Hey , I'm a former soccer player in Turkey ; these exercises are really useful. Especially lunge variations integrated with core and upper body is crucial. You need to change direction very fast in soccer, also you gotta learn to pace yourself. Chris mention the decalaration , your power don't mean shit if you can not pace yourself . Other than that, I highly suggest bosu ball , stability exercises. Because when you in contact with the opponent fighting for having the ball, you need keep your balance as well as your speed ; so core engagement always important as a stability factor. Keep training guys!
If you play soccer, you will notice there isn't really much info on how the top athletes train exactly (Messi, Neymar, Ronaldo, Hazard) so I suggest you check out how the NFL players train. Will hugely benefit you on the soccer pitch, when you are faster stronger and more agile than everyone ;)
Sure NFL players are the best conditioned athletes for a team sport but many American people are getting into basketball and association football (soccer) because of head and other injuries that are from the sport but these workouts are nice with other channels
Barcelona4Lyf You don't want to be too strong and muscular for football, like you would want to be for certain positions in American football. Although a little upper body strenght and musculature will benefit you in some aspects, movability/flexibility/explosiveness from the legs is the most important thing. It's also very good in football to have very good cardiovascular endurance. Ronaldo has the best muscles for football. Very thin but strong and ripped upper body. He mostly does bodyweight type of movements for upper body, like pushup variations, plank/situp/ab variations, pullups variations. For legs it's another story though. He uses a lot of customized stretching machines (you can find videos containing this information on youtube). He also does a lot of bodyweight squats, weighted squats, leg extenions, lunges etc. Also a lot of uni-lateral leg work like split squats, the things in this video, etc.
cris no hablo ingles pero en español te digo gracias por este video y gran material.... espero sigas subiendo cosas como estas que nos ayuden a mejorar mucho nuestras condiciones en el soccer
Keep making soccer videos! It's one of the most popular sports worldwide, and I think you would get a lot more subscribers if you put out some more soccer videos. It's not too many videos on strength training for soccer compared to other sports, so I think you definitely should make some more soccer videos. You could do position based workouts (goal keepers, centre backs, wingers/fullbacks, midfielders, strikers), speed drills etc.
One of the best simple practice for soccer players (fowards) is to use a heavy GK soccer training ball from 90s and go to a large pitch come off- dribbling- faint-run/sprint- pace the run and take a shot from outside the large area always trying to place your ball on the inside left or right posts! Short sprints w a heavy ball
TBE J he has a full program for basketball training and I would really recommend it, because it guides you through every week and every single workout! Cost a little bit, but you decide how much your career is worth it to you... Have a good one!
Really interesting perspective. I’m gonna try a few of these and see how it pans out. Aspecially that “standing on the bench with one foot and jump-exercise”. It looked really fun! I usually just focus on heavy lifting and the upper body, but since I’m in an amateur football team now I have to mix it up more :) Thanks for the vid ❤️
great workout. i would actualy add a single leg jump as a superset after the bulgarian split. after each leg, jumping with the same leg. (one jump flat and instantly jumping again with the same foot up on a bench) saw sergio ramos doing this.
The only thing I would do differently is to do the core part before the sprints, why? Mainly because for soccer core stability is a must and by leaving it to be done at the end you are not generating as much stability as you would do by doing it at the beginning and this is mostly because during the workout itself you will be needing your core stability muscles to do their job, so if you work those out at the beggining you will make sure that they will be doing a lot of stability rather than just waiting till the end of the workout to try to take them to fatigue which is not going to happen. Now if you really have a lot of core stability then you want to start with core stabilization excecises like a plank or a V-sit where you don't move your core at all, do the workout and finish up with some core strength exercises. That's how the pros train in Europe
hey chris, how do i get direct contact with you? this morning i added a variation to my football/soccer workout, for agility i spaced 5 markers 5yds apart and i placed 1 marker a step between 4 markers. i would jump that step back and then react to sprint to the next 5yds, pause 1sec then jump the step back and react to sprint and it continues. note that you finish on the 5th marker
