Skins just don't have that charm that they used to have. Icon skins and collab skins are unfortunately the big thing now. With the removal of rarities, skins just don't feel the same anymore.
Icon emotes/skins are so oversaturated the rarity is no longer special.
Also imo, the recent skins just don't have that old charm they used to have, everything looks and feels soulless

Why aren’t people buying outfits as much?
1. Never been a smart financial decision
2. Epic is managing these item shops horribly
3. Epic ignoring community feedback and popular requests
4. Unnecessary additions to the game that worsen quality of life
5. Price increase
6. Toxic business practices- (deleting rarity to mask prices of individual cosmetics)
7. Epic introducing overpriced new cosmetics that nobody asked for
8. Locker UI being extremely inconvenient and a direct downgrade

The locker UI is sooo broken. I have no idea why they took away Rarity, I literally have trouble finding skins. One of the main reasons I stopped buying skins

I feel like most of the skins these days don’t feel as special as they used to and most of them look pretty basic because most rare skins I feel like when chapter 5 started every thing started to go downhill when there’s two new original skins and update and the rest are colabs and when at this point the shop is full of colabs of anime 24/7 and half the time the original skins don’t even come out there’s not a lot to look forward to especially with is the fact that 9/10 times we know the colab a season before it happens
I actually don't mind the collabs as someone who enjoys seeing my favorite character in the game. But it's understandably frustrating when it's the constant thing that releases since not everyone is going to be a fan of the thing they're collaborating with. What's been the most frustrating thing I'd say about this chapter is the fact that there's been people asking for certain collabs such as Street Fighter, Resident Evil, Attack on Titan, Naruto, etc and yet they keep cycling through the same old ones.
I understand that it's probably due to licensing and these companies need to give Epic the okay before they can start selling them again but I imagine someone who is not a fan of anime probably hasn't been too thrilled with these shops as of late considering they keep putting in just Dragon Ball and JJK. Like, Attack on Titan hasn't been back since last year which is crazy.
But regarding the original skins, yeah they could be so much better. I don't know what it is about them lately, they just don't seem as unique or interesting... they just seem kinda... bland? And this battle pass looks like it basically has rehashes of other skins like Megalo Don while cool just looks like Gunnar, Machinist is basically Great Value Jules, Rust is just a rust lord reskin with a metallica shirt,another brite bomber reskin, the power armor which I think is cool personally but obviously not everyone is a fan of Fallout, magneto in the secret skin slot which people are probably so tired of marvel at this point which is only going to be worse because next season is apparently marvel themed... again.
The shop skins though, I can't remember the last time i went out of my way to buy an original skin. They're just not as memorable as they used to be. I think off the top of my head, the only skins I can remember that were originals that released this chapter in the shop are those birds because they were basically meme skins and PJ. Other than that it's been really meh.

Well said Italk, I feel as if the game has been becoming more and more soulless as of late. Hopefully they’ll revert or fix everything with the cosmetics, locker, and shop, because right now Fortnite feels like a shell of what was.
Yeah I just stopped caring like 2 years ago. I don’t even buy every battlepass anymore, it doesn’t phase me like it once did. I don’t go crazy doing every single challenge to get all the cosmetics. I only play the game when I’m in the mood for about like 30 minutes 😭
I like these videos better than the item shop ones honestly. I’d love to see a video in relationship to this one where you talk about which skins are your favorite, and the reasons behind each (details, personal connections etc) and why you feel that skins may just not be as good anymore
We've gotten more collab skins than I can count at this point, so I think a lot of people have just decided to main those over new/original skins, or they've been playing for so long that they've picked a main already and barely wear anything else, or are just so overwhelmed with choices and/or frustrated with the locker UI that they don't bother buying new skins anymore.

I think since chapter 5 started till current season has just been horrible it’s very frustrating
The locker has played a big part in the apathy for new skins. For me to even equip a different skin, I have to weigh that against the apathy threshold of if I want to deal with the Locker UI, and more often than not, I don't want to interact with it. So, the skin has to be very good (like the Titan and Employee skin) to justify my going through the locker to equip and make a preset.
Personally I’ve not even been making presets for the emotes, wraps, or icons because it’s such a hassle to do it and have them match with the skin
The vast majority of the newer original skins are simply put eyesores. They feel like they've been jumbled together and almost don't feel "real". By looking at some of the older skins, you can instantly recognize what they're supposed to be. For Example: Survival Specialist is a soldier, Rapscallion is a thief, Hime is a samurai. The same can't be said for some of the newer skins though, it seems like every new shop skin is some sort of weird futuristic knight dressed in modern clothing.
I used to collect every skin from special rarities like icon and stuff but they keep doing reskins and it’s becoming a waste of money

However I think the people who still enjoy the game can just **adapt** or at the very least bear with it. I hate the new locker ui, does it prevent me from using my skin collection? Not at all lmao.
And even then, we don't wanna hear italk regurgitate the same things he's been parroting since season 2. He focus way too much on skins that don't affect the gameplay rather than the gameplay itself

For me it’s because most skins don’t have lore anymore titan skin sold well because it looked cool and he was part of the lore but that’s just how i see it
The most recent skin I got was Nick, mainly because I missed Batman and until now was not able to yell JUSTICE while fireing a 12 gadge at someone. Now I can do that but Never Back Down.
Also as someone who has been playing since chapter 1 season 2 (I have Psycho Bandit, Omega, etc.) having rare skins isn’t as exhilarating as people may expect.
Other than to say “look at me I got a rare skin” theres not really much of a point. At least to me. I would personally prefer if new players got an opportunity to collect the skins I have.

there is just too many collabs in the item shop at a time and they just barely put any of the original skins in the shop any more. like there is at least always 3 collabs in the shop at a time now and its kind of annoying. they also don't bring back rarer collabs that have been in demand but will put the marvel/star wars and shonen stuff in there every other week. also there have been several times when i want to buy a bundle with an original skin and they just refuse to put the entire bundle in the shop and its frustrating to have to wait for the rest of the stuff to come into the shop (if it even does bcuz some bundles have lobby tracks or loading screens so they are unlikely to just be in the shop by themselves). i also agree with the locker being abysmal. we NEED to annoy them about it at this point cuz its been literally half a year and they still refuse to change it.
This is pretty similar for me, back in chapter 1 I bought every single emote. Emotes are my favorite type of cosmetic, I love Fortnite’s music so much so I’d happily pick all of em up.
Fast forward to chapter 2, cool icon emotes these are pretty cool having real songs, seasons went on and less fortnite original emotes came. And most of the icon emotes I didn’t really like much at all. So I stopped doing that because I didn’t really support how emotes were being handled.
I still buy the icon emotes I like but boy I miss the old style of emotes.

The main reason people don’t care that much about skins anymore is because of the Battle Royale mode being awful right now. The majority of weapons are terrible and the rest are OP, way too much stupid stuff for rotation causing the game to being 90% people running away from fights all game, the lack of big map changes doing the season etc… I could honestly go on and on about this 😂
Actually this is brilliant - we need to feedback them somehow that if the locker sucks, we ain't wanna buying new stuff from the shop. Also: where are the lobby track and why they have been missing in the shop for like half a year already?
I haven't bought skins in a while and mainly for a few reasons. 1. All the skins come back eventually that are original so the artificial rarity is pointless. 2. I dont feel incentivized to buy new cosmetics because collabs and exclusive/limited time only skins are the only ones that may not/won't come back. 3. Other games to buy things for and all the event passes and festival and stuff already take up money.

for me personally i really just can not use the locker. i only play my recently received skins because i cant find anything without the rarities in my locker. the skins are just mixed so badly.
How I see it personally is that you don't need to overcomplicate something or try justifying something when it comes to the cosmetic stuff in this game.
If you like it and want to get it, then do. If not, don't. Ultimately, it's your money, you spend it how you want to.

No idea why they got rid of the rarities in the first place when fortnite is known as a br in the first place, no ones first thought is the festival, lego, or rocket racing. Its always br and rarities gave fortnite that charm that other games like ow would specify the more interesting models.
Fortnite became a second job to try to collect everything and at some point in chapter 5 I stop giving a shit.
I only use presets now because the locker UI is so bad.
My reason for me is that as much as I like that they bring in cross overs tothe game, I am tired of the shop being 90% ads for other titles. Then when the Fortnite original skins are in the shop it seems to be the same rotation of skin you see....for a game with 1800+ skins the very little we see is very sad. This game didn't need other titles to carry them, but for some reason the push for a meta-verse is starting to litter the essence of what Fortnite was.
I stopped caring about skins because I barley use them anymore I been playing since ch1 s1 so just getting skins feels like a waste of money and also emotes that I love are expensive along with jam tracks they are both 500 if Fortnite made v bucks cheeper or skin prices cheaper I wouldn’t mind buying skins again you can use emotes in almost every mode along with always being available but you can’t switch your skin mid match it’s just worth more money buying almost anything other than skins at this point for a player like me who’s sunken years into this game
I don’t buy v bucks with real money to buy skins I just use v bucks from save the world daily missions and if fortnite take the vbuck daily missions away I won’t get skins anymore

I played in 2017 and stopped playing until chapter 4. I never bought a skin in the past but now that I am playing this game more I have been getting skins. I am not as taken aback as the rest of the community on the item shop change since it didn’t really effect me.

Honestly the shops have been awful since OG season and feels like a husk of what it used to be to be, it feels so corporate now and lazy it’s so boring

Why would they ban for merging?
Because in the rules for merging you were only supposed to merge accounts if they were both originally yours. The merging came out because originally Playstation didn't support crossplay so if you played on PC and Playstation you would probably have different skins etc. But since I Talk merged with a friend's account it was against the rules so got banned.
One of the accounts wasn’t his, and the rules of merging prohibited merging accounts that weren’t yours or with one that wasn’t yours originally.

@@Exbeon From what I remember he didn't get banned for it until a couple years after. It had been flagged on his account as suspicious activity and he contacted support about something unrelated a few years later and they noticed it when looking at his account and then banned him.

I own the original j balvin and the original Ariana grande and when they came out with the new skin variants for them I was pretty upset because if I paid for literally that exact skin why don’t I get an edit style for it because I’m not spending 30+$ on 2 skins anymore for these icons because I thought that they would get an edit style just like how the Marshmellow skin got an edit style for free why are they doing this??

i’m still so pissed off about the rarity change and locker ui. It’s actually one of the most useless and horrific changes to this game ever. I still have the hardest time trying to find skins i own because i remembered them by the RARITY and not the NAME. the locker is just a complete fucking mess.

I would say just stop buying anything and stop playing. If you really don’t enjoy this season I haven’t played that much. I’m like level 20 and I’ve been so much happier.
They are relying on collab skins way too much for example the anime/manga skins i love anime but it does get annoying seeing them all the time and its also the fact skins leave every other shop they dont give time for people to buy anything

There are many reason people don't really care anymore, firstly rarity being removed takes away that charm the skins had, Midas being Legendary having that golden background made him feel more important, moreover, the reason cosmetics don't have that charm is because, there nothing to them, they're just action figures now, and people only get hype for skins if they have Storyline importance or the bare minimum of lore to them, like the High stakes club or the fox clan.
In addition to, most people use female skins in the game, which ever since towards the end of chapter 3, are becoming less interesting, they lack appeal in some circumstances or lack diversity in clothing and body type, think, how many times have you seen a skin in a crop top showing off their midriff, not saying this is a bad thing but its kind of overdone, overall I believe chapter 2 season 5 and onwards to chapter 3 had a better pool of skins than chapter 4 and 5 has so far, during that time skins had relevancy and felt unique not to mention had way more diversity in outfits and body types, furthermore skins use to have more things around them that made them memorable, like loading screen dedicated to them telling a story about them (which they only seem to give to Bp and collab stuff now), like Zuri for example which showcases her kickboxing, which without that loading screen most people would have just assumed she was a fighter and nothing else, now you know she is also a kick-boxer meaning she is probably a mixed martial artist.
Items shops are stale and barely change anymore, we went from 30 day rotations to 10 day rotations with the same sections showing up verbatim, not to mention skins that were tied to events like Halloween and charismas are just showing up whenever taking away any anticipation for their return, in conclusion chapter 4 and onwards has felt more niche for skins than before, for ever high stakes club there another 10 generic skins no one cares about.
Lastly, people underestimate how important good Ui is, Fortnite towards the end of chapter 4 and onwards has been making massive changes that make everything feel too corporate and breaks the charm of the game, from smalls things like changing the font and introducing a new locker Ui that looks basic and uninspired, and making it such a pain to navigate the game menu, which they purposefully don't put their own game modes at the top, not to mention that made the Fortnite crew skins have the same things all the time corporatizing them too, we used to get music packs, loading screen, wraps, gliders, and unique edit styles on occasion but its all too predictable now.

Skins also aren’t as good as they used to be and they obviously don’t have any passion behind most of them. Halloween skins, Christmas skins, they all have lot their uniqueness when being brought back at any time of their year it makes no sense. Honestly don’t think epic cares about the skins themselves and this is a reflection of that.
I honestly dont care about shops anymore because they bring out the same 3 skins every shop and maybe once in a blue moon drop a different skin that'll never come back after that night, now its just collabs and emotes that make it somewhat worth looking at which is just sad

That's true! That's the reason i don't buy anymore cosmetics not just în fortnite but in every game. Saving money is verry importat and throwing money on pixels just feels off for me now. I even regret spending so much money on fortnite i wish i never have done that when i'm thinking what could i have bought instead with that money.

I'm glad this is finally being talked about, removing rarities and everything past chapter 2 just made the game worse, all the weapons are overpowered or too weak and never balanced, they are mainly just money hungry and focus it on children.
And not just that all the weapons are the sane to especially design wise they don’t have any flair or spark to them anymore

idk who doesnt buy skins just bc of the locker, but i dont think the locker is terrible i just prefer the one from chapter 3 season 3
