I love that the original owner still had their DS, that’s so sweet!! I love to have an episode where we get the full story and the original owner still has their prize, it’s such a happy ending.
Honestly, who wouldn't keep something like this? Both look absolutely amazing, I actually kinda wish they made an official DS based off of them. The winner sure is a lucky guy.

Holy heck, man. I live pretty close to *Kungsbacka* and *Nintendo Bergsala* and have visited their promotional events there from time-to-time since the late GameCube days. Really cool to have such a personal connection with one of these episodes.
6:38 - Might as well also post the correction that "nintendo-se.com" is just the old url, as it has been moved to simply "nintendo.se", since _at least_ sometime before Skyward Sword's release if I recall.
I live really close to Kungsbacka as well but I never got around to visiting Bergsala. What's it like? I remember reading they have a museum you can visit during weekdays. Edit: Thinking about it, isn't it possible for one of us to go there and ask them about the second DS? They seem pretty open and also have an active twitter account.
Well, they definetively have a museum. I know that for sure. But I'm more acquainted with the demo/exhibition hallroom where the set up, say, the stalls for Nintendo Switch games (1-2 Switch, ARMS, Splatoon 2, MK 8 Deluxe and BotW). That "Switch" event was very pleasant, I have to say. (www.nintendo.se/nyheter/294-nintendo-switch-pre-launch-event - You'll find vlogs from the event if you google 'Nintendo Switch Pre-launch event') That time the place was filled with Nintendo enthusiasts lining up to see and try out the console, the employees I met were all passionate about working there and showing off the games and sharing Nintendo trivia. I'll clarify that I visit just very occasionally, so my memory starts to blur a bit about details on layout and such. In addition to them (I think) renovating the lounge in between my latest two visits. - But I'd wholeheartedly recommend giving it a visit when given the chance. (Men om du ska besöka det i samband med event, så kom lite tidigare än vad du tror att du borde. Kön in i hallen den dagen för Switch-eventet... Wow. Nyckelbandet man fick behålla med biljetten på var dock rätt så häftig. Har den stolt hängandes från min hylla fortfarande.)
This is one of the coolest endings to a video he’s made. The winner of the contest didn’t fall out of his hobbies! In fact, he made his own game studio! It’s really cool he still has a 12 year old DS still. That research was also really well done. Good all around, guys!
Yeah, and apparently his studio is the one that made the game Year Walk for Wii U! The site that fleece had linked to his youtube has videos on it along with other game stuff! Link if you want to check it out ^^ ua-cam.com/users/simogogames
What's weird is that most people would brag about their prizes or even turn them around for a huge profit, but because people are surprisingly humble and quiet about these types of prizes, we never really know much. Which reminds me of a recent Nintendo Switch prize before the official release of the console. It was with a clothing company called Uniqlo. They and Nintendo held a T Shirt design contest where the 1st/2nd place winner would receive an NX (Nintendo Switch) signed by Shig Miyamoto... there was a twist though... ...this console is a *prototype* ... It could be something we have not seen before or at least somewhat different than the official console. The contest ended all the way back in August 31st 2016! And the release of the clothes was way back in May 2017.... Nearly a year before the release of Switch! The Grand Prize Winners were in Japan, Takashi Kawazoe and Shino Yamazaki. How I wish to see this Switch and the autograph engraved...
Oh wow, these designs make the original bulky DS look really cute! lol By the way, a obscure design that many people never knew about and had little info on it with just one picture of it, but not only did you find the origins, but also the owner who took new pictures of unseen parts of it. That's just one of the many things that make me really like this channel, the amount of dedication in this researches, it's really amazing.
Amazing to locate something this obscure! Makes me wonder about the corporate structure of Nintendo's international branches. Sounds like Bergsala probably did a lot of cool promotional stuff I've never heard of.
Bergsala isn't owned by Nintendo. In various regions of the world, Nintendo partners with local distributors to sell their stuff in countries they don't have a branch in. Bergsala is just Nintendo's Scandinavia distributor. Though I'm pretty sure that Bergsala has done a number of cool promotions
Although not completely conclusive, I think the American super game boy2 episode has been the best. (this one and the Douglas jay captain falcon tied on second place)
I remember participating in the contest for the winter DS. I already had a DS at the time, so I told one of my friends I would give it to him if I won.
Am I the only one who doesn't find it surprising he kept it? Its a very exclusive DS, Not like he would just throw it away. who the hell wouldn't keep it?
Thank you again for doing this! I've final exams this week, so it's also a good pick-me-up :) It's great to see that the original winner still has the console, and in such good condition!
That's really nice how Simon kept the DS after all these years, and especially since from what I gather from his site, he's still doing art for games. Winning that thing must've been a huge confidence boost back then, so it's actually no wonder that he kept it as a reminder. As an artist myself, winning an award or being recognized for artwork is something that makes all the time and effort worth it. ^^
It fucking warms my heart to see that guy kept his prize DS in perfect condition for so long. Makes me miss some of my childhood videogame possessions, oof my heart.
I was biting my nails and tapping my foot for a new video knowing how hard and stressing it must be to put even a single one out, but this was worth every second of patience.
The fact that he still keeps the DS and it is still in great condition. But man that DS looks great. And apparently the guy has made a lot of good games and is a game developer!
I LOVE how you detailed not only the research but how you went about it so others can do the same. Very considerate and made for a quality video. So well made!
God I love this channel. The topics are always completely unheard of and with all the in depth research you do I’m never left unsatisfied. Keep it up man.
i’m crying! i remember seeing a picture of that ds when i was young and very interested in animal crossing themed customs because i wanted my own. i really wanted that ds and i’m so glad the guy who won it still has it! great work!
The Animal Crossing case is super beautiful... But can we talk about the kick-ass Scott Pilgrim Gameboy custom at 2:20?! That art is amazing!! Edit: Also, I thought the second place winner in the contest had a great AC character design(also the first time I've ever heard the words "Insanely Delicious" to describe headphones), but nonetheless, I'm glad that Simon won the contest.
I deadass subbed to this channel after lurking this channel for months, and definetly after this video. Your dedication of finding once "lost" media is inspiring 😊
I don't believe it ever happened. I think it was more of a translation/information error from the Console Database. They also made no mention of the trivia contest for the Winter one so they probably have some wrong info on the site in places.

i just did a giant marathon of all your videos, and they're SO cool! you do so much research, and you don't just reiterate what you read. you actually get in contact with the animators of animations/animes, the creators of plushes, employees at companies, and contest winners! it's crazy, and you've definitely earned a subscriber here. (also, unrelated, but i just realized i had seen your video about the webkinz killer before, and didn't even realize it was you, haha!)
Have you heard about the n64 Kirby air ride prototype shown off along with Mario 64? It was shown off in spaceworld but no one talks about it and everyone usually talks about the beta version of Mario 64
Man this video forcefully made me remember that those DS:es exists. I remember that I saw a picture of the DS:es when I was little and I remember wanting them. I used to hang out a lot on the Swedish Nintendo forums back then(RIP that place), I can't say for sure but they were probably mentioned there and that's how I probably got to know about them. I'm not 100% sure though but it's most likely place where I would have seen it, that or some game magazine... Honestly kinda wild seeing Bergsala and such mentioned in a video and explained what they do.
i love these mystery videos man, its so cool to find someone who can solve awesome mysteries like this! every time you post another mystery video i get SO EXCITED cause when you upload these, i never know what its gonna be, like it could be about a tv show, lost media, and video game stuff like this! its really nice that i've found a youtuber i love. thank you for giving me such a wonderful experience with your videos
I wish I had something cool like this. The coolest video game related thing I've done is play that one Battle Star Online game. I don't know the exact name, but it's one of the rarest games on GameCube. I don't own it, someone I know does and we played it together.
OMG! I'm from Sweden, born in 2000. And I've got some magazines where they were talking about this specific contest! Damn. I dunno how to describe it, it's just so cool, that someone out there would be talking about this. Animal Crossing is my favorite gaming franchise lol
Considering that most of these cases seem to be obscure rumors, or intentionally misleading photoshops, it's great that not only did this turn out to be real, but the guy who actually won the DS sent new pictures of it. Great find.
Woah that's some diligent research! :o also it's really cool one of the systems could be tracked down to the owner and they've taken great care of it too.
I'll have to dig it outta one of my boxes in storage. I remember it came in a plain white box with Japanese instructions. It was part of a contest at the local mall. Your so lucky the person who won it is so good at the style of art,or some person who is most likely impossible to contact would’ve gotten it and we would’ve never seen anything of it again
it’s really shocking that the guy who won the wild world ds also is part of the game company that made the pretty popular sayonara wild hearts! everything is truly connected..
I think this was a more common thing in these days. I remember dutch magazine power unlimited doing a contest where you had to photoshop your own design and one lucky winner would win. I actually participated. The winner had made cartoon drawings of the magazine staff. I have googled this and cant find any trace of it any more though. But I think at some point digital airbrushing was a nintendo of europe thing they did for promotional purposes. And the way they rolled it out was through magazines and journalism.
I love that the original owner still had their DS, that’s so sweet!! I love to have an episode where we get the full story and the original owner still has their prize, it’s such a happy ending.
Lol I was about to say the same thing.
SPOILERS!
I mean that custom designed DS is so cute, I wouldn't trade it for anything else
I was so surprised when he said he still had it
I'd have kept it too lol
and it’s in amazing condition, like it’s never been played. he really took good care of it!

Maaan you are awesome, really. Look at this incredible work of yours!
Every time I see these wild world ds's I get mad jealous
AMAZING VIDEO AS ALWAYS!! i was totally at the edge of my seat.
Wow your awesome, I can't believe you actually found the guy and got new pics. This is why i subbed even if a mystery isn't solved at least it's an interesting quest. Keep up the amazing content!
that was probably the best end to something i've ever heard
What a cool story! You did such a great job finding all this stuff.
Keeps rewatching this video hoping that one of them will appear in my lap.
So impressed by this video and that the owner still had his DS (and in such good condition!). And those research Skills - Instant Sub! (y)
Wow!! Congratulations on your success on finding the complete info for it!!
And the way they rolled it out was through magazines and journalism.
i'm glad my country brings something positive for a change
Nice paintjob. Cool find
Finally a search that has true results. What amazing research.
These searches are so complicated I love it.
