The constant comparison to TEMS and ARYA is annoying. Here are the facts. From a numbers point of view, Tyla out performed them hands down on her album - hence the awards. Go run the numbers yourself. The numbers do not lie. TEMS and ARYA have stuck to their genres while Tyla took a massive risk to branch out from traditional African music. She could have lost her entire African audience - But the risk paid off. Tyla's songs are more internationally accepted and catchy and so she has breached the barriers that others have not. To simply "cancel" her talent due to the fact that she is light skinned and pretty is disgraceful behavior. Dark skinned people are losing sympathy by the day as the world watches the abhorrent bullying of Tyla. Yes, it started with the term "coloured" but I believe that word has made things easier for mixed race people in South Africa. Chloe and Halle are American (obviously they are supported). TEMS and Arya identify as black, because they are (let us not start that conversation again) , they have not commercially broken into America and internationally the way Tyla did and they did not win a BET award against other American artists. So long they stay in their place - They will continue to be supported. Tyla has broken barriers like never seen before and is now the biggest African Female artist of all time. It is ruffling feathers. Now the only thing that they can say because she is beating their asses is "Oh she is not afrobeats", so that she can get kicked out of the category and give them a chance to win. Fact is - Tyla had the biggest album of the year from an African artist. Simple as that.
