This song brings me joy Donna voice brings me joy and my late uncle love her so im here looking at the lyrics because my soul is old and I needed to know exactly what I’m saying I know” love just don’t come easy “ respect to Mrs summers 2024 listening since 2005
So there i was, my senior prom i was shaking my grove thang, to coinscidently while hearing, the song "shake your grove thang" and clapping and twirling my hands and moving sideways, to the left and to the right making sure i was not going to plumit unto the dance floor below..into a sea of HS love cos, i was, alone on the podium, with my extra large bow tie, and my turquoise bell bottom pants. Having a good time class of 1979.
My 1979 senior prom, I was on the dance floor moving like a washing machine agitator (terrible dancer). I was afraid my date was going to start some John Travolta moves and make me look really bad. It's funny now.
For those wondering, the other musicians are backing vocalists Julia Waters, Maxine Willard Waters, and Stephanie Spruill; guitarists Jay Graydon, Jeff Baxter, and Paul Jackson, Jr.; pull guitarist-pedal steel guitarist Al Perkins; bassists Bob Glaub and Scott Edwards; drummer-percussionist Keith Forsey; pianist-keyboardist-synthesist-bassist Harold Faltermeyer; pianist Jai Winding; saxophonist-saxophone soloist Gary Herbig; trombonists Bill Reichenbach and Slyde Hyde; trumpeters Gary Grant, Jerry Hey, and Steve Madaio; and string player Sid Sharp.
My guess is that the flub was kept because someone thought it was "cool." "Leave it that way. It's different." That entire verse could have used another take, in my opinion, because her voice is hoarse at the beginning of it. But I don't think they were looking for a product that was pristine and "perfect." There are a lot of imperfections in the song that could have been "fixed," so to speak. For instance, listen very close when Donna first sings "Let it fill you ... up" (and holds the note for 8 measures). You know the "up" is from a different take. You can hear the edit between "Let it fill you" and "up." The vocals from each take overlap for a millisecond, which is how I would have edited the two separate takes. Blending a vocal when editing makes a smoother transition between takes than a hard cut would. Listen again and see if you can hear the edit (blend).
What I love is the modern concert footage of the Bad Girls album songs and how string and orchestral parts have been written for them. I would have loved to have heard the full symphonic treatment on the album, alas but for the discophobia and return-to-rock crap that was happening in 1979-82. I was there...
The full orchestra is to die for. The arrangements are so sophisticated. And I love watching her maestro, the guy with the wild hair who dances in place as he waves the baton. He must have loved conducting a full orchestra playing those songs with such a good singer beside him. Pure joy! Pure inspiration.
The way she was able to say "Up" without stopping was impressive.
Awesome song! Ms. Donna Summer. Queen of the disco era❤️❤️ forever in hearts
Still after all these years..
Still a pretty song.....
Sad times have to change and we have get old...
Music was just better in my generation
Agreed. This woman could sing and combined with great beats, rhythm made for a musical delight.
All the way😊
I think she initially wrote this one for Rod Stewart but decided to keep it at the last minute so glad you recorded it Donna we miss you greatly

Thank you, Michael! Recorded in an era when real studio musicians worked with real instruments, and the musicians absolutely needed real talent.
Luther Vandross was once part of the "Waters Sisters" - he sings backup on No More Tears.
Luther Vandross sings back up on "No More Tears"? OMG, I had no idea!

I've always wondered why she pronounced "eternity" so strangely at 1:53. You'd think they'd have redone that line while recording.

Turn my brown body white? Innuendo ruled the 70s!

Really crappy that Neil Bogart kept this from being a #1 hit for her.
Yep, a crying shame, I was 17 year old.
