That's why it's more fun to figure out a random jank strategy without a guide. More accomplishment. Now for bosses they only last a few days and take so awfully long that it's not worth figuring it out.
There's obviously nothing wrong with using guides, but I agree with your point. Trying to find an individual/unique strat (maybe with some non-meta towers) and perfecting it to the point of the black border can even take days and make chimps feel a lot more complex/hard than it is to just follow a tutorial.
@@vinesthemonkeyBosses usually have more of a routine to them, but I also like to get some help/inspiration from tutorials depending on how my own attempt is going
@@derschonwieder8185 I find tutorials more useful for bossfights but bossfights will go fine if you know the basic rules like farming a ton beforehand and getting meta towers like MAD.
@alf73 Thats pretty much what I meant with 'routine', I can usually do the Bosses (both Normal and Elite) myself without Help but for crazy bosses (like the current Elite Vortex) I am not afraid to look up how for example Punji does it
As someone who doesn't use guides but watches the "What if you had a billion of the same monkey" type videos, I consider myself only a little above average and I can't even *get* to chimps on most maps above intermediate, and I barely have the patience to bother trying lol

More like "From brutal to slightly less brutal"... True expert maps are still a terror, and in some cases (Bloody Puddles CHIMPS) are not even consistently winnable no matter who you are.
@@thattubaguy217 Ah, you didn't know that subs on the same pixel have different targeting RNG in every run? Its like trying to roll a 10 or higher on dice every time.
i feel like most of the difference is just simple powercreep, take etienne for example, he used to be top tier, and now (with no changes to him directly) is considered one of the worst chimps heroes by top players
Has he ever been top tier for expert maps? Idk I think his competitors (020 village) haven't really gotten better either. It's not like the top meta towers have innate camo anyway (other than condor) I think it's just more people thinking about it more and getting better at the game, and realizing he doesn't really provide any real value to a game
One thing I've noticed is that a lot of youtubers don't black border chimps anymore. The ability to replay a round now without having to do an exploit or use mods has definitely encouraged people to take more a brute force approach to maps and just keep trying whatever they feel like until they find something that works. Years ago when the focus was mostly on getting black borders you had to have the perfect strategy and skill to make it through to the end without any errors, which was especially harder with the far more limited options than we have today.
I wouldn’t say Chimps is “easy” now. It is easier, but not easy. Most of the difficulty drop is relative: we’re way better at the game now than years ago. I can tell from random co-ops that the higher difficulties are still difficult for less experienced players (and experienced players working with half cash 😅)
The dartling gunner is such an incredible tower to micro. It can be a complete cash saver in the early game and its upgrades are also great for late game as well.
Nowadays, CHIMPS can be pushed to people being about to get 2,000,000 pops out of the 2,042,693 available pops in a CHIMPS game for the CHIMPS specific achievement of 2 Megapops, some people go beyond and do these on the most difficult of maps! Along with beating a CHIMPS game using just 2 Towers for the 2TC achievement, showing both the capabilities of both towers & their placement, along with the player's knowledge of both towers. So much can be thought of nowadays! ^^
Any recommended guides? I always get to late game no problem but on harder maps i sometimes have a hard time with those last 5-10 rounds. This vid would be great if i had it in text form lol, may need to rewatch and take notes
I thought you were going to say Apopalypse. Getting money at the end of each round made it fair for medium difficulty, and not up there with Half Cash.
i still cant handle early game chimps on harder maps. i feel like you either already know the specific strat that often involves pixel perfect positioning and targeting micro or youre gonna be stuck in spending more and more money on cheap stuff as youre unable to save. it's just a bit frustrating that so many expert chimps maps feel gated off like that
Having just finished my X-factor black border (FINALLY), I feel like Chimps (for Me subjectively) is still a pretty difficult thing to go through , however it does depend on a bunch of stuff. I would consider myself relatively knowledgeable about the game & mechanics. I would say that I can do all Easy/Intermediate and a good part of Advanced on my own without many struggles, but there are definitely a bunch that are still very hard to me. I think it depends mostly on A) the map itself (i.e. X-factor, gross) and its potential quirks and B) on the fact that I usually try to find my own way and experiment with towers (like I did on X-factor). So yes, new towers, balance changes and a better overall understanding make things much simpler, so I believe that (to me) the difficulty in Chimps is still present but more depending on how easy you make it for yourself (Choice of Towers, willingness to experiment and mostly Use of tutorials) Over time, both the game and the Community/Internet have brought up a lot of options and approaches to Chimps mode and your choice of options/approach will have quite an impact on its percieved difficulty.
first, congratz on your achievement. i hate x-factor with a passion lol. second, agreed with this. chimps still isnt smth you can take lightly: ive black-bordered an expert map for the first time very recently and since then have gotten a couple more, but occasionally i can still get merked on intermediate or even easy maps chimps if im not quite careful enough. i wouldnt be surprised if this were the case even for much better players than i - stuff like rounds 15, 40, and 63 still demand a lot of respect when playing through them on chimps.
True. You definitely can still make runs tough if you choose fun towers over OP ones. And if you struggle through the gimmicks of harder maps instead of looking things up.
While the video frames this a bit of a bad thing, I really don't think it is. A lot of the difficult lowering comes from just having more options to do more things, and more specialization that can reward knowledgable players or people who want to try new strategies. Which is good, much better than release BTD6 which had 1 good path on every monkey you build everytime, with few exceptions. Now, theres a place for almost every upgrade. And, if you really want to still challenge yourself, you can always do community challenges or restrict what heroes you use. Try chimps without the big 3 of Sauda, Geraldo, or Corvis and see how it goes.
It’s so nice seeing nee players figure out crazy shit that just beats rounds, and I hate seeing everyone try to shoehorn yhem into popular strats backseat gaming like the stock market relies upon the meta of a monke game.

I can prove your point just by looking at me. I'm a mediocre player at best and at times worse especially if I have donuts or pastries while I'm playing. I am at Veteran level 20 and now cream most of the Chimp maps. I am only able to do this as I have several of you guys on bookmark speed dial. Having trouble with a Chimp run I just look up you or SJB,ISAB,Dabloon etc etc etc. If this doesn't work I just quit and go have some cake.
well yeah to some extent, but i think its still a completely fair game mechanic to have added, since retrying even once doesnt allow you to get that nice shiny black border. true, it makes it a lot easier to scout out strategies for runs, but i feel like considering people would have done (and did, prior to the mechanic's release) that anyways, that factor just made chimps more artificially difficult. needing to start over from r6 over and over again when encountering a difficult round with a strat you came up with - and then later when you find another - made chimps a lot more frustrating than actually difficult to figure out imo.
I can see that. I've always considered CHIMPS being getting the Black Border. But I know not everyone agrees with me on that :) Half Cash can be ridiculously tough sometimes. If they didn't give the option for powers and instas I'd probably agree with you (even though I refuse use them).

CHIMPS isn't even the hardest for me. Half-Cash... now that is truly the most god forsaken game mode in BTD6
actually, you can use geraldo's quincy action figure to make money because action figure does not follow the half-cash rule
Honestly, I just save all my powers for that mode. That's where they're best utilized.
