I used to almost live on this train for decades including for a few years when I lived right by the Villa Park station. Would never live in VP now though!
they actually fixed up villa park put in new crossing gates and now have people crossing with gates as for the neighborhood not much has changed since I moved in the 90's
its not that bad above st Charles road is by the jewel and police past the library too about the funeral home that is still nice area I used too live on Wisconsin ave between kenelworth and school st and its still nice area but by the metra is still shady with all the apartments I used too hang out and railfan back when it was still CN&W by Jefferson highschool is still nice but the area by the pond is ghetto
@@staintedcards Just gotta be careful in general in and around Chicagoland. On the West Line, the worst places are still the West Side before Oak Park/River Forest, then Maywood.
A super nice video. I often rode this line into Chicago when I attended Elmhurst College. The line was called the C&NW. Chicago & North Western, with the bold yellow and dark green colors. As I recall and observe in your video the train still runs "English style" on the tracks
What year was the 25th Ave. overhead bridge constructed? I retired in 2013 from the UP as a hogger and do NOT remember anything about the 25th Ave. bridge! My, how things change!
Correct. Looking at an old map shows several more tracks in that curve i forget how many.. I've been on that line now called Rockwell well over 100 times over the years. There's a few buildings and some right of way that shows signs of quite a heyday in the past. For the most part nothing is really there. During my career i've seen CSX dark territory operations.Twenty sixth street n interlocking ripped up. Brighton Park signal Shanty disappear all the way up to now with CTC installed on CSX and NS mains and, more mains installed (reinstalled) starting at 22nd street off the BN.
Golly, no stopped freight train at Oak Park? THAT'S unusual!
Ahhh., yeah... i know.

Why would you never live in Villa Park?
PRHILL9696 Oh wow. I know nothing about VP, I always thought it was another Elmhurst!

Left at 16:48 is Western Avenue station and is the line to and from Milwaukee.
Milwaukee, Minneapolis, eventually, Seattle!

A holdover from C&NW days. I remember seeing trains running "left handed" when I was a Seaman Recruit at Great Lakes Naval Training Center.
That was GREAT!!!!!!

16:45 the Panhandle Route used to come in from the right side, right? Someone told me that would explain why there is a PRR signal tower right there.

Welcome to Chicago
Nice video!
What year did the UP add the 3rd rail between Elmhurst and JN?
Great trip, wish I Could take it, Geoff ?K.
If you're even just a casual railroad enthusiast, you gotta make yer way to CHICAGOLAND!
What is that annoying clicking sound throughout this video? Why is it the driver doesn't whistle for the rail/road crossings earlier in the video?
Doug Borrett p
Because this line is entirely a quiet zone. Engineers are not permitted to blow the horn through the crossings except in an emergency.
Mechanical bell clapper
Look for the " no train horn" signs by the crossings.
C&NW Chicago line.
Dead bug right in the center of the frame. Bad luck.
Turn off the !*#@! turn signals!
