Once again, SoT takes a band completely off the personal radar and puts an album (or more) on the buying list. Enjoyed the enthusiasm of Grant & Pete discovering a 'new' band for them as much as the discussion of the albums. Appreciate the track by track discussion for such a short catalogue. Makes it even more interesting. Thanks to both for taking the time to make the discovery and bring it to those of us watching.
Standing In The Road is a cover, original by UK band Blackfoot Sue, which was a top 4 single for them here in 1972. (Vardis also did a great cover of this).
A great “new to me” band, thank you Dan and Grant for mentioning The Hunt. My nit pick ranking: 3. Back On The Hunt 2. The Thrill Of The Kill 1. The Hunt
I'm definitely familiar with Dillinger. I'll have to check these guys out. Pete, you should check Dillinger out. Obscure Canadian bands needs to be a series or a show! Great idea Grant! True Myth Heads in the Sky, etc.
Wow! Don't know how I missed them back in the day. I ordered The Hunt debut and Dillinger debut. Going to track down the 2nd Hunt on vinyl as it has a killer cover. Thanks Pete and Grant!
Have you guys done a Chilliwack ranking? They had a wide range of music…hard rock, proggy stuff, pop radio hits in early 80’s. They started in late 60’s! OG Canadian rock band.
Seen the Hunt at The Hunt Club lol in Grimsby Ontario many many moons ago. Another Canadian band that Texas got into back in the day like Moxy and Triumph.
Damnit missed it. Slept very late. Like the Hunt and have been championing them on SoT last few months. They rock. Fell into them through a Paul Kersey rabbit hole first drummer for Max Webster.
So glad you guys did a show on The Hunt; I've been singing their praises for years... (Surprised Martin was not a part of the discussion; I've even emailed him in the past with a suggestion to include them in some type of "Obscure Canadian Rock Acts That More People Should Know About" show 😄!!!) FYI: Paul Kersey was drummer on first Max Webster album, and Kim Mitchell has SMOKIN' guest lead solo on "Time Goes On"... (And if you guys love this group, check out the Santers, and Coney Hatch catalog, you will not be disappointed)... We worship all these Canadian bands here in Buffalo, NY (close to Canadian border👍 )...
Good show! I must get that first album. At that time there was a club in Lake George, NY the Sky Harbor that had bands every weekend and was a regular stop for my friends and I. This one night June 6, 1982 they had The Hunt playing. Lake George being a popular Canadian tourist spot here I think the logic was they'd have a good crowd. I think I had seen their 2nd album in the record racks but never heard it. The first was not released here then. So we saw The Hunt and liked them a lot. Stayed the whole night and they struck me as in the same vein as The Rods, just heavy no frills power rock trio stuff. Later in the year, in September, The Thrill Of The Kill was in stores here and I grabbed one.
Just a clarification with regards to "Time Goes On", as the sleeve notes will corroborate, there is a guest appearance by Kim Mitchell (Max Webster) who plays the lead solo in the mid section and throughout the whole song...not to denigrate Paul Dickinson in anyway I hasten to add because yes, the majority of the ferocious guitar playing on The Thrill of the Kill, is of course him, a great guitar player.
Hey Pete. Do you think you will ever do a Top 10 Tangerine Dream album ranking with Ken at some point? I know you’re busy but just a thought. I’m looking forward to the Prog Seat show coming up!

Was all 'gunned' up after the Jo Jo Gunne episode only to find that great set with all the albums is now seemingly impossible to find, but looks like I'd be able to 'Hunt' these ones down more easily! Love Pete's optimism that a 2 album show would be 'quick'...there's no quick with Grant on board (and we wouldn't have him any other way) - on that basis am setting aside 8 hours for when the Poco episode eventually drops! ;-)

It's the Import Tax...😎Watching the Olympics/Canadian soccer game on tv recently there was a great shirt in the stands: "Bring Your Eh! Game" - I want one!
Yeah really good band (despite the name) - one of the better ones to come out of Canada. Moved from a proggy/psyche style to a more AOR-type sound. Their first four IMO (the debut being the best) were OK-to-pretty-good but by 1975's Rockerbox they were firing on all cylinders. That is until I recently got their third album All Over You which is really good. A mix of styles, mostly country rock kinda Creedence-like. Overall their 70's releases are pretty high-level rock - Dreams Dreams Dreams being my least fave. With Lights from the Valley there were big lineup changes & a more AOR-type sound. I think with the 80's their sound changed again but not for the better (IMO). There And Back Live (2003) isn't bad... You might also like the 60's psyche band The Collectors, Bill Henderson's pre-Chilliwack band (two pretty good late 60's albums). Then there's UHF, his 90's post 'Wack band (I don't have anything by them)...Other relate bands: Skylark (70's Canadian pop), The Hans Staymer Band (1972's Dig A Hole is good), Straight Lines (two early 80's albums), Prototype (s/t 1983 album), 451° (s/t 1981)...And if you keep followig the related rabbithole you get three other excellent 70's Canadian bands Hammersmith, Crosstown Bus (ties to BTO/Union/Ironhorse) & Painter plus the late 60's 49th Parallel
@@webbvandiver9139 I was surprised to see that Brian MacLeod was in the band. I really like his band Headpins and enjoy the later Chilliwack albums. I need to investigate their early catalogue as well.

Back On The Hunt is a really good album. The Thrill Of The Kill much less so (a little too much towards 'cheese metal') - for me anyway. Pretty lame cover of "FIre". I don't own their s/t debut. I think with an even better singer (not that they're 'bad' just not world class - I believe most members sang) this band could've really been something... Based on that my ranking: 1.
