- I finally found it! Here's the official music video for Anne Murray's dark, dramatic, dare I say "tough"-sounding synth-pop single from 1984, "That's Not The Way (It's S'posed to Be)." Enjoy this rare clip of Anne at her adventurous best!
You don't get more 80's than this.
Almost can't believe this exists!!!🥰😆🤣I love it. Anne Murray is truly great.
Anne Murrays best kept secret song....should have been a MASSIVE hit!!!!!
My favorite song from that LP. It should have been a big hit.
Yes
That cowboy was gorgeous 😍
My all time fave Anne Murray song just has an awesome groove and sounds so cool :-)
I can't tell you how many times I blasted this song into my headphones when I was a teenager. My absolute favorite song off the album. I wish it had done better for her. It should've blown up the pop charts for sure. Video is kinda odd but fun.
By far, the best song off a great album. I love it when artists go beyond the labels that are put on them. Anne is a true Canadian treasure.
This video was shown a lot on VH1 back in the day. I never quite "got it" and still don't but it's my favorite song on the album. It's really a shame it didn't do well on the pop charts. This is proof that Anne Murray can sing anything. Period.
I remember this video on FRIDAY NIGHT VIDEO..
love this she makes me so proud to be from nova scotia
Never saw the video but I thought this was the best song on the album. Thanks for making it available.
She was caught between the country and pop World which made her more country pop
Perfect piece of soulful pop!
LOVE this! My maw loved her, rip maw. Love from Canada
I saw this video at the tail end of age 15 in 1984.
I was a kid in the 1970s and my mother had Anne Murray records.
Yes, this song and vidro was quite a departure from what most expect of Anne.
It "bubbled under" the U.S. Hot 100 at #106 in 1984.
I remember seeing the premiere of this video on Friday Night Videos. I'd been a casual fan of Anne's at that point but I really liked this video and the song!
Wow--that is rare! Thanks for posting this. Anne was a class act.
I stand corrected, Lynn. It also goes to show what a screwed up system we have in the US - the "program director" makes the decision, "Oh I don't think this will do anything in this market" instead of playing it and allowing the public to vote with requests and sales. I can understand why this didn't quite click at Country radio, but Pop stations should have been all over this record.
Pop stations were adding questionable music to the playlists.....instead of going with the tried and true stars like Anne who released this masterpiece
@@glennwaddell305 The record industry became more image conscious than it had ever been with videos the principal delivery system of the 80's. Anne was typecast by this point in her career and while it doesn't fall short of what other contemporaries managed she was, "The girl from Springhill". If all you did was listen to the track it would be OK but the video makes her seem very awkward and out of her element. If this was a "cool" video she didn't present as cool and that was what the popular music industry craved.
Thanks for the upload been looking for this song forever.
I remember this one. Probably the closest Anne Murray came to Rock n Roll.
Awesome... I have been searching for years...one of her best!
Such a great video, and song!
THANK YOU THANK YOU for finding this....it's been YEARS!!!
never even knew there was a video for this. i bet she enjoyed the change of direction, albeit brief. i always loved this song from the album, most of all. great upload, thanks
Thank you so much for posting this video!! So awesome!!
Ooo ooo ooo!!! Thanks for posting this! I haven't seen this video since the 80s! Great song. Thanks for sharing on UA-cam. :D
The song is not MIA on iTunes - it's from the album "A Little Good News", which they have, and can be downloaded (it's one of the $1.29 downloads, though).
Awesome! Thanks for posting. I had not seen that in 25+ years!
Finally! Thank you Kerry for posting this forgotten Anne Murray nugget to UA-cam. I remember hearing this on the radio at the time and the video got some play. Don't know how it did on the country chart, but it only bubbled under at #106 on the 3-17-84 pop chart. When I tell people Anne Murray had a moody synth pop song that had a video featuring a stud, an old car, a silver trailer, shattering glass and her sporting sunglasses, I get weird looks. MIA on iTunes, or any of her hits collections.
Many singers were into the moody synth tunes in the late 1980s, like Maryiin Martin. A unique, darker sound, but one not really fit for Anne Murray. I also wonder if this song & video were made as a musical story about the stalker that she once had. Either way, this song & video were long lost, but not forgotten.
@@Halpin2006 I don't think this great song and video was about her stalker. More like a forbidden fantasy. 1:55 - 2:00's mic stand and mic scene are suggestive in a way I am sure she would not want to use to glorify a stalker, and a stalker song wouldn't have her smile near the end.
Thank you, thank you for uploading! Been looking for this for years. Can you believe this was in Heavy Rotation on Nickelodean Rocks? That's where I used to see this video and lust after the guy.
Great pop hit from her
Anne was singing with a tougher raspier voice than usual on several songs from the album. This should have been a huge crossover hit for her. Ronnie Milsap had to go without his glasses while Anne borrowed them for the video. JK! 😀
God, who was that sexy FalconPac, and where did he get away to....? :p Been waiting YEARS for this one to make it to UA-cam. Thanks a million for the upload.
This was the second single -- in the U.S., at least. "Just Another Woman in Love" was third. Still, your point about the song's lack of momentum is well taken. It's one of the bigger chart injustices, along with "Are You Still in Love With Me."
I remember having seen this when it first aired, but my recollection was that the Airstream trailer exploded at the end. Funny how our memories distort things after so many years.
Now that his has been found after so long a wait, the remaining 'holy grail' music video from the 80s that I'd like to see -and from the same year as this, 1984- is the one that accompanied Leon Russell's "Goodtime Charlies Got The Blues."
Play it at 1.25 speed and it sounds even better.
NICE !!
this does NOT sound like Anne, and not her usual style. even the video. it's awkward yet interesting.
She was trying to change up her image. I love the song and the video.
Per allmusic.com it was #12 Adult Contemporary and #46 on the cou try chart
As the third single released from the "A Little Good News" album, this had nowhere to go (third singles didn't usually do anything back then) but I'll bet it raised a lot of eyebrows when people bought the album and put it on for the first time....I, of course, always knew Anne had it in her to do anything she wanted to, and do it smashingly. Here's but one example.
Except that you're wrong ..... This was the 2nd single from A LITTLE GOOD NEWS, not the 3rd single.
"Just Another Woman In Love" was the 3rd single.
Found it at last!! Mum had her cassette tape with Japanese writing instead of English. Now i know what to browse on #Amazon or #CeX 😆
AMEN TO THAT!
and what a handsome young man!!! very nice bod! :D
Ssshhh....."I'm experiencing Anne Murray."
I knew a beautiful woman named Lisa who sang this song to me. It was the first time someone told me they loved me.
Anne Murray becomes a gay icon with this video! 😉
Yucch!
