  • The Dewalt DCS391 is a 18V cordless circular saw which works on the XR 18v Dewalt platform. This saw is very powerful and cuts timber and nail embedded timber with ease. I bought this from eBay for about £139 naked (with no batteries or charger). fave.co/2R8PfiZ
    The saw is great, apart from the dust extraction port, which seems to be totally in the way.

    Thanks, great review. I have several Ryobi One+ tools, including a circular saw, and have used them for years. I especially like the small saw for thin paneling and doing one-handed overhead cuts while hanging from a ladder rung: couldn't do that with a heavy corded saw. When I first bought everything, the 18v batteries were NiCad and did not last for more than a couple of cuts with the circular saw or the chainsaw. When they brought out Li batteries, I switched and it's like night and day. That might be why some people think they're under powered.

    This is a great little saw and I got mine as a bare unit on a certain auction site for just over the ton. I use it for ripping up 18mm ply and there’s plenty of power for its size. Longevity with a 5 aH battery is more than acceptable, so overall I’m well pleased.

    Shame about the dust nozzle position .
    I'd like to know , does the XR range Batteries fit the FlexVolt range & vise-versa ..
    Also , have you tried hikoki Saws or Milwaukee saws ..?
    Thanks again for a nice review.

    • @ultimatehandyman
      @ultimatehandyman  3 роки тому

      Yeah, not sure why they put the dust port where it is!
      From what I understand the flex volt batteries can be used on any Dewalt 18v XR power tool, and they will give a much longer run time. But I don't think you can use the 18v XR batteries on the flex volt tools (as they need 54v).
      I've not tried Hikoki or Milwaukee saws. I had a lot of Milwaukee tools on site, but mainly metal working tools. I have since stopped working on site and sold all my tools to one of the apprentices.

    I’ve just got the same saw, what battery do you recommend, that 4Ah battery you use seems to do the job nicely but would a 5Ah give any oomph or just a longer running time ? I’m guessing it can only increase the running time. Great review 👍🏼

    • @ultimatehandyman
      @ultimatehandyman  Рік тому

      Sometimes the more powerful AH batteries mean that they can do more difficult jobs. This saw is great and has always cut everything I have ever tried. A few months back I tried another make of circular saw, which on paper looked much more powerful than this saw (the new one was even brushless), it kept stalling! Whilst the Dewalt just powered right through it.
      The only bad thing about this circular saw, is the useless dust extraction!
      I’d always go for the 5AH battery, if possible, but 4AH will be fine 👍

      It will work, but the run time between charges will be a lot shorter, it might also struggle with harder materials. I have to say that this saw is absolutely superb, I tried another make 18v circular saw a few days back, with more power and a brushless motor and it could not compete with this. How have you found the batteries for Dewalts? I had a Makita drill and the batteries went into fault mode when I allowed them to discharge a few times making them useless. This is what puts me off cordless power tools generally in finding that it may be useless a few years later because of a dead battery.

    • @ultimatehandyman
      @ultimatehandyman  3 роки тому

      The batteries are fine- so far.
      I have had issues with Milwaukee batteries when using their angle grinder, but the batteries were at least 6 years old.

      This is a great circular saw, it effortlessly cuts most timbers up to ½” thick, but the dust extraction is a major let down. A guy from Facebook even 3D printed me an adaptor, but even with that the dust went absolutely everywhere. I bought the Dewalt XR 18v chainsaw about two years back and have not used it once yet!
      I do have a petrol chainsaw, but I've lent it to one of my mates (can't remember which one).
      A few people have asked to borrow my chain saw, and when I've asked what they are cutting they have only been cutting branches that are up to 6 inches in diameter, so I normally lend them the reciprocating saw for that (much safer and much more versatile than a chain saw, and cheaper).
      Petrol chainsaws are great, if you have a lot to cut and will use it regularly. For occasional trimming I'd look at a reciprocating saw, or an electric chainsaw.
      (I must test the Dewalt one soon- I'm always testing tools after the warranty has expired)
