i have found that all the flying styles on the interwebs i like your style flying the best. i been flying a year with a tinywoop and just built my first 5" and started freestyle flying about a month ago. my flying is the flow style it seems..or i like it the best. looking foward to more content..if you even read these comments .im just a poor broke bastard from the mississippi delta...peace out

Watched so many PID tuning videos, but this one made sense in such a way that I now have a repeatable approach to tuning rather than randomly screwing with numbers..... thanks for the vid!

I agree, stock PIDS are so good today, starting your tune from the stock PIDS makes it easier and faster than lowering I & D at start. My thoughts and curiosity makes me wonder that with the stock PIDS being so good now days, wouldn't turning off the notch filters give a pilot the same locked in feeling, rather than going thru a whole tune session? I ask this because I have gotten so used to flying around the quirks, that I haven't even tried removing my notch filters yet. Mahalo for your input, "Blue skies and french-fries to you." Aloha!

I really wish betaflight and the others had walk through option which basically just asks you key details of your quad, and in turn it enters the best settings for what you have. Size of quad, size/kv of motors, size and pitch of props, type of FC (it should already know this), size of lipos, total weight, how aggressive you fly? etc, etc.. Seems like it could generate much better, if not ideal stock PIDs by doing this.

I will tell you about Hungary. I've tried your PIDs and have to say terribly good :)
It is true that my assembly has nothing to do with your stuff (Fc, regulator, motors) but terribly good.

loved that uggghhhh wipe transition :P I terribly need to buckle down and just try tuning already. Stock BF pids have been plenty great, but I can definitely tell I'm missing out on the crispness. 2:52 OH THANK GOD!! okay, I'm a lot more excited about this PID tuning stuff now. **Pause break to put the lipos on the charger** ...fuck Drew, this video is PERFECT!!! Exactly what I needed!!! Even funnier when I first saw this I said "didn't Stingy already do this" which you mention, but your method is exactly what I wanted to do. Sometimes you just need a little reassurance you aren't going to do yourself more harm than good... 6:35 EXACTLY!!!!!! This is the point I get stuck on and just go fly instead. 10:03 whooosh :P hehehe 11:10 YES!!! big issue I have, you can actually tune that out!!! OMG

Love the video and channel! It would be awesome to have a troubleshooting guide. Something like a lookup table where it says the issue and what PIDs to adjust. Then maybe some simple manuvers that help you illuminate those specific pid terms. You mention in the video that you usually drop P if you see jello in HD footage. This would translate to, ISSUE: Jello in HD cam; FIX: Typically lower P. Just a thought that maybe the brains at RR could put together...

Hey bro ive been lovin your motors, i replaced a bell on a motor with a regular hypetrain bell and it works great, but the only thing is i was just hovering regularly and a motor acted up and burnt out, turns out the coating on one of the coils shorted out, its all good tho cuz ima use a diferent motor and it was about time to upgrade my esc's to 30A. Apperently i just got unlucky because its a rare thing that they have heard of.

I see you had the same twitches, and movements that I have been struggling with. Quad feels great, but my HD is horrible. I'm going to chalk it up as cold temperatures, and electronics not coping well with that. Time to get a whoop and stay inside until the temps stay above freezing. Good show as always, Drew!

If you haven’t figured it out yet, you’re going to love the low rpm thrust you get on a 6in quad. I find I’m able to wait longer to pull out of a dive, and do it without having to go WOT. Now if only there were as many prop options as there are for 5in!

Oh my god, Drib, this title so what I had in mind for a while to ask you.
As it gets colder I feel the space to fly gets smaller and smaller, so I REALLY wanted to ask you the following for a while:
How do you tune for tight spaces, when you just don't have these long lines to ride along.....?
I know that's not something an American is really gonna be used to, you know, because you guys have so much space, but of course you're gonna fly spots with little space to maneuver too, so, how do you adjust your tune for that?
Cause I feel like when I switched from F1 to F4 it's now way more heavy and 'spacey', you know....
Guess I should start with D setpoint weight but maybe you have a certain way to go about adjusting for "tightness".?
Love your Vids Drew, best wishes for you and your loved ones.

Mine is dli.g something very strange. It's kinda like prop wash but it's definitely my motors skipping or studderimg like they stop while in the middle of a role and hold for a millisecond and start and stop until it finishes its role . I have messed something up bad and I csnt figure out what it is. I was watching one of your videos on rates and was wanting to just straight up copy them and I didn't know that some of the settings were not what you were showing off and I think that they were just way off . Like your rates were right but like feed forward and stuff so I copied it all from what you showed on screen and I didn't Wright down the stock pids so now idk what or where to start at to fix it. Tidwell tried to help me some the other day but I think it just made it worse because not I'm having a bad prop wash problem on top of the shaky jerks . Swarm touched on it for a sec on one of his videos but not enough to help me out. Please help if you know what I'm talking about . Thx man and keep up the good work. And put out some trick tutorials too on putting together tricks to help with flow. Your really good at making everything so smooth . Total bad ass. Later.

Enjoy the sunshine in Ca, it's been grey here for weeks, turned white again last night, hope that you get the weather to rip. As to your criticism re the need for "perfect " tune...... if your technique flying was like a mosquito on crack it would be improbable but my observation on your vids is you do a fine job with either the tune or a masterful job with the editing. Say "hi" at the west coast for me, and don't forget the tacos and tamales!

I have been thinking a lot about photography racing drones, and how many photographers should switch to using them instead of exclusively photography type drones for their shots. You comment on flying differently to compensate for some stability issues instead of tuning them out,, I think that a photographer would LOVE to use vibration, throttle torque, etc. As photgraphic effects.

Proportional, Integral, Derivative gain. It's simply an algorithm that takes in sensor measurements, compares the actual state (i.e. angle, position or speed) to the reference(i.e. desired state) then calculates error. with the error it can calculate what input signal to give the drone should be. if you base the input on just a function of error then it is just a proportional controller, but if you include the rate of change of the error and the sum of the total error over time you can make a more robust controller. the PID values (or gains) represent how important each of these error terms are to stabilizing the system. finding these values is alittle bit of an art

Excellent..thanks for taking the time! Content request for early 2018. Custom 3D printing parts for my qwad start to finish and edit/export quality HD video for UA-cam! Mine suck so bad even my family can't watch them.
