We do have Finding Waldo btw. I had the books as a kid.
As you probably know by now the sun is quite intense during the summer but doesn't give any tan at all during early spring, late autumn and the winter. It has to do with the seasons and our distance from the equator.
I don't know if you have watched, or are even aware, of the Swedish/Netflix TV series Young Royals. Along with being a terrific series, this show has made me very interested in Sweden, learning Swedish and made me find your vlog which I enjoy very much. Both of the lead actors of YR (Edvin Ryding and Omar Rudberg) are, mostly, located in Stockholm and are frequently photographed in areas of the city that you have featured here. I have no idea if either one of them would be open to interviews but they are very popular actors and would make some great videos for your vlog. By the way, Edvin is just finishing the 6th and last season of very popular Gåsmamman on Swedish TV.

I'm Swedish and i've been interested in English my entire life, long before i started learning English in school. I have a very large English vocabulary and according to a test i did, it's actually larger than most English speaking people. So there's rarely any words i don't understand, but when it comes to speaking English, that's another story :). Since i very rarely speak English, i will sound like the Swedish chef if someone comes up to me on the street. So in combination with the typical Swedish modesty and shyness, i guess that's one major reason why so many Swedes feel a bit insecure about their English ...and why our English actually becomes better when we've had some drinks :).

In winter, we have no sunlight when we start work. 7 in the morning, when you stop at 4 o'clock on the day of inheritance you have no light from the sun. It is in southern Sweden.

I'm Swedish and i played were is waldo on the tv in the Lillo and Stich movie but instead of waldo it was that one eyed green alien.

My girlfriend arrived in december it was -16 celcius, she obviously never experienced true winter compared to the winter in south america or Peru before as she no understand what I try to explain so I got the idea to go outside the airport instead and go from +20 celcius to -16 celcius and then she understand why I bring winter clothes to the airport and use it all

Him: I think I have also like... dumbed down the way that I speak because like... in my interactions with people I´m like... constantly interacting with people where English is not their first language, so I think I have like... a more of a neutral like... easier way of speaking to make sure that everybody can understand and like... not only Swedish people but like... a lot of my friends here from like... Spain or from France or you know from different places, so I´m making it like... really really easy. I dislike all those like

Sure the Citadel castle in Landskrona is beautiful but that Kim found Landskrona a mesmerizing place is crazy to me. It's the Detroit of Sweden, some nice history but really destroyed the last 20 years...
About the tan issue: The axis of the Earth leans the top of the northern hemisphere away from the sun during the northern hemisphere's winter. So not only are you getting minimal direct sunlight compared to the light just passing you by overhead in the atmosphere, you also get fewer hours of it due to this rotation. Additionally, you have the ozone layer beating off a lot of the, I believe it is, longer alpha uv rays of the sun (that causes our bodies to produce melanin in response to protect us, thus giving a tan to paler skins). So, while yes, you SEE the light, it's mostly passing you by and not reaching the surface of the Earth, which is why the snow and cold is slow to let go. There's not enough direct heat so it doesn't melt. I may have some parts wrong. It was a while ago that I was in school and read about this. Lol

In England it's called "Where's Wally?" Absolutely loved those books as a child. It's always strange for me hearing all the international names, especially since it's by a British author 😉🙃 whatever works for the kids I guess!

Yeah, we know of “Where's Wally?”. I’ve seen it translated into Swedish as “Var är Valle?”.
@gianforte Hal About seeing it translated to Swedish? Yeah, I have. You can find “Where’s Wally?” in Swedish in Swedish bookstores. I think there’s another translation which is called “Hitta Hugo”.
When i was a kid we used to go the library with my class and we would always bring out the "where is waldo" book and look for him so I can confirm we know about him 😉
If you dumb your speach down we just gonna think we´re saying stuff right and keep doing it😅 And of course we know Waldo, you can´t find him in Sweden though, but most of us know him by reputation

Regarding that so many speak english so well, i'm assuming you were in the bigger cities. In the smaller towns atleast alot of restaurant staff (or pizzeria staff more specifically) have quite a poor english, if any at all. But then again Swedish is usually not their first language to begin with either.

The worste ting is obvius the climate.. sweden is at the same latitude as Alaska.
Today its "höstdagsjämning", (Autumnal Equinox), the day is like the night, same hours, 12/12.. it means, we are going in to a dark period.. and it take 6 more months befor, we get to spring/summer!

Jag använder ofta ord från engelskan för det är ett mycket "rikare" språk. Det borde du ta upp i någon video. Engelskan är så galet mycket mera exakt i ordval.

sant! men i vissa (inte så ofta) fall är engelskan det mer begränsande språket, ta ord som mormor/farmor=) det har hänt att jag inser när jag diskuterar med mina engelska vänner att engelska språket helt enkelt saknar vissa ord eller inte bryr sig om att göra distinktioner. Men jag håller helt med, det är väldigt ofta jag känner att jag antagligen kunde förklara saker på engelska bättre för att det känns mer "exakt" gentemot svenskan.
Regarding dumbing down the language....most Swedes also do that when we speak Swedish to foreigners. A tip is therefore to try to watch Swedish TV (I can for example recommend "nyheter på lätt svenska" on svt play ), Swedish film, listen to Swedish music, so the vocabulary increases. One who has the right idea about this is Jonathan Rollins (check out his UA-cam channel where he reacts to Swedish classics). He would also be an interesting guest if your new thing is to interview other American UA-camrs in Sweden?
Just revisited what you said here, and if you were referring to my comment, I thought I would clarify what I said. I, by no means, meant to imply that I was "dumbing down" English for Swedish people to understand. I did mean that I as an American in Sweden found that I learned to speak far more clearly and distinctly. By the time I returned to an American high school, I was not using slang or cutting words (e.g., "going to" instead of "gonna"). My correcr English speech was interpreted as a "foreign accent." Any criticism implied was toward Americans lazy speech. As to the TV...well, there was no access to TV when I lived there...leftlen 1959.

@@Nona23parsons My post had nothing to do with yours. Stefan said he "dumbs down" his English when talking to Swedes, which I interpret as avoiding the most complicated words and chooses simpler words. In any case, it's what I do when I speak Swedish with people who don't have Swedish as the first language, so I wanted to point out that the phenomenon happens in both directions. It's in many cases positive that the other person has easier to understand the conversation, but it can be a disadvantage also for those who want to be good at the language, but never gets exposed to the complicated words. Therefore, I suggested that movies, television and music are a way to expose themselves to the words friends don't say in their presence.
@@olsa76 thought that might be the case, but I couldn’t shut my brain off about it! The last thing I would want to do is inadvertently say something that someone might find unpleasant… When I learned Swedish, a friend asked me if I wanted to learn how to speak it correctly… I said yes, and there were times that I couldn’t get two syllables out before she corrected me. However, by the time I left Sweden, people had to be told that I was not Swedish, so it was worth it. It is also true that I never studied Swedish in school, so my spelling is phonetic, and probably quite bad spelling!
As a foreigner who’s currently learning Swedish, I think it’s really important to do it organically too. Some people can’t retain so much new information and it can get a bit overwhelming when I have Swedes trying to teach me 50-100 new words and sentience’s all in one day. I’ve starting saying to Swedes now “please appreciate I’m learning and have come a long way, but I also have a lot else going on and I need to learn other work things too so let’s lay off for a bit”.
To be frank Kimberly, you are picking up Swedish with a dialect. We can hear you live in Skåne.

After living in Sweden as an American for several years, I returned to an American high school. I spoke clearly, distinctly, no slang, somewhat slower than most Americans. Found out later that my friends there initially had referred to me as "the girl with the foreign accent!" I wish I had recorded my speech at that time so that I could hear it now.
Several years? And the going back to HS? How is that possible...where you a kid?

I look forward to living in Sweden because I too am going to be moving for love. However, there are some very mean spirited, bigoted, and hateful people in Söderhamn, so I also have a bit of fear about living in Sweden too. Some of the comments on our Facebook pages have been so mean because we're both men lol.
