I keep checking to see if they’ve added more features to the wave editor for exactly that reason. The more we can do inside the box, the less we have to switch back and forth. I’d like to do a challenge to see how good off a level I can create by starting with a new project and only use in engine tools. Modeling, materials, audio, everything without switching programs.

Dang, I missed my shot at commenting first. Great stuff as always!
Note On and Note Off are two special MIDI messages. Note On is fired when you hit a key on your keyboard and it is basically a message comprising MIDI pitch and velocity, Note Off is also a MIDI pitch and velocity, but the velocity is 0. It is obviously used for telling the MIDI device that the key is released. They are meant to be used with envelopes, so if you connect your MIDI note trigger to an ADSR node, you can get note durations as in the MIDI file. Optionally, you can also scale the velocity to change the sustain level of your envelope.

Thanks for showcasing this new release which hopefully comes soon (from what I've heard somewhere March probably). Some of these features are going to make my life a whole lot easier!

The Algosyntax MidiEngine already has a bunch of this functionality. I was really hoping for a dynamic MIDI player; if they're going to start supporting static files they might as well do that too.

There is a step sequencer that was added in the dev build too but I haven't quite figured out how to properly integrate it yet (which is why it wasn't included in the video) but I'm hoping it'll allow developers to create situations where the player is creating midi files on the fly.
As for the plugin you mentioned, I've not used it but have looked into it and having a free option built into the engine will server most purposes vs a $40 plugin. That being said, there may be features in the plugin that are better than what Epic is including but I can't say for certain at this point.

Midi support is interesting, but im wondering on how it can be used in videogames. Can we create note puzzles more easily now?

I'll put out a dedicated MIDI tutorial once the update is public in the launcher but I can think of a couple use cases off the top of my head. For example: creating a midi track to accompany a .wav version of a song so that the Midi notes/channels can trigger in-game events using the MetaSound output watcher function. This could be used to control lighting in areas where DMX control doesn't fit or even for spawning objects like buttons/bars for the player to hit much like guitar hero. This way, you wouldn't need to build long scrolling maps for each song. Instead you could set up a spawning play field and just drag/drop midi files in for the songs and it'll automatically spawn notes.
It's also important to note that Unreal Engine has evolved past more than just game development so there are potential uses in film/tv production as well.

I thought m.output from wav is enough, but it will be more comfortable with midi)

Is there any way to access the data streams the meters are outputting as readable values?

MIDI input had official support towards the end of UE4 just not MIDI files.
