thing that make the terminology or classiffication is confusion. learn how to make the break and make more pressure or less. that`s is how i learned. thank spencer and chris.
Will the vocal technique course (with Spencer) cover any (if not most) of the same material as your first course or would it be better to purchase both your first course and the one you're doing with Spencer?
Will these courses be available into the future (not "limited time only") and if the courses are purchased are they able to be rewatched later on for practical reference? I don't personally have the time to get into thoroughly practicing vocals at the moment, but this is exactly what I would be interested in when I can begin to focus.
Once you enroll you get lifetime access for a one time price. It will be available for limited time enrollment windows throughout the year so that we can serve manageable class sizes who choose to enroll!
And this is first and this is for Spencer do you ever do remakes in your own style of older songs like Unchained Melody anything like that I'm just curious to know if you ever do stuff like that
Oh man mulholland drive is a hella trippy movie!!! I remember the first time I saw it I was on an eighth of shrooms! It had a very profound and intense effect on me

Chris Liepe is now going to be the new Melissa cross!
I, for one, really didn't like her first DVD. It played like an infomercial. Never checked her out again.
More like the free Melissa Cross XD

"You learn by intentionally going on a journey" - Chris Liepe. Can't agree more with this.
Spencer is one of the coolest cat in the universe. Even though I'm not a vocalist I'm looking forward to see the course!
I play guitar, but vocalists like Spencer make me want to develop my vocals.
Same.
Sam Carter's sing screams, the growls of Mikael Åkerfeldt and overall vocals of Spencer really make we want to improve my vocals.
@@KenoxProductions and Ronnie Radke
Same. One of my all time favorite vocalists for sure

Same 100%

I love how you guys are just like buddies spending time together like it feels so relaxed and those stories outside of music, perfect!

I'm super hyped about the course. Spencer is my main insperation why i started to Sing and Scream.
This is great idea. Chris, i bet you had a ton of ppl ask just for this. A How to Sing like Spenser course. Im in!

Thank you so much for doing this video. I got so much out of this video it's insane.
Incredible vocalist
I'm so down for this course! I can't wait
I hate that I missed this live, but glad I'm here now!
Getting sanity checked by you two confirms I'm not as not as crazy as the people in my life think I am. Excited for the courses!
Right... Seems so much more approachable!! Some of this unreachable stuff. I know it is for me after having Spencer here!
Jet packs was yes!!!!!!! My dude!!!!! I really wish you would do "ow my feelings" as well

Thanks for doing this Chris. I look forward to purchasing the course from you guys, please consider doing this again in the future!

Thanks so much Guys!! Appreciated.
Chris! Please make a video on Ian Kenny from Karnivool!! Also, great video, loved how much Spencer broke down his vocals. He’s so knowledgeable yet humble about it.

Omg it’s Spencer!! Yeah!!! 🎧😆🎤 Love your work!!! Jet packs is easily one of my all time favorites!!
This is an awesome thing you guys are doing! Spencer is legendary 🤟😝 Id love to see Tillian Pearson from DGD on here!
