  • Hollywood on Parade was a series of short subjects produced by Paramount Pictures between 1932 and 1934. They showcased the studio's stars both in newsreel-type footage (glimpses of Hollywood figures at premieres, parties, the races, etc.) and in new material such as sketches or musical numbers. The print quality of these isn't the greatest, but nevertheless there's some interesting stuff here. Also note that there's a numbering system associated with these shorts, but because some of the information I've found is conflicting and confusing, I just made up my own numbers to differentiate between them.
In this installment, Judge Benny Rubin presides over several Movieland cases. First of all, Neil Hamilton is accused of something-or-another, but he has no sense of decorum and simply performs a magic trick and splits. The next case involves Fifi D'Orsay and a charge of performing songs and dances that are too hot. This provides the opportunity for Fifi to do a number. Case dismissed. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Mix are then accused of feeding their horses sawdust instead of oats, but they aren't there because they're at home giving a benefit. We get a look at this show and a group performing "When It's Springtime in the Rockies." Finally, Baby Peggy Montgomery shows up, trying to sell Benny tickets for another benefit, and they reminisce.

Pre-code "freedom" is really evident here. Starting at 6:05, the dialog suggests conduct that today would definitely be called child abuse.
Peggy Montgomery was just 13 years old when this film was shot
She was known as "Baby Peggy" in the silent film days, when she rivaled Jackie Coogan as the top child movie star

Peggy sure looks bubbly as a teenager. 'Tis a shame they short-changed on her even during her heyday.
