Thank you so much for the shout out! UA-cam just now decided to show me these mentions. Loved watching you ladies today. Thank you for sharing with us!
Rachel, your Christmas granny stripe is beautiful! Maybe try a foundation row instead of a chain if you start over. Or use a hook 1-2 sizes bigger for the initial chain.
Love watching your floss tube! On the granny squares, you bring in the fifth color and do all the centers and then add all the colors like you started with the 4 colors. You are just introducing another color. I work mine the same way. It is perfect for taking on a trip to work on.
So enjoy watching the two of you! Thank you for sharing so much eye candy! I chuckled through the whole video when the two of you would have trouble remembering names, story of my life😂😂
I just love stitching on your fabric - I am stitching Blackbird Christmas Garden on your 36 ct Boston Tea Party and I cannot even find the words to describe how much I am in love!!! I have ordered more as well as Dunes at Dusk! I stalk the shop lol for when you restock! Lol
I picked up my mail and my Aida. OMG Sue….you are a genius. I love it. It is gorgeous! Rachel, I hope you will have more of this in your store. I just realized you are in Ada. I didn’t know I had a town named after me! 👏
Those embroidered pieces that look like shiny cotton…they are cotton but they’re shiny from steam ironing them over and over on hottest setting! I have several sets of vanity sets my mother and grandmother embroidered, some of which are shiny as well as tablecloth/napkin sets. Fun to be with you both while warping my rigid heddle loom!
So glad to see you guys. I use sulky all the time, I find that it is more like a consistency of 1.5 DMC threads if that makes sense. not quite as thick as 2 strands but definately more than one. Especially helpful for monochrome pieces and the Blendables are so pretty. Ahhh German exchange students, we had 3 over the years our youngest daughter was in high school and she spent the summer with one of their families. So much fun. You will enjoy the experience I am sure.
Waving my hand wildly to let you know I was the one who found the 32 count Covered Bridge fabric! It came today and it’s beautiful! Please keep dyeing my favorite count of fabric❤️
Beautiful stitching ladies! I agree Sue, the surging is the best. Let's talk about this Tiny Modernist Haunted Mansion - my OCD kicked in because the picture Rachel showed, well the moon is different from the one you are stitching on Sue. I could not find another one, but the one you have from 2018 does list as "original" so there must be another version printed. I love it! And thanks for talking about needles, especially the gold ones. I did have perfect gold needles years ago, cannot find the brand that they were - but I went ahead and ordered the John James from Rachels shop. Got them and some other goodies yesterday 🤩 from the shop. Thanks Rachel! It inspired me to keep volunteering for overtime lol. Granny stripped blankets oh my! Sue, that is a million dollar blanket - stunning! love that design and thank you for sharing about how you stitch each square with the colors - brilliant!
Thank you!! We appreciate your tolerance of our inability to remember names that day!! We both had a lot going on behind the scenes I think and were both just HOT! Lol. ❤️
I always love everything that you guys do and show. It's so awesome!! I did have to cringe a little bit when you started talking about the crochet items and how it is "coming back again" to the "knitting world". ACK!!! Having been a crocheter (and knitter and cross stitcher and embroiderer and sewist! I love all the crafts!) 50+ years... really I never stopped! And it's so funny how granny squares.... granny anything go in and out of "fashion". 😆 😆 I do love the bag Fabric and ordered some today from you Rachel, so cute and it will hold my current crochet project. I'm crocheting the Christmas Eve crochet stockings by Anna Nikipirowicz. PS: Rachael, when you cast on a project like that use a bigger hook and still be loose with your chain.
Hello ladies! Ooh you do make me giggle, as soon as I hear that music! It’s made for you two! Thanks for sharing all the fun and your beautiful stitching. Rachel we need to see a cute photo of your quilt drapped somewhere on display! Those blankets are gorgeous but don’t cut off the red on that German piece, it’s such a glorious red! Have a lovely few weeks, can’t believe it’s only been two weeks since the last FT, goodness where did that time go? Best wishes from across the pond 💕🇬🇧
Okay, since you said so, I promise not to cut the red! I still need to sew my label on my quilt. (I felt like I needed to confess to you so I can get maybe a marching order!?! And then it will actually get done!)
I loved combinations and permutations in math class. I approach crochet squares in the same way. I totally got what you were saying. Loved this video and love y’all.
New follower and so glad I found you! Thanks for enabling me to buy spendy pencils(prior show!) I’m so excited to re-live those girlhood days of a new pencil! I ordered the whole shebang of Caritas (I’m from Mass!) 😆 But seriously, you two are great to stitch with and listen to your banter. I may have to binge on a couple more of your podcasts while I stitch today. Thank you for taking the time to do them. It’s a lot of work on top of everything else that goes with running small business. Cheers.
So funny that you talked about Sulky thread- FQS stocked some for the 1st time last year and i bought …a few 🥴… when they were 20% off and I’ve been using them the past couple of days and Im really enjoying it. Just using 1 strand is great, I have both the solid and variegated spools. Kimberly from FQS mentioned 8n the past weeks that theyve not been selling well, so go grab some from their and then they’ll stock more!
Thank you. It was quite a day for not remembering things! I think we both had a lot on our plate and we’re both HOT. 😂. We appreciate your kindness about it. And humor!
I recently ordered some of the EdMar - Tapestry #26 Needle and #28 Needles and love them. I used to use the Pat Carson needles and these are the best I've found so far as a replacement. The eye is also large. I ordered them from GaRon Stitchery. I love watching you two and love the fabric in the club!
Hi there! I love Sulky threads! Mostly because I love working with only one thread. Yep one sulky over two on 32, 14/28 count.. but I don’t think it’s carried in the big box stores. It’s a special weight unlike regular sulky sewing thread. Love your tube!
Love watching you both , just a comment about the Pony needles , like you at first I didn’t like them , I felt like they didn’t pull smoothly through the fabric however what I did find out that the more you use them the surface seems to wear down and then they just flow through the fabric .
Awe thank you so very much for the shout-out! That was so nice of you. Ann Mcfarlan is a really fantastic sampler. On my Instagram feed, I have an image of a customer working on it with the border complete. She was using 40ct Seraphim linen. It was spectacular. I really love your show and just signed up.
Oh my gosh..... when the words Geneology Musings popped up, Rachael had such a serious face and Sue was looking upward for answers... I will be chuckling for days! I love you two ladies...
Rachel, I have had that same issue and have been crocheting for years. First I started staying away from blankets that required a king chain to start so I would make the Corner to Corner. The solution is to start with a single crochet “cast on.” It is a way of making just a few chains to create 1 SC at a time until you have the width of your blanket. You no longer end up with the tight chain edge. Of course, others go up a few sizes on their crochet hook or chain very loosely.
Oh how I love when you girls share a flosstube! Sue…don’t delay, get your mom to talk family history. Record it, take notes. My parents are both gone and as soon as my mom passed away (at age 69, my dad was 60) my brain lost all the facts and info! I’m the oldest sibling and I feel like I don’t have anyone to back up memories I think I have about things our parents shared. Do it! ASAP! You’ll be so glad you did. You can get the dates on the internet, you need the stories!
YES. I use the voice recorder on my phone. If you haven't used it much, be sure you know how to save it. Great difference. Even if the sound quality isn't perfect, you still have their voice. I have my uncle at a dining room table telling stories. It is noisy sometimes, but still, it is a treasure. I was able to text and email the voice recordings and everyone could have them.
Thank you ladies for the sweet, sweet shoutout, it honestly made my week!!🥰❤Sue, I can't wait to see what you end up choosing for your pandemic piece! I was thinking about doing mine in my school colors since I was in grad school when it all went down, but I'm too intimidated to start it lol! I'm definitely going to have to pick up some of your yarn! I'm just getting back into knitting now after several years off, and I'm loving it! Rachel, it's so fun that you find samplers with your name on them, I love that! I'd never be able to lol! And your Teresa Kogut patreon pattern looks amazing, I'm so tempted to join her patreon! Both of you have a lovely week, happy stitching and dyeing and shop running! 💜
I have the Sulky cotton petites dream assortment #1 and #2 in that come in slimline storage boxes. There are 160 different colors of 50 yard spools of 12 weight cotton thread in the two boxes. I bought them on Amazon. My go-to fabric is 16 count Aida. I like the coverage the thread makes. My only complaint is that if you have to pull it out and try to reuse it, it frays easier than dmc. You can only remove a few stitches before it is a problem. You also have to pay attention to it twisting. I usually mix it with dmc in my pieces.
New to your channel.. love it! Sue, maybe try Sullivan’s ball point tip needles! I use them exclusively and loove them. They’re unique- I think you’ll definitely be able to tell them apart from other needles😊

I LOVE Sulky threads, I just wish they had more colors to choose from. But they have several. Could you outline/backstitch around your shops on Coming to America? I finished mine within the timeframe they gave when it came out and it is so beautiful, you really need to finish it. I love all your finishes, both of you! 💞
I do so wish I could converse with you in real time I could add so much...like Aurifil makes a 12wt embroidery floss. You may want to check it out before you stock your shop. The only place I know that carries it is Cotton Cuts.
You both are cracking me up! (What a curious expression.). Anyway, loved your video. Sue, your Santa is beautiful. Rachel, what fabulous family treasures. Loved seeing them. I’m curious…I’m in the Aida club and am in Phoenix…should my cloth be here by now? If you find out the history and what that German cloth was used for, please share. Now, go to the blackboard and write 100 times, Linen and Scraps, Linen and Scraps. 🤦♀️👍
Hi Pat! Now I need to go look up that expression! Anyways, checked on your Aida and it says it was delivered yesterday in your mailbox (email me back at rachel@treehousefiberarts.com if it’s not there). Linen and Scraps, Linen and Scraps!! Too funny!
I have a cross stitch sampler done by my great grandmother that has "Fleiss bringt Gewinn" on it, which means "industry brings rewards". It was a school sampler, so a sense of order would be a similar virtue that girls were taught. I wonder why the border on yours is only on three sides and what it was used for.
Love you both and look forward to your videos.... So as far as Pandemic...how about Aubergine, Eggplant color and I am Not a Purple person. Just an idea....
how about doing the pandemic pattern in white silk thread on a black or dark gray fabric? I couldn't see if there was space for your initials and the date. I think that would be important to include.
Granny Crochet: I heartily dislike creating a chain and then doing the first couple of rows of an afghan/blanket. Solution? Corner to corner granny "clusters" blanket. I took this technique from Hooked by Robin ua-cam.com/video/f4-6dBxkL8Q/v-deo.html I am using a medium weight (4) variegated yarn (Lion Brand Mandala Tweed - now no longer available, but they have other lovely variegated yarns) and a 4.5 mm hook. I increase until I am halfway through the yarn I have and then I decrease the rest of the way. It is fabulous and because it is variegated I am not changing colors all the time. See what you think. AND I am doing a one only granny square baby blanket so that I don't make smaller squares and then have to join them. I am using Erica Arndt's video ua-cam.com/video/n-x88m8_6Ac/v-deo.html I do have to change colors for each "go round", but it becomes less frequent as the square gets larger. I am always looking for shortcuts and try to let the yarn speak for itself rather than doing complicated stitches. Thanks for your friendly videos.
Would someone please respond to me. I have been trying to get started with cross stitch what I'm looking to do is find a small like a pillow or something with the old fashioned fabric you know like tea stained look whatever but something that's got to be stamped because I don't know how to do cross stitch unless I have a pattern what somebody please please tell me where I can get some kind of a small kid just to get started with and I don't mean one of these things from one of the big box stores maybe someone will kindly respond to me thank you this is Claire down in North Carolina thanks again I love your channel by the way!
Boy, I don’t know of any kits with stamped patterns on the linen for cross stitch. I only do counted cross stitch. Maybe someone else out here can help?!

Rachel, your Christmas granny stripe is beautiful! Maybe try a foundation row instead of a chain if you start over. Or use a hook 1-2 sizes bigger for the initial chain.
It’s 104 in New Jersey. What a perfect day to stay inside and watch a longgggg floss toss episode.
Sue, for the ends of your granny stripe blanket you could think like Stephen West and braid them together or something ;)
I love you ladies! Thank you for two hours of goodness and inspiration and fun!! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

The yellow flowers with napkins is a card table tablecloth. My grandmother had a ton of them, since she belonged to a bridge club.

We did look ridiculous! Lol! Such a serious genealogy discussion. Xoxox should we take a bet on whether sue actually starts researching????!! Lol
A great video! Look forward to seeing your new videos.🍒🍒🍒
I like the Sulky because it doesn’t twist up while you are stitching. I assume it’s more balanced because it’s not plied like a typical floss?

I have the Sulky cotton petites dream assortment #1 and #2 in that come in slimline storage boxes. There are 160 different colors of 50 yard spools of 12 weight cotton thread in the two boxes. I bought them on Amazon. My go-to fabric is 16 count Aida. I like the coverage the thread makes. My only complaint is that if you have to pull it out and try to reuse it, it frays easier than dmc. Hi ladies! Good to see you this morning. I’m just starting to watch your video and heard you talking about sulky thread. Hi Sheila! Thanks for the feedback on the sulky! I just got a bunch to try out - we shall see how it goes!
Oh, and I never thought about outlining - Will think about that!
Rach, if you redo your striped blanket, look up how to do a foundation crochet row instead of starting with a chain. You will love it.
Ooh, yes. Starting with a foundation row is fantastic.
Okay, going to do that! Thanks pal!
I do so wish I could converse with you in real time I could add so much...like Aurifil makes a 12wt embroidery floss. You may want to check it out before you stock your shop. The only place I know that carries it is Cotton Cuts.

How interesting, Norah. Thanks for sharing!
Those antique pieces look like dresser scarves
Could your German piece have been meant to be a banner with a fringe on the bottom? Liked Sue's idea for framing it. Interesting piece!
Me again! Now I need to know about the granny square striped! Are these crocheted? And I need a diagram of the granny square system, Sue!
Yes, they are crocheted. And agree - oh Sue - we need a diagram please!
@@flosstoss221 thank you! I’ve never used anything other than cheap yarn and now I need to buy Sue’s bundles!!!
The pandemic sampler..Sue a deep rich purple.
On your crochet blankets are you using the yarn double? What size hooks are you using? Love all the stitching and I want to do all of it. 😂
Nope, held single. I think I used an E?
💜💜💜

Love it! Thanks for the advice. Will have to try this sometime!
I think you should go 1 strand because the problem is getting 2 threads through the tight holes rather than tent stitch with 2 strands.
Agree!! That’s the plan
I don’t think you can get sulki 12 wt cotton at Joann’s
When you held up the napkins folded in half, I thought, needlebook. 🤷♀️

Boy, I don’t know of any kits with stamped patterns on the linen for cross stitch. I only do counted cross stitch. Maybe someone else out here can help?!
Shepards Bush has what are called kids kits which are stamped that you might like. They have a website. Looks like ordering is by phone.
