    In the early 1980's we went out of that same road end and went up to Lamarck Lakes and then cross country and over Lamarck Col, down Darwin Canyon to the PCT.

    Hello my outdoors friend, sincere thanks for sharing this beautifully filmed video. Your video brings back some very pleasant memories from decades ago. Four of us hiked into Paiute Pass for a three day two night adventure. We caught an abundance of Golden trout.
    The best hike ever. You folks take care and stay safe and healthy. 🤗

      Sounds like an amazing 3-day escape! Which lake(s) did you all fish for the goldens? What type of bait? I’ve been watching several fishing channels lately and am thinking of incorporating more fishing while on my day hikes / overnights. Take care, Ronald!

    Absolutely beautiful. Very well done. I like especially that you're stretching your videos out, allowing more time to savor the beauty of the landscape you're in. Can't wait to see your upcoming Sonora vid if you're still going back up later this summer that is. The stills and slow pans at the end were excellent too. All 'round brill. Cheers!

    Nice idea for an easygoing one-nighter. Paiute is probably the most mild gateway into the backcountry. Shepherd, Mill Creek and Pine Creek are the grunts. You should get one of those fuzzy covers for your microphone so the wind doesn’t drown out your voice. Hope your wife was OK. She seemed subdued.

    Great video, loved the addition of the still photos at the end. You two are so very fortunate to have such beautiful opportunities for hiking relatively close to home. Thanks for sharing! And one of these days we need to learn how your wife got her nickname.

    Another story: My future wife said she was interested in hiking and backpacking. I had her take back in the day BMTC Course by the Sierra Club. She hiked a couple of times, went scuba diving, and even did two skydives. A year after we got married I asked her why she wasn't interested in hiking anymore. Silly boy me, she just wanted to marry me, LOL. Since then I've hiked and traveled to Europe alone.

    You drove up from LA and slept at 11,000 feet the same day? Seems to this flatlander that'd be asking for an altitude headache, but you did it.

    I did that hike with my best bud years ago. I was going to treat him to a wilderness BBQ by bringing rib eye steaks, salad, corn on the cob. The steaks I bbq'd on a packable grill. I went ahead of him, set up camp, but sadly he developed a migraine headache (we had acclimatized at the trailhead the night before). I wound up eating the steaks by myself. Next day I hiked solo to the pass and back. The following year I did the trans Sierra hike from North Lake to Florence Lake on the west side. Didn't see a human for two days, loved it.

    Great entry point to some really special places. As an aside, it looks like your wife's backpack could be better fit. All things being equal, load lifters at 45 (rather than flush against the straps), and the straps (loosely) on the shoulders should distribute the weight better and make for a more comfortable ride, especially on longer trips.

    I love that you get out there and get after it even for an overnighter. What 2-3 day trip do you recommend from the West side for someone just getting back into backpacking after 25 years. I was thinking Jenny Lakes. Do you feel that's a safe spot for solo female? I can go with the hubby but want to try solo.

    • @Sheety33
      @Sheety33  4 роки тому +1

      Anywhere in Yosemite is very safe. I see a lot of solo female hikers nowadays. Jennie Lakes is great and most likely you would have several other people camping at the lake each night.

    • @jackelliott1017

      The Jenny Lake to Weaver lake is a great loop and should have plenty of water in the lakes this time of the year, bring a fishing pole if you like to fish.
