@@anthonynelson6671 Putin thinks Ukraine as nothing more as a country that they "have the right" to "control" because they're the bigger country, that's the world Putin wants to get back, pre WW2 world where the bigger states can just walk all over the smaller states and annex them. In the case of Ukraine it's also more extremely barbaric to see how Putin and Russians in general is denying that ehtnic Ukrainians as a people even exists and that they have the right to a country, which i personally think all people of this world does. Russia is on a genocidal warpath to eliminate Ukraine as a state, as a country and all of Ukrainians and if they can't do that they want to atleast try to once again erase their culture, language and to russify them. They're pure evil imagined.

Issue with that is. Trump is the one who said the EU needs to stop relying on Russian oil and gas. He also said EU and NATO partners need to increase their military spending and stop relying on the USA. Mind you this was when he was still president.
Recently Trump threatened that any NATO partners that doesn't fairly contributes ie arms themselves will not be protected if he is re-elected.
That being said. Trump wasn't and isn't wrong when saying that. The Top German general literally said it will take Germany 5 years to be ready for a war.. Germany the largest economy in Europe... the one that should be best prepared. When I read the State of the Bundeswehr it reads like a horror story. Conservative Americans like me have been ridiculed, bullied and censored for so long that I have spent a great deal of time thinking about why I believe the things that I believe, and can articulate why. Most of the American lefties that I meet have gotten so accustomed to getting their way that they are simply unable to articulate why they believe what they do. After many hours of listening to you, I know that you would be capable of providing a thoughtful explanation of your position.

I agree that it is challenging to have a conversation with a lot of groups on the left.
But be careful when you start saying things like the left are just used to getting their way and then trying to explain groups of people to yourself this way . Because it's just as difficult to communicate with many on the right as well, for the same reasons,it just manifests differently. The short version: we have a lot of stubborn people in the world who are afraid to listen to someone challenge their beliefs and even more afraid to honestly challenge their own beliefs, even if it helps them grow. But who wants to be told they're wrong? I don't.
The way you speak to Vlad is exactly how we all should communicate - able to respect and appreciate each other's opinions. You disagree on a major subject -- Trump. 99% of people won't move past this. I respect that you want to hear his perspective. NOBODY does this left/right/wherever. Vlad has a very unique following.

Trump and the Kuchners have continued doing "business" with MBS ever since, including 2021 trump bringing LIV golf tournaments to his Bedford New Jersey golf course which initiated MBS suing the US PGA for being a monopoly. The PGA anyzed that MBS could bankrupt them fighting this in court, so they acquiesced. I have an honest question. I really hope you pick this up, Vlad.
And let me break it down cartoonishly simple, as you say.
Here in Germany 24 hrs ago pro-Palestine protesters shut down an art performance reading of one of Hannah Arendt´s books on totalitarianism. The performance involved Jewish readers, BiPoc people, so on and so on - in a liberal left museum art-space. The Pro-Palestine protesters claimed broadly everyone there participating was supporting genocide, zionism, should be ashamed for partaking, and - here´s to my question - if they´d even proclaim to be supportive of Palestine or Human rights whatsoever: it´d only be "performative". Hence the rightousness of the demonstrators.
By that logic: where´s the threshold? How can we differentiate whether a political position uttered in a public space is merely performative (like say Putin´s utterances, which is what the protesters make of of the artists etc. involved in the performance) or a genuine position?

    • @anthonynelson6671

Are you asking for a differentiation between that which is performance and that which is protest? Something I always find fantastically difficult to ascertain with Putin is how sincere he is. For instance, when he states that the Western citizen should distrust their governments, is this something he genuinely believes or is this propaganda designed to undermine the West and cause cultural fragmentation and breakdown of trust in instutitions?
It's very, very tempting to believe it's the latter, but frankly at this stage with Putin I find it equally likely he's become isolated enough that he genuinely believes it as part of a broader messianic role he's put himself into, and in this case that he feels that Western governments have lost their way in what it means to be truly Western.
And all of this applies doubly to anything he says about Ukraine: I never have any idea whether it's a very conscious justification after the fact for ice-cold geopolitics or he does genuinely believe all this mystical blut-und-boden stuff.

This is perhaps the best take on the problem of Biden's "oldness" I have heard. The perception is almost more important than the reality (to what degree he has cognative decline) because the perception has practical consequences that are intractible. You are making the mistake of thinking of a population as a single individual. There are factions on both side of politics in the USA that deny election results and like to blame foreign actors. "Trump won the election due to Russian influence operations", was a huge thing on the Democrat side, and we all know about the madness in Jan 6th. nah. its clearly easyer to manipulate Trump (for a foreign power) if you smart.
Biden isnt so personal and he clearly is being managed by team more then Trump.
Trump clearly isnt listening so much for his team or goverment agencies advising him (sometimes even denouncing his own agencies)
he has personality which SEEMS at first as very mad and unpredictable, but its actually very basic.
you only need to push personal Trumps buttons to make him go easy on you. because he is lead by his emotions a lot.
Biden is like a face of a team, while Trump is a dude on his own mission 😂😂

hes acting very emotional and reacting emotionaly to criticism or praises. he clearly is slightly vulnerable in that way because he just needs respect and affirmation.
the best example would be his dealing with the rocket man.
he clearly was like delighted by their meeting and was like: "its all under control" 😂
and now N.Korea got nukes and means to deliver them to USA.
so when he say he will solve things in 1 day, only delusional people would believe that.

There's also a more narrowly strategic aspect the Kremlin might hope to benefit from if Biden gets to serve a second term (which is somwhat related to the "predictable opponent" argument, but not fully captured by it): Controlling the escalatory dynamic and timeline of the war against Ukraine would be a lot harder vis-a-vis Trump, who is subject to significant domestic pressure wrt/ resolving the conflict (one way or another) in a somewhat timely manner. Putin, however, certainly values being able to prolong (or even freeze) the war and up-/down-regulate the intensity of military action in a more granular way - both in terms of preventing NATO/EU membership of Ukraine and his willingness to play the longer game.
