Prof.Surendra Kumar Mathur stands tall as one of the pioneering GI surgeons of India. Coming from very simple beginnings he rose in the ranks because of sheer hard work and determination. He is one of the foremost surgeons from the western India to put GI surgery on the Indian map. He has trained a generation of surgeons who occupy key positions in the field of GI surgery in India and abroad. Of the many things he is known for, his work in the field of portal hypertension stands apart. His keen interest in the field of liver transplantation is known all over and presently he is working hard in promoting organ donation in the western part of India.
