Mt. Pilatus Switzerland Day Trip From Lucerne

- If you are staying in Luzern (Lucerne), Switzerland then make sure to take a day trip to Mt. Pilauts. Mt. Pilatus offers incredible sweeping views of 73 Alpine peaks. It towers over the region with an altitude of 2,128m/6,982ft.
There are a few different ways to visit the peak; via gondola and aerial cable car leaving directly from Kriens or via the steepest classic cogwheel train from Alpnachstad.
Tickets for a trip up to Mt. Pilatus are available online, at any staffed rail station, at the Lake Lucerne boat docks, and from the Pilatus ticket desks. If you have a rail pass, we had the Swiss Travel Pass and Family Card for the kids, you may get a discount. You’ll need to decide if you are doing a circle tour, like the “Golden Round Trip” or “Silver Round Trip,” or if you are just going up-then-down the same route. We did the trip ourselves and went up/down from Kriens.
Mt. Pilatus has lots of hiking trails, paragliding opportunities, an alpine slide, and alpine rope park. Be sure to grab a map and look at the different highlights along the way.
If you don’t have a car to drive to the gondola in Kriens, you can take the RBus1 out of Luzern directly to Kriens. It was about a 15 minute bus ride. Just pay attention to the stops and be sure to pull the string to request a stop. Get out, cross the street, and it’s a 5-10 minute walk to the gondola ticket booth.

I was there in 1964, it has changed somewhat, but not much. It was a great day of adventure.
I was there last fall and took the cogwheel train up, and the gondola down. This brings back all the wonderful memories to see the familiar sights. It was a dream come true. Next time I will do the Alpine slide! The cowbells were beautiful background music as we rode the swinging gondola down. I was slightly terrified but the views are absolutely stunning. ❤️

Thanks for your video. You said your parents didn't do the slide ? Was it for health reasons? I want to do it so bad, I just am afraid I might hurt my back. We are in our early 70's.

Yes, we had the Swiss Travel Pass for the trip. My parents bought the Half Fare Card. We bought a 3-day Jungfrau Pass as well.

so do i take the take the gondola up to the first stop , get off to do the toboggan slide and this takes me down to the bottom where i started right?
then i get back on the gondola take it to the top at pilatus klum and do the cliff walk ?
does the ticket i buy for the gondola last me all day or do i need to buy multiple ones
The ticket is good for all day if you buy the ticket that takes you to the top. The slide does not take you to the bottom as it pulls you back up the hill. You start and end in the same spot. Hope that helps.
