@@mr_red13 Watch it. It is a misunderstood masterpiece that was filmed decades ahead of its time. Way before mockumentary or found footage were things, Orson Welles invented both. He was a genius among geniuses.
The idea that Huston’s character is a bull being ritually murdered by all the journos at his screening/party had not occurred to me but it’s inescapable after seeing this. Should be required viewing before (or after) watching the incredible genius of TOSOTW.
In the end Mr. Welles makes the distinction between two kinds of people who live of bullfighting: the ones who do it for money, and the ones who do it for emotional reasons living it in second hand. In the 50´s and 60´s if Mr. Welles had visited Portugal and seen the "Forcados", he would knew some bullfighters who dont do it for money and dont live bullfight in second hand.
He ended up hating it, but still calling some bullfighters among his best friend. He eventually said he was ashamed of himself for "following the bulls."
@@mikiex Didnt see these two comments! Well, is absolutely logical that someone in his context would like bullfighting, I guess. Plus, the human is the human... There is no time in a lifetime to think and argue about every single aspect, philosophyzing several times through the years. The problem would be idealizing him haha loosing the perspective of him being a human and, thus, imperfect. Hope this makes sense! Tryed to translate from my native spanish without dictionary :P
Mr. Welles understood Spain as very few foreigners have been able to ❤
fascinating to watch. wonder if there is more footage out there
This was directed by the Maysles brothers; the surviving brother says he's going to use this plus more footage he has to make a documentary.
Mesmerizing as always, Mr. Welles. I wish you could have realized more of your projects.
What an incredible piece of film. He’s talking about a very primal version of The Other Side of the Wind… Astounding.
This film is the seed that led to the creation of The Other aside of the Wind, finally completed by Netflix in 2018
What's it about?

That is to say that they do it because of passion?
I need 20 million dollars and a time machine
I believe much of this project transferred to orson's aproach to other side of the wind, including the character of jake hannaford
Yes in the first draft the character was a bull fighter
Like finding a precious jewel lying on the ground at my feet.
Joder, que pedazo de video
Is this the hustling that he hated doing so much?
yeah, that’s true. he had to act in order to direct. he also loved spain so maybe just a tiny hustle here 😃

Sometimes its better not to know much about your heroes...So sad he loved bullfighting! (Despite his metaphoric explanation). What a pity.
