►Tips for the plane:
CG 85mm (Stall test: do it in ALT!!! it spirals and you loose ~30m)
easier handlaunches with slightly REAR CG? but better (more stable) flight with slightly FWD CG. Or just stick with the stock 85mm!
3300mah Lipo (346gr): 136gr in nose
7000mah LiIon (409gr) + Gopro7: 25gr in the back
set motorbrake to MAX:
start ESC with FULL THROTTLE (without prop)
wait for music, then first beep (brake) go MIN THR. and MAX THR again
here wait for 4 beeps (max brake) and again confirm with min/max thr.
PNP Setup is good - 8x5 Prop - dont change it to an folding prop, use motor brake setting for less chance of breaking your prop on landing
Elevons: 2-3mm up from the wingroot (reflex) if the CG is at stock 85mm
maybe a slight bit more for maiden launch to help you!
►INAV5 for Matek f411 wse:
Target: MATEKF411SE_FD_SFTSRL1
S1: Motor
S3: Left Servo
S4: Right Servo
UART1: GPS
UART2: CRSF
SoftSerial1: DJI OSD (RX=LED, TX=ST1)
►►INAV CLI important setting:
set init_gyro_cal=OFF
(There seems to be a bug in iNav 5 where the initial calibration after booting causes sa write operation. if you unplug it too soon, this could reset your FC to defaults?)
Motor Beeps but doesnt work?
motor beeps slowly: no signal (or motor outputs are disabled in INAV!)
if it beeps quickly (if activated), this means throttle is not at 0% - ESC needs calibration (not via remote, but via the Motor slider in INAV config)
iNav flightmodes:
NAV CRUISE (course hold + alt hold)
ACRO (if nothing is selected!) RATE mode - helps against the WIND!
MANUAL (Passthru)
RTH Settings:
nav_rth_climb_first = ON
Maximum altitude since launch (NAV_RTH_MAX_ALT)
Autotune flight
Fly a few rounds with enough ROLL and PITCH movements. DON'T Start with AUTOTUNE mode activated (I nearly crashed because of this!)
Important: after landing, DISARM, then move both Sticks BACK and OUT to SAVE!

Ask Ian from Mads Tech channel cause he had done that quite often before if I remember right, at least since the DJI red goggles had been released.
Might work again for sure.
Thank you for the help, and the truth about your journey with this wing. This helps a lot. Hopefully it will ease my struggles!!
Interesting airplane. Always a pleasure to watch videos from a different corner of the hobby and learn something new.
Just another excellent video review, it's like you're got your pulse on whats good in fpv. I've been thinking about a wing and this is a great review on one thanks Mario.
thanks, there's more incoming (the Mars) - in the summer I'm more leaning towards wings ;) I will for sure have my copter phase soon again ;)
Beautiful scenery Mario! I recently got my first plane but had to leave it behind when moving. I plan to get a new one and might be getting either the AR Wing or the T1 Ranger. Thanks for the video!
As a copter guy you will have a bit of a hard time, but at the same time it's a new challenge and fun!
The t1 Ranger is sure also a nice one. Looking forward to see your adventures with planes! Greets, Mario
Thanks for the link to my video on the DJI setup. Happy flying!
Your welcome! The more I dive into inav or planes, the more I see how much you contribute to this scene! Greets, Mario
Keep the fixed wing content coming, much appreciated.
Great stuff Mario... I enjoyed every minute!
Thanks Bruce!
Amazing video plane location thanks for the amazing footage👏👏👏
Thanks, I will probably do an update video on the arwingpro soon! Love it
great video !lovely wing
Third time is the charm! Nice setup on the cameras getting those sweet angles.
Thanks! The ARWingPro flies great with the new FC. Speedy F405 wing is really nice value! And Autolaunch is such an important helper! Especially on wings the hand launches are not always perfect...
Nice Mario. Glad you got it in the air and had some nice flights.
hey, I just watched your Autolaunch video! Super informative! Will follow your instructions there! Also this motivates me to fly with my little wings more (and get INAV on them). greets, Mario
@@Rcschimthanks, I’m glad it was helpful. Yeah, you should definitely fly planes more. It’s great to experience more sides of the hobby. I’ve just started with quads. I’ve had one for ages, but it always had problems. So in the last 3 weeks, I’ve flown it more than since I built it in 2017. Looking forward to flying it and my planes tomorrow.
Copters are for sure easier to handle. The ammount of stability even in gusts and high winds is amazing - and the only downside of wings for me. Was flying high again today (below some heavy rain clouds) and it was calm on the ground, but up there it was shaking pretty bad. couldnt enjoy the trip that much. How much would you move the CG forward on the AR Wingpro? Does it help against this instability?
At least I got it back in one piece and the landing was nice (since calm on the ground).
@@Rcschim planes can definitely feel the wind. Though after a while, it's not too bad. I'll happily fly in quite windy conditions, as often there isn't a choice here. A calm day is rare.24 to 30 km/h winds are pretty normal where I fly. Usually the opposite too, calm higher up, and buffeting lower down due to turbulence created by trees.
Marc @b14ckyy's Tech would be the best guy to ask about the CG on the AR Pro. I don't have one, only the original AR Wing and Mini AR. Both of those I fly with standard CG.
Hey, seen your Name in a lot of the INAV changelog lines. Thanks for your work!
Autolaunch worked really nice! my wing flies better now, I think hard mounting my FC instead of the dual lock Velcro Tape also helped. CG is still stock and if flew just fine today. It also helped me to reduce the FOV on my DJI goggles. gone back from 100% to 90% view - so the shakes dont bother me so much... greets, Mario
Mario, thanks for posting this. I'm currently putting my AR wing PRO together. I've got a MATEK 411 wing going in mine. I've got three of them all running soft serial for the DJI telemetry. I've not had any issues with any of them (INAV 3 /4/5)
I honestly don't know what went wrong with mine. Maybe the board is damaged? It worked fine, than I landed (no crash). Unplugged just the power from DJI so it doesn't heat. Set things on the wing, wanted to fly again and it never got osd again.
Tried different things. Another DJI airunit on this setup, and this one in another setup.
Anyhows....
Like Chilternflyer - I'm using the softserial for DJI telemetry on my Nano Goblin, works just great! As for the AR Pro - nope, prerfer my AtomRC Dolphin.
@@Caroline_Tyler I don't know what went wrong there. It worked for 2 flights and then it didn't, without any crash or electric issue...
The ARWing pro is fun. Don't know what it is - but I like flying those wings...
The Dolphin looks really good (not the one of my friend tho - the one that crashed twice).
I recently got the Mars - it's similar, but a bit bigger. Here all works (Matek H743 has enough real Uarts) :)
Oh this is interesting :-) nice one mate. I want to see more.
If it survives a few more of my launches you will Gaf! I will setup autolaunch and hope it is better than my manual throw ;)
@@Rcschim You want to get some tips from Bruce, he's an expert at "lobbing" wings :-)
I had the exact same struggles with this plane at the start. After abour 30 flights, I retired the ARW Pro and moved on to the Retile Dragon 2. Would love to see it!
I also have the MiniTalon with INAV and DJI on it. Maybe I'll fly that more.
Today I flew it successfully but very wobbly in what looked like calm air on the ground (but heavy clouds - so maybe weird gusts higher up there).
I saw Daemon42 flying the Reptile Dragon2 and loving it - I think he also had the AR Wingpro before that...
Autolaunch worked great today - take a lot of the scary phase of the start. Still helps if you know how to give it a good toss...
Never had a problem with mine at all, just remember to get the CG right. Mine has been absolutely faultless.
I made my crossfire nano and servo share a ground so I could have the extra pin for the rx/TX for crossfire
Awesome flying and review, Mario!!! 😃
About the elevator, did you run autotune? It should fix it pretty fast. 😊
Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Yes, I used autotune, but still in acro mode I have not as much throw as in manual. I'm pretty sure it's a setting somewhere.
Once I almost crashed because I had autotune (for the first time), active on launch already. That was scary!
@@Rcschim Ouch! 😬
Yeah, I see... Either way, if I'm not mistaken, in acro you still have iNav helping you... I believe manual mode would be 100% with you. But I can be mistaken...
yes, acro mode helps you keep the orientation of the plane the same (and fight against external forces, wind...) manual is 100% passthru, that's what I use now on starts. I rather be the weak factor in this equation myself ;)
Nice
Great video on this wing Thanks, I enjoy flying my ar wing pro too and now looking at the zoid 4s2p 7000mah battery pack, roughly how much flight time do you get with this pack? Thanks again
Thanks! With the (now quite old ZOHD 7000mah pack) I flew VERY conservative 25mins in avg. but my calculations show that 45mins should be possible. So anywhere from 25 to 45 mins :)
Unless you really reach for long distances, this is more flighttime than I ever need.
on my mars 1200 I use the same pack and could confidently go very far with it.
Thanks
Nice video! Just bought this wing as my first one coming from quadcopters. Really nice detailed description but I'm curious and didn't find the location is that Germany or Switzerland?
I have a drone with caddx vista that use the soft serial for GPS instead of OSD. Because GPS use less bandwidth then it works fine. I've read that using OSD on soft serial often stop working.
Neiter of these partly german speaking neighbouring countries ;) (ok it's Austria)
I have given up the soft serial on this plane. I'm ok with using telemetry on the radio. for some things I setup alarms there and it works nice.
Have 3 other working INAV controlled planes now with GPS and DJI - so the ARWing gets lesser flighttimes (see my fixerwing compilation video!)
One tip: since the hand launch of the AR Wing can be critical (as you saw in this vid) - setup Autolaunch right away - since I use it - I never had a failed start again. So convenient!
I will send you a seperate reply with the CLI commands with my Autolaunch values...
here's my Autolaunch settings:
set small_angle = 180
set nav_fw_control_smoothness = 2
set nav_fw_launch_velocity = 150
set nav_fw_launch_accel = 1500
set nav_fw_launch_max_angle = 90

Beautiful bird! Just a though that hot glue is typically not the best option for anyone living in hot climates :)
yEEEEEESSSSSSSS!
First? Third time's a charm:) Glad it worked out nicely. But ive noticed that your motor sounds weird . Its not smooth, it sounds like its choking . Ive noticed it on i think 2 of your launches .
Also if you ant to check my ARWing Pro setup, ive just uploaded my video. Happy Flying
kinda ;) technically my pinned comment was first (but I got an unfair advantage I guess) Video took hours now to process HD (still 4k is missing). youtube is a bit slow today... how's your ARWing doing?
@@Rcschim Its too windy today here, so can not fly. Other than that all is good. Cant wait to take her for some litle longer range
same here too. next days are rainy. which is good in this drought - but not so good for us hobby pilots ;)
thanks, I will check your video. my autolaunch tests worked fine - today the wing flew really well. the only problem I had was gopro7 froze and didnt record a nice 25min formation flight with another AR wingpro... greets, Mario
How are you powering the Air Unit? The standard electronics that come with this indicate a 5v 3A BEC, which is not enough voltage. 🤔
Hi, the ESC also has a little red connector which passes the battery voltage - not the 5V BEC.
You could also take the power directly from the balance plug of the battery or from the main battery cable... (just don't use more than 4cell packs with AIRUnit, or up to 6S on Vista)
@@Rcschim Excellent! Picked this setup for easy plug and play with DJI, and was confused when it seemed to be missing an appropriate power setup. Using a 4s, so that little red wire should be perfect. Thank you very much!
Great flight and views once airborne. Looking to seeing more of this wing as you get it dialled in and tuned.
Interesting elevon issues, first the control horns, then reverse programming. Thinking your first couple launches might have gone flawless if had caught sooner. There's always something, just a mater how critical. Since crashes included, we know this is an honest video. ;)
Seems odd that DJI OSD not working. If you have spare flight controller on the bench, you could try verifying your Air Units data out, just to rule out bad wiring, etc. Is there a ground between the FC and the Air Unit? (or just Rx, Tx)
With things powered off, you can use an ohm meter to double check continuity between FC and Air unit, just to make sure not a broken wire, etc.
At 13:46, it appears this was your first launch with FC? Betaflight, or INAV? Think Acro mode will increase throws if plane is not level. On bench it appears to have less throws in Acro as plane is already level. See in reply to another comment, you planning to setup Autolaunch. This should be helpful. Autotuning is another that makes a nice improvement.
Good luck with you iNav adventure, realize it's all new to you and are still in the early learning process. Would be interesting to hear an iNav review, from your newbie perspective, reviewing notes and lessons learned after have gotten comfortable with and tested a number of iNav features.
Just back from a flight under heavy clouds. The whole time I feared that it might rain soon - but I wanted a flight since the next days have a lot of rain as well (which is good for nature!). Still doesnt rain ;)
The wing was stable at times - but quite shaky as well. Even in higher air. Probbably a lot of gusts under the cloud base? Not even Acro mode could help me keep in nice straight. Maybe my FC is too wobbly and therefore the stabilization doesnt work great.
But the flighttime is amazing all the time. Got 25mins and it felt like eternity ;) due to the heavy shakes I didnt feel comfortable enough flying longer. Then I got one drop of water on my DJI lens and I was like: "OK, I will land now!"
13:46 launch fail: It's INAV, my ACRO has too little throw - don't know why yet, better to start in manual mode.
Not sure if we need another INAV guide video - but I will for sure share my findings (like here in the videos description).
Autolaunch is definitly interesting, but it also scares me to trust the FC and software so much... greets, Mario
@@Rcschim A good indicator of turbulence (vertical motion) under clouds is the darkness of clouds. Darker usually implies stronger up/down drafts, lighter (or clear) less strong. If cloud is of uniform shade, then less winds vs non-uniform cloud shade. Flying paths with least change in contrast will will minimize turbulence; as will flying above the cloud base level (in the clear). Having flown gliders/sailplanes, has been a good teacher of first-person experience.
Like in a quad, you want your FC very firmly secured in a wing. Any 'wobbly' is BAD, just like wobbly sticks on a radio transmitter are bad. ;)
A "what I learnt setting up iNAV" could be a valuable and insightful video, more so than a generic tutorial. Most tutorials are more general and don't discuss specifics in context of a particular setup, and why some deviations make from a typical setup.
Thanks a lot! Your experience with clouds is very welcome here! That day was VERY cloudy - lots of dark and bright clouds - so I asum - lots of turbulence. Also: had my FC on a dual Lock tape- that gave it some play. bad idea. Now it's firmly dualside tape glued in - hope it works better now. so many variables. But fun.
Will think of editing an "flyingwings and INAV - what I've learned so far" video in a few weeks. currently I'm all in for wings (have 2 days off infront of me - so plenty of time to build and test stuff!
greets, Mario
Maximum Altitude 120m!
Buaaaahahahahaaaa!
As allways großartiges Video👍
It's the wideangle that makes it look higher than normal ;)
If u think throwing it is difficult. Try autolaunch in inav. Works great 🙂
Im a bit scared by auto launching the plane, but I will rewatch mrDs tutorial and have great settings on it and then this should really take the pain and anxious feelings out of starts.
@@Rcschim it works realy good on mine. Never had a problem with it.

already tried it - works GREAT! with the right settings and also with a good toss, AL takes a lot of the problems away...
@@Rcschim sorry for late answer. Yes it works great. Glad u had a succesful launch👍
After flying quads and watching plane fpv videos like this one - the planes look liked they rock back and forth all over the place its dizzying, do they really look like this in fpv, do you get use to it?
Yes, and that's why I'm always torn between copters and planes. Copters have a lot of advantages. Easy start, landings, stability... but planes are more of an adventure to fly. Longer flights, sail back home without motor, feeling the wind. The sensation of flying is just better...
To get used to the Shake: I reduced the fov on my dji goggles to 90%, tried to tune my settings better on inav. Am happy for calm winds to fly in ;)
@@Rcschim thats good to know, some of that was what I was hoping for, particularly long flight times.
@@TheRoadtoGonzo Yep, looooong flighttimes. Yesterday I did another testflight (DJI Action2 on ARWingpro) and flew 20min then I landed - it already felt very long. Used 2200mah out of my 7000mah LiIon ;)
It's a good entry level wing. Molden foam wings from China are heavy and not very aerodynamic, and don't give you that smooth stable lift like custom epp/epo hybrids or even wings like crashtesthobby reaper with asymmetric airfoil have. Barely any bob in wind with those wings
got a pretty shakey flight in today (heavy clouds probbably weird gusts below them). Not sure if any wing would fly smooth there. but it's scary - constantly I fear that my plane will freak out :) this drives a lot of pilots back to the easy world of multicopters ;)
The grim reaper looks nice for sure. reminds me on the ritewing zephyr. Maybe I will get a decent wing later...
I'm in process of building my 3rd ar wing pro, my biggest problem with these wings are the build in plugs on the wings which are good for servos, most receivers and vtx need 4 wires just wondering how you deal with this? My first 2 builds I removed these pins and just run cable but what a waste this is. Thanks for all your videos
Good luck for the maiden already ;)
I was wondering the same (how can we use the 4pin devices with the nice 3pin built in connectors.
I didn't have to use them since I have my Crsf and DJI quite close to the main fuselage.
But I guess you could share the black wire with servos and get around this limitation.
Thanks for reply, I've build alot of wings but never shared ground or voltage pins I just worried about getting interference what a waste on these receptacles, without sharing it will be hard to remove wings for transport, maybe better to share postive instead of ground I'm just not sure? Thanks again
@@egtreadway4232 you really shouldnt trust me when it comes to electrical stuff ;) but I think sharing (common) ground is better than plus...
Ok I'll give it a go, thanks for your help
I think that you can use alcohol to dissolve the hot glue in case you make such a mistake.
Alcohol solves (dissolves) many problems ;) But it also creates some (few guys on our field drink and fly - always fun to watch, behind the security net).
Seriously I will remember your tip for the next stupid build mistake I do ;)
Хороший английский, достаточно легко понять без перевода. Спасибо за ролик!
What battery did you use?
On the arwing I use: either 2x 3000mah 18650 liion packs in parallel,
One 2600mah lipo, or a 3300mah lipo. All 4cell. Change it depending on the hd cam I use (and I tried a lot ;)
Haha, easy mistake to make re the servo arms . . Amazing you got it to fly with a one handed launch.
Of course I double checked the controls initially. Later I reprogrammed my radio and wanted to make it nicer and inverted the servos for a cleaner setup, but forgot to also invert the ail mixers. Overhead launches are not an option for me, got an injured shoulder. With my long arms the discus toss works rather well, next up I will test auto launch to have an easier job ;)
A 7 amp Lion pack and yet it still needs a GoPro on it to balance it.
This is just one reason why I didn't buy it...It also bobs about in the pitch axis like all Chinese flying wings. As for launching it, well it's a lottery at best.....Fun watching quad boy fly a wing though....lol...🤔😳😀😀😀🇬🇧🇬🇧
you could argue that it's designed to fit a gopro there...
I already heard good things about the grim reaper or similar wings, and they cut nice thru the air?
The launches just need training. on the last crash in this vid I was too sloppy - had a few succesfull ones prior and felt too secure ;)
now I setup autolaunch and hope it helps me. mounted the FC better (so less wobbly) and did some PID tuning.
Also I think about makeing my DJI goggles view smaller (70%) so the wobble around from the wing doesnt freak me out too much...
Do you have a recommendation for a next FPV plane? good wing? reptile dragon2? Mars, dolphin?
greets, Mario
@@Rcschim Hi, well there are so many bad Chinese wings around. If you're determined to get a decent one, then the small Z84 takes some beating. I used iNAV Autolaunch on this and it never failed, ever. It does have hand holds on the CG which helps launching. A bigger version was made. Availability may be a problem now though. I'd just stay away from Chinese designed wings altogether....🤔😳😏🇬🇧
but you don't talk about the zeta wing z-84 (which looks very much like a chinese wing)?
as a next plane I look at the MARS - looks like a spaceship. Maybe it's a bit better in the wind... Lee (painless360) did a review a few days ago...
@@Rcschim Well, the Z84 flies really well is the obvious difference I guess. There are a ton of videos of this little bird flying Autonomous Missions and rediculous distances too...That Mars wing is stupidly expensive for what it is IMO....🤔😳😏
@@EnglishTurbines Thanks, I will research the z84 the for the future. Dont care if it's small, dont need a gopro, could live with a peanut or just the Airunit.
Mars is currently on sale in a nearby warehouse (so it would be fast shipping) and it's 160€ (I heard that it was also sold for 300€...)
This bird is sexy.. I nav is fun to learn and if know betaflight then real easy. 👊👊👍👍
Inav is really similar to betaflight at least for the user (the configurator). in many ways it feels more advanced (for sure with planes). will see maybe I install inav on a bigger copter and see if it works well there also...
greets, Mario
@@Rcschim so much more you can do..was about to try my first flight's.. had auto lunch all set.. almost took with me.. wish I had.. so much one can learn. Start adding sensors. Make your dji bird 🤣🤣🤣 now do through your videos 💪💪👊👊
what is you favorit fpv wing?
normally it's always the last one I got ;) the ARWing is really nice (and feels like a "real" wing).
I also loved to fly my FPV900 from techone (a miniracewing clone) for it's simplicity - but in a tragic crash it died ;) (see one of my last FPV Meeting vids).
the dolphin is technically listed as a wing often - and it's probbably currently my fav. plane.
anything really that has INAV and flightcontroller in it is good.
Here in the land of the not so free such planes and flights are essentially out of the question due to new rc drone/ plane regulations. A whole industry and science has essentially been shut down in the name of security and safety. About the only thing that can be done now is to fly in relatively small circles at authorized fields.
Don't wanna promote to break the law, but I also don't want to see politics telling us too much what to do. Those new laws are bs...
If you have a remote spot where nobody cares, who would stop you from flying? Just fly safe and enjoy the hobby, your country is huge! greets, Mario
@@Rcschim very true. Here in Montana, 4th biggest state, would have no issues flying. Simple as driving maybe 30 mins from the nearest town and it’s like you’re in the middle of nowhere. Great vids!!!🤙
I swear when I clicked on this video I thought it was Arnold Schwarzenegger, who is one of my heroes, doing the review. You sound just like him.
Its his brother Mario Schwarzenegger 🙃
I suspect Mario is rather fed up with that comparison :)
It's ok Phil, in the past Arnie was just an action hero and not a very intelligent one. But now it shows that this man has great potential.
Get that a lot and usually answer: "get to the choppa!" But I guess it's not the voice, rather the accent.
You know the problem with a lot of the world these days... Is that even when it's a genuine compliment... People take offense and get up in arms. I can adore a newborn puppy even though it's stupid and imbecile and inexperienced in nature... And I can also love and respect a genius for their accomplishments and potentials and abilities. I'm not the judge who should love anyone or anything for what or how or why... But there are very few people on earth who achieved the things of those who I appreciate.
Worst wing definitely no progress on the ar wing launch always risk...
Next up I will try inav autolaunch... it's definitly not the worst wing in my hangar. Don't know the first arwing.
Hey Mario ! unfortunately its not iNav. It's INAV. Pawel will be mad 🤣 ( see watch?v=VZ6mQ-k8YHU).
Jokes aside its a good wing to fly. Unfortunately overall wing's flight behaviour ( the wobbles - shaking while flying) does not make me happy so I never got into them. Thanks for the review
Thanks for the info, don't wanna make Pawel mad ;)
I'm similar minded about the wing flight characteristics. But at the same time I love the long flight times and the FPV adventures... for my first flights I always ended up flying higher to have calm air. With more confidence I can fly lower to the ground, fast!
drive.google.com/file/d/1hSxIcu9pEQLm5PmQEO_bojjQDu3SREzg/view?usp=sharing here's a hand launcher for the AR wing if anyone wants it. It could probably be adapted to other wings - but the AR wing really needs one!
Hi, my buddy meant that yes, his cg was probably too far back...
