  • Let's Make a Deal (also known as LMAD) is a television game show that originated in the United States in 1963 and has since been produced in many countries throughout the world. The program was created and produced by Stefan Hatos and Monty Hall, the latter serving as its host for nearly 30 years.
The format of Let's Make a Deal involves selected members of the studio audience, referred to as "traders", making deals with the host. In most cases, a trader will be offered something of value and given a choice of whether to keep it or exchange it for a different item. The program's defining game mechanism is that the other item is hidden from the trader until that choice is made. The trader thus does not know if they are getting something of equal or greater value or a prize that is referred to as a "zonk," an item purposely chosen to be of little or no value to the trader.
Let's Make a Deal is also known for audience members who dress in outrageous and unique costumes in order to increase their chances of being selected as a trader.

One of the greatest game shows of all time

The original series aired first on NBC in daytime IN COLOR from 1963-1968. Then the series moved to ABC in 1968 where it aired in both the daytime and prime time schedule LIVE and IN COLOR where it lasted until the late 1970’s. LET’S MAKE A DEAL is still the second longest running game show on daytime television

Thank you for showing this, one of my fave game shows and in my opinion the 60s and 70s episodes were the best. Maybe someone might know this, considering this is from 1969 I wonder why it's in black and white since the mid 60s most things had gone to color. If anyone knows would love the info, tried to look on google and info lacking in regards to some late 60s still in black and white.

This is not a '63 episode! It didn't air on ABC until the late 60s! Before that it was on NBC.

@@VintageFilmChannel The odds of finding any LMAD eps from the NBC era are slim, as odds are they were probably wiped. There are, however, many ABC daytime and nighttime eps intact.

@@VintageFilmChannel Mod Squad started in 1968 and the beehive hairdos were popular up to 1969. Also that style of 6 wheel Scrambler looks to be from 68 or 69. Ditto the Maytag washer/dryer. So just that... 1968 or 1969.

The picture quality is pretty good. Actually it's what our black and white sets looked like in the 60's with their 525 scanning lines. "The Mod Squad" sure looks better on our modern HD flat screen TV's. I'm surprised there's no cigarette ads but maybe those were only aired at night.

    • @kenherrera2819

Tobacco ads were probably deleted for UA-cam. I'm quite sure the original airing had cigarettes ads because they were everywhere in the 60's.

Cigarette ads occasionally showed up on daytime shows...I sense the networks didn't run many because the percentage of children and teens watching was higher.

What's a guy to do? I need to get to Hollywood to go on the "Let's make a deal" show and hope I win a flat screen tv. I just busted mine because I wanted to kill that bug that was bugging me. Turns out it wasn't a bug at all.
