As someone who's been to a children's mental hospital, even though nowadays we know so much more about mental health and all, there definitely still is a lot of adults who work at these places who don't really care about the kids there. When I was there I was constantly lied to by the authority figures, my own assigned therapist. I've never shyed away from a therapist, even if I wasn't entirely comfortable with them while talking, and yet the people who were in charge of when I could leave were told that I was uncooperative and had to be held longer until I "decided I wanted to talk", when I got upset about being lied about I got talked down to and told if i didn't do better I wouldn't be getting out when I wanted. You really do find just one or two adults that are actually caring and the rest are so obviously fake, some barely hide it. You get told you're a brat because you have a mental problem, which only makes things worse. You really do just have to suppress everything and fake being okay to get out of those places, which isn't helpful at all. Instead of feeling like I could be honest about how I felt, I just found myself in a loop of "yeah I feel much better" when I had barely seen the sun for a week and I was constantly threatened by missing Christmas with my family and friends. The only people you know you can trust are the kids you're there with. I remember one night sobbing in my room and a nurse came to check I was in there, stared at me as I shook, hyperventilating, and then just walked away. But when I had a panic attack due to two girls starting a fight with each other, one of the other girls rushed over and got between me and everything else happening and talked me down, offered a hug, and sat and drew and colored with me until I was calm again..
I’m so sorry this happened to you, it is truly awful. Looks like punitive psychiatry is alive and well even in this day and age 😢 makes me glad that I never got officially diagnosed with anything when I was a child. Even as an adult, I have met some pretty awful unprofessional people working in mental health that do more harm than good, I feel like child me could have never dealt with that.
@@sonia625 Sadly, It is very much alive and well. ECT is still around as is psycho-surgery. Add the pills that mostly shut a person down rather looking for the root causes of the problems. Many of which probably has a simple fix once the REAL problem is known, I'm not talking tha I know the fix, I'm just saying that undoubedly the fix itself could something very much that once known would be relatively easy to fix. For example urinary tract infections have been known to cause mental problems

I have only come out about like 2 things over my entire life and they were both in 2022 I'm so sorry you actually had to experience this

Yeah I think our "imaginary friend" isn't so much an "imaginary friend" as it is a manifestation of their actual mental illness. Maybe they all are? But I definitely think Anthony's is.
I think so too I also think the previous treatment was working for us at least cause we didn't have one for so long but then they changed it and then we swapped it with water so now we're not being treated at all and now she's back which is showing us we are unwell again. But I don't think the imaginary friends are good I think they are a sign of unwellness.
I love how long it took Matt to cotton on to the fact that Boris is, in fact, a SYMPATHETIC-sounding character and not just Dr Fig's crony. I'd spotted that already in the last video!
I’m really glad you’re playing this game, I know it’s very blunt and grotesque in its descriptions and situation, but acknowledging that this was very frequent then and unfortunately still continuing to some degree today is an important step in the right direction, as a mentally ill individual myself, I find solace in the way you confront these issues and talk about them, it’s very comforting to know that people care.

This isnt really relevant to the lore but more of a fun detail, but the reason the human characters look like shadowly sillohettes may be due to face blindness, a symptom sometimes experienced by schizophrenics. This face blindness us exactly what it sounds like. Difficulty in seeing facial features and an inability to differentiate people from each other.
I feel like you are on to something. I don't know anything about the game and it's story/endings, but so far it reads to me like either this kid has schizophrenia and/or none of the other "friends" are real.
You know, the whole "Kids just exaggerate, don't believe everything they say" mentality is how we ended up with hundreds of kids being neglected and left to rot by orphanage workers.

Am very happy to have reacted to this continuation with Matt & Ash! The drug trip scenes were genuinely scary & the investigation of what the ghost did was also a freaky. I'm very interested to see what the ghost tape is & deal more with Anthony's imaginary friend (jt seems like the treatments had been working previously, which is interesting). Very fun playthrough & commentary ("cuddling with a cleaver" made me laugh)!
At this point, I wanna just say Boris is like that weird uncle figure you think is bad but he's the one you can trust with your life and he wants you to have the best life away from the people who are actually hurting you.

The thing about "imaginary friend" in real life, if you view it as how you see yourself. If your scared of it, and or shun it away, it will become more hostile. And slowly over take you. Unlike if you were to realise it's flaws, and see it as no more then a lonely child. Then, mabye you can become "friends".

He seems so taken aback like it would never even occur to him that a child would act like this but I mean, a lot of us went through sht. You go through stuff, ya can't figure out how to release it, you just *do* things trying to deal with it.

I found a great game for gtlive to cover. It is a doors inspired Roblox game called pressure. Now, before skipping my comment believe me that this is game has much lore to uncover and much fun to discover. (the gtlive room is in the game as an easteregg)
I mean, I get it's risky to go out to the shed and all and that the letter is just easier to exchange but like, I do understand Annabelle's point. The paper in a place like that is probably limited, considering they literally threw it out in the trash and you have to scavenge for it. Sending the letters back and forth is probably pretty hard too, considering that you and Annabelle would have to go through the nurses every night to exchange letters, rather than once every few days as needed. That, and it only takes one night for the two to get caught and for all the information in the letters to be revealed. Going in person has less of a change for their information to be seen by a nurse in a passing sweep of their rooms.

Like, obviously they weren't all like that but the line "why bother when they're out of their minds" is basically the summary of WHY they're like that. They don't see mentally ill people as people. I love the Ash and Matt duo so much!!!! Their personalities complement each other’s so well in a very iconic way, although quite different and unique! They remind me of siblings and I enjoy it so much, even though I miss seeing more of Steph!! I love you guys so much!!!
As a fellow clean freak I have to say I'm the exact opposite of you guys when it comes to toilet etiquette. I've seen how bacteria sprays when you flush a toilet so I avoid using a public toilet whenever possible. When I do use them I run out of the stall asap (including reaching over with my foot if it's not an auto-flusher), wash the sink handles since they're probably covered in bacteria, and use my shirt for drying hands and opening doors. This includes most other people's houses since so few people put the lid down (not the seat, the lid) to keep the germs inside the toilet, though of course they have lids so I don't have to rush, just hope there aren't still poop particles floating around from the last use. If I clean a toilet I'm expecting the toilet brush and flushing it to spread bacteria everywhere so I always immediately shower after.
.. you could have a phobia, I always wash my hands and put the toilet seat down because of spray. I put toleit paper on public toilets, and at work use paper towels to open door handles. And I clean the bathroom once a week. Your routine is extremely rigorous..
@@CatsSmore Yeah I'm pretty sure I do. I've spoken with my therapist about it in case I had OCD, I've got other cleanliness related issues, but it's not OCD. Something to possibly work on in the future if it starts to negatively impact my life, but for now they said it's ok.
I know it's the spray your concerned with, but even with the lid closed, the spray gets around... And we're designed to be able to handle a certain amount of germs... I do have OCD that manifests differently, and I'm not so sure your therapist is right about this not being OCD, or the precursor to it if I'm honest 😕
@@DaniCal1forn1a I don't have enough traits for it to be diagnosable. Also stress and feeling like I need control over my life can change how bad certain habits get, which I don't think is very OCD either?

It's nice that Ash thinks 40s mental hospital nurses can have likable traits... Like, obviously they weren't all like that but the line "why bother when they're out of their minds" is basically the summary of WHY they're like that. They don't see mentally ill people as people. Simple as that. That's why they think the kids killed the nurse. Because they MUST be violent if they're mentally ill. That's literally how ableism works.

I remember seeing the developer talk about this. It is not going into the veins. This is just surface skin. They said when they had to practice injecting insulin they were told to practice with water.
My theory about the main characters "imaginary friend" is that since the character has schizophrenia, his "imaginary friend " is alot more powerful in a way

Hay, Mat or Ash or whom ever sees this comment. You guys should consider playing more of the dark pictures anthology series, you and we all seemed to really enjoy it (i only say this because i just finished the first 3 games for the 2nd time)
I love the Ash and Matt duo so much!!!! Their personalities complement each other’s so well in a very iconic way, although quite different and unique! They remind me of siblings and I enjoy it so much, even though I miss seeing more of Steph!! I love you guys so much!!!
As a fellow clean freak I have to say I'm the exact opposite of you guys when it comes to toilet etiquette. I've seen how bacteria sprays when you flush a toilet so I avoid using a public toilet whenever possible. When I do use them I run out of the stall asap (including reaching over with my foot if it's not an auto-flusher), wash the sink handles since they're probably covered in bacteria, and use my shirt for drying hands and opening doors. This includes most other people's houses since so few people put the lid down (not the seat, the lid) to keep the germs inside the toilet, though of course they have lids so I don't have to rush, just hope there aren't still poop particles floating around from the last use. If I clean a toilet I'm expecting the toilet brush and flushing it to spread bacteria everywhere so I always immediately shower after.
.. you could have a phobia, I always wash my hands and put the toilet seat down because of spray. I put toleit paper on public toilets, and at work use paper towels to open door handles. And I clean the bathroom once a week. Your routine is extremely rigorous..

@@CatsSmore Yeah I'm pretty sure I do. I've spoken with my therapist about it in case I had OCD, I've got other cleanliness related issues, but it's not OCD. Something to possibly work on in the future if it starts to negatively impact my life, but for now they said it's ok.
I know it's the spray your concerned with, but even with the lid closed, the spray gets around... And we're designed to be able to handle a certain amount of germs... I do have OCD that manifests differently, and I'm not so sure your therapist is right about this not being OCD, or the precursor to it if I'm honest 😕
@@DaniCal1forn1a I don't have enough traits for it to be diagnosable. Also stress and feeling like I need control over my life can change how bad certain habits get, which I don't think is very OCD either?
