The final game in the trilogy.
Billy and Jimmy Lee are returning from martial arts training when their paths cross a fortune teller. She tells them of a great evil in Egypt, their strongest adversary yet, and how the Rosetta Stones can aid them.
This game features weapon shops where Billy and Jimmy can buy power-ups, tricks, energy and extra lives to aid them in their quest.
Power-ups make Billy and Jimmy twice their size, increasing their damage done and range of attack.
The character graphics have changed, moving away from cartoon style graphics to more realistic looking characters. -

It's been 30 years since I played this on the NES and I'm sure I could still play it by memory every single move was learnt to finish it as quickly as possible without getting a single hit. Incredible how everything is coming back by watching it. Miss my NES the only happy times with my brother.
I try pulling that off with super double dragon. I always screw up on the last level. No lives lost was a cakewalk. Beating the entire game without an enemy laying a hand on me a different story.
It took me and my brother 2 weeks to beat this! I found that RanZou was very useful for the jumps on the Egypt stage. The game was difficult but before game guides came out I figured out exactly what to do. I was 11 yrs old! Miss those days!
yes true dude i was the same with him first i finish that level in Egypt to jump in the start on the level with him was easy but now im so good i will finish the all game alone without use this two champs so strong im now but when i was kid i was not so strong like now for that the game was hard like for how i understand that feeling how much time i lose to play this too it was awsome days and awsome game still i feel the moment how i stand in the front of the tv and hold the controler for the nes :D and lesent this music when i play this levels it was good sometimes i play her again but my game die so for that i play her in one website he is like emulator but works good and i finish it her now everyday verry easy and fast but still is the best game :)

Double Dragons team has travelled around the world and met loads of the new martial arts friends and eventually they ended up the trip in Egypt. Felt like i've ever watched Shanghai the Night that Jackie Chan filmed it for a long time ago.

I beat it ages ago. It is all about timing. Keep all your weapons until the fight with her not just her mummy form.
Then after that use the cyclone spin kick and the hair grab technique to dodge her snake coming out of rhe ground.
This game was fun, hard, had good story, great music, good fighting mechanics and fighting balance plus diversity in terms of fighters to choose from. Great game.

i rented this one for a weekend sleep over. this game killed the fun of it. we ended up playing Double Dragon 2 on the hardest difficulty more.

I have played this game so many times in the past yet I wasn't aware of the in game menu that allowed Billy to use nunchucks. I also wasn't aware that you could opt between Billy, Chin and Ranzou
That's funny. When I was a kid, this was called Double Dragon 3: The Rosetta Stones.
Depends of the region. The name changes in America, Japan and Europe.
For the arcade and home computer ports it was "Rosetta". For the NES it was "Sacred".
Countless hours on this game, a great stress reliever.

How disappointed when after playing the far superior Double Dragon II as a kid that my weekend was ruined when I rented this game...

daabbot Yeah man...I think I got to the second or third level, maybe once! I think if there were lives or a continue system, this game would be more playable. But the other issue with this game is the controls are just so damn stiff and unresponsive.

Good old times. When I was a child, me and my friend was having a night over to stay up all night playing this. Later we realized it was already 5am and the console was broken days after when we planned to continued the game lol

nah is mega easy dude when i was kid i play her so much time and i finish it her verry easy only with the first champ i no need to change it it was east it was not challenge for me that game she is super easy and i remember have teleport code but works only if is on real console if you use the four bottons and start in the same time you teleport levels just skip them that was but the game was mega easy so i just use that for fun in the start to see all levels later when i grow up and learn how to play i just finish it her with only the first champ all game

To me, the best Double Dragon on Nes!
Been more than 12 years for me. Burning nostalgia. We couldn't finish it by playing fair and square until I unlocked a secret to directly go to the next stage by pressing the triangle, zero and start button.
This game has a notorious reputation, but unlike the arcade and Genesis versions, this version is not that bad quite honestly.

Some tips
Running flying kicks does more damage than regular one. Same with co op and walljump versions.
The game is much easier with controller having turbo buttons.
Some moves like ranzou's jumping sword attack and China's flying head butt have awkward hitbox/range. To compensate, you can do a 180° midair while doing the move. Lee bros can also use this trick to throw enemies off the ledge with their flip throw move at 2:51.
If you know how to do level skip cheat, then you can play as all four characters solo. To do this, start in 2 player friendly fire mode, kill your team mate, as they are lying dead on the ground and their body starts flashing do the level skip.
I like how this game has the balls to mention Marion was the villain under a evil spell But thats it. The game thinks we don’t we don’t need to know more aftermath of marion.
Considering Marion was shot and killed in DD2 arcade, but not the NES version, where she miraculaously recovers, there shouldn't even be a need to know the aftermath of Marion. Because she should be dead after the events of DD2.

Marian actually does get murdered during the beginning cutscene, but she gets resurrected if you beat the game on the hardest difficulty. On Supreme Master mode, you get to fight the true leader of the Shadow Warriors. After you defeat him, he tells the Lee brothers of a legend, where when two dragons (Billy and Jimmy) rise up, an angel (Marian) falls back to Earth.
Beating this game was an epiphany of joy in the place of death you survived.

Mine was DDII. There were 2 ports, easy one and hard one. We beat both with my friend Nikita.

Poor Marian got punched in the stomach and kidnaped in DD1, got shot and died in DD2, only to be resurrected and kidnaped again in DD3, then turned out to be the villain under a spell, and got her ass kicked by the Dragons. That chick will never know peace.
Honestly other than the infamous typo of bimmy lee, this was a great Double Dragon game for NeS. Much better than the arcade version. Nice graphics challenge and variety of moves and weapons.

This game is special to me because it was the first time I predicted a story's plot twist. My brother thought I had mental powers.
Amo este juego, la primera ves q jugue alquilado no pasaba del primer jefe, pero con el tiempo cuando lo compre fui avanzando hasta llegar a la final fue altamente estimulante sobretodo al descubrir mas personajes jugables, es una maravilla al igual que el double dragon 2. Ademas de dejar una gran leccion "la ambicion puede destruirte".
I understand that this NES version of the game was one of the few, if not the only one, which was pretty good. It wouldn't match Double Dragon II, according to most people, but I liked the new things you could do. 2 player co-op was not just fighting together, but using team attacks as well. I liked the fact that the enemy co-operated as well, but defensively they were not that good, because tornado kicks were more likely to be successful every time. However, in my opinion the basic enemies were more different than those from the game's predecessors, which I think is a good thing. Back in those days I always hoped to see real ninja in a Double Dragon game. It reminded me of the first two American Ninja movies, and while playing the Japan level I imagined to be playing with Joe Armstrong instead of Billy. And then I got even more amazed when I discovered I could also play as a ninja after defeating him. This character disappointed me though. He was the weakest of all of them. The Chinese guy was better, but he couldn't do as much as the two brothers. The musical themes are great, in particular the Egyption theme.

This was the only Double Dragon I played and I totally love it. I don't get all the hate this game gets... Maybe if I had played the other two, but this wasn't bad as far as I remember.
I finished it more than twice. It was one of my favorites back then.

This game probably would've been remembered more fondly if it weren't a Double Dragon game. The difficulty spike and pacing change was too much for me to take in as a kid. I like the game now and I actually find it kind of easy now that I know what to do, but it really shouldn't have been part of this franchise.
Really? I found the difficulty spike goes in reverse. The first stage you have one life and no continues. If you lose your characters in 2 or 3 it's a bit tougher, then in Italy you get a continue that will revive all the characters. The last boss can be a bit tough but there are simple tricks to avoid damage with the right characters. This play doesn't give the 'best' example given they're not a great player. They don't even seem to know about Billy's rising uppercut or flying knee attacks.
For the Italy boss I found using Ranzou and his sword works well, don't even think of using Billy or Jimmy, he'll flatten them, I made that mistake only once. For the Princess on Egypt, Chin and his Iron Claw causes massive damage to her. So keep Chin fresh, of you can help it. Also use Ranzou on the mummies with his sword.

I remember what an achievement was to reach level 4. I always tried to make the high, single jumps, with backflips...more than I loved the game. It is good to see English translation. I played the game with chinese writings and I always wondered what did Chin say upon first meeting...

If you haven't, try 'Double Dragon Advance' for the gba. Yes I know it sounds weird. But it had the most solid gameplay to it. The first 2 arcade and nes games felt, loose. You just don't know what its like until you had something 'tight.'

She was under some kind of spell, I had much trouble with her until I was telling a friend about how she always wins and he told me to use Chin and his Iron Claw, that brought her down.

The trauma. This game was brutal as fuck. But hey, so is martial arts on full contact and with limited to no rules.
I don’t care what anyone says. This is one of the hardest Nintendo games to beat. I’ve played it hundreds of times and may have beaten it once or twice with no cheat codes or game genie.
All these people chiming like "lol so easy bro" are full of it, even this playthrough came within inches of "game over" a few times. That's the thing, if you're unlucky and spin kick doesn't go off that one time or they land that extra hit, it's back to the beginning! Took a lot of the fun out of it, besides the one-life aggravation you couldn't just "play" the game, you had to stick close to a very narrow trajectory and be near perfect the whole time, more like a speedrun than a game. Fighting enemies was all about just being able to get by them and minimizing damage by any means possible. It wasn't fun spamming throw and spin kick, which didn't work half the time because of the clunky controls. Getting through this one was a tedious chore, other famously hard games like Ninja Gaiden and Castlevania were a blast to play....and in spite of the controls for Simon Belmont feeling like wading through sludge!

One of the finest NES game I'd played in my childhood era with my friends, younger brother and cousins. However, at that time I'd played Japanese version because that was only available in the market at that time. We couldn't decode the story line as that time there was neither pc nor internet or any other dude who understood Japanese. So, what my friends and I assumed Hiruko be Billy and Jimmy Lee's old mother 😂😂 with whom they travelled to Egypt to seal the demon female spirit where, unfortunately the old lady dies and this raged Billy, Jimmy, Ranzou and Chin to battle with all their power and defeat the evil queen.
Later, I still remember one of my childhood neighbourhood friend assumed that the Last stage boss might be Cleopetra's demon avatar and told me that its her spirit as the final boss.
Then later I got to know that its indeed her in the JP version and in NA version they replaced her with Marion.
Nevertheless, it's one of my fav game as it's OST/BGMs are still embedded in my heart ❤️
Still have my original nes with this game,punch out,legends if the diamond,Mario 3, and several other classics that if I do the old routine to get em goin I can play em but subject to mess up and the worst time usually at the end when you’ve made it all the way through…lol..think 88’ or so when mom got ours..36yrs ago..have intellivision also with burgertime and Atlantis

you got lives in the form of other guys you could unlock. but to get the good ending is if nobody dies.
I never beat this game as a child. I remember getting to Egypt once, but failing pathetically at the first platforms, three times in a row.
