This is a remake of Jungle Falls from Diddy Kong Racing built to take advantage of Mario Kart 8 mechanics like tricks, antigrav, and gliding as well as a complete graphical overhaul. The look of the track was overhauled to make it actually look like a jungle since...you know, it's called Jungle Falls.
The track goes over 3DS DK Jungle. It can technically go over other slots, but the torches in the temple and the light shafts in the jungle won't be rendered.
There's still a number of issues with lighting which I am largely unable to resolve. It seems regardless of how I set up the area environments nothing seems to actually affect it correctly in-game hence why Mario is lit up even when going through the tunnel portion. I probably won't resolve this any time soon as I'm honestly kind of sick of dealing with it and these custom tracks in general until a better way of handling environment editing is made. Basically, don't expect another MK8 custom track any time soon.
Let's get the sure-to-be frequent comments out of the way. If you comment any of these, I'll just delete it.
"The lighting looks bad" - This is already covered in the description, so unless you've got an easy fix for it don't bother pointing it out. I know.
"Why does it say 3DS in the title card" - This isn't easy to adjust at all and it goes over 3DS DK Jungle due to the objects used, so it's stuck with the 3DS title card.
"Why don't you replace the coins with bananas?" - Replacing the coin object in any non-crossover course would replace the coin object in EVERY course. Also, things would get weird considering there's a banana item already in Mario Kart.
I get that seeing tons of similar comments must get annoying, but is deleting comments the way to do it? I doubt it is your intention, but it really looks like you are just stifling criticism.
@@winxwest2964 The point of it is it's not criticism I need to hear if I'm already aware of it. This is mostly born out of in the past me having a comment or a description that explains "I didn't do x because y" and then 70% of the comments were "WHY DIDNT YOU DO X?"
As for deleting comments, IDK, it is my channel and I can do what I want and that's how I want to handle it.
@@SquadalooW. Thanks for another awesome track. It looks beautiful!
Dude, I don't see any problems with the lights. Are you talking about a specific section of the track or the entire track's lighting? Either way I think the light was perfectly recreated. Although it could be me just being dumb lol.
The lighting on the characters is off, it's unnecessarily harsh outside and there's a non-existant sun shining on them indoors.a@@brunolike8631
Super nostalgic for this track, happy to see its recreation! Also, love how that shortcut works at the end.
Dude your tracks always impress me! I love how you’re able to take tracks from an old N64 game and turn them into masterpieces.
He ate that. Im feeling tge jungle fever rn
I love your DKR tracks, my favorite racing game of all time so to be able to play these remastered tracks is a dream come true! Ty for the hard work
This looks amazing!! Actually looks like an official track :D
I remember playing this track in DKR DS it was one of my favorite tracks
And you did an great work about remaking it in MK 8
Stunning as always!
Wow, if I didn't know any better I would've thought this was from the booster pack! This is incredible!
As faithful and amazing as always!
One of the games that were poorly used, I thought it could have continuity but anyway, the track was amazing, I wonder what the Star City track would be like
Honestly what Nintendo might do considering Rare isn't Microsoft only anymore, and there's not a lot of tracks left to be recreated in the franchise.
It would be nice in the future if you did Darkmoon Caverns.
I was thinking the same!
Darkmoon Caverns has historically been one of the top candidates for me to remake, but I haven't done it because I'm not sure graphically how I'd handle the double loop section. Gameplaywise I have some ideas which would probably be controversial because they'd be big changes but I'd want it to preserve the mind blowing nature the original had on me, and two basic loops doesn't do that in a game with antigrav.
@@Squadaloo I see, well take your time of working on that track, aside of the other ones.
Que tan genial hay que ser para hacer pistas tan hermosas 😭
cool!!
hey squadaloo, there's a setting that enables dynamic shadows in track studio. In 8dx it's under render info and it's called dynamic depth shadow. When enabled, it casts a shadow, visible to the player, that also affects the lighting. The tradeback with this is that it casts a hard shadow, thus not having the smooth edges of the baked. I've used it on my gpdx dk jungle port if you want to check it out
keep in mind that you can set the sun direction to be a little off compared to the one of your bakes, so that you can both have the player shadowed and the soft baked shadows
Thanks, I'll test it.
@@Squadaloo no problem. Unfortunately I couldn't get the static ones (the ones that only affect the player) to work
very nice track! 👍
Can you get to the top part of the entrance of the temple before you get to the bridge?
No, it's just for show. I thought about having a glider ramp get up there accessable via mushroom but I figured there were already plenty of shortcuts and alternate routes for such a short track. Plus it would have made adding the gravity paths a nightmare.
That reminds me, is there some code in the game to set a track to be a "crossover track" and so have access to alternative currency, in order to bypass the problem with the bananas?
No, they just use entirely separate objects
Awese work! The toches issue you mentioned, even if you use the appropriate course.ptcl the torch is invisible? Weird lightning issue, I cant really tell why it happens
Not sure, I just use it in the DK Jungle slot and it works. Not sure about the ptcl file.
@@Squadaloo because you are using other course ptcl, if you put dk jungle ptcl on other slot it shluld work
@@RoGamer97 I misunderstood, I thought you were saying you tried it and they were still invisible even with that file while in another slot.
