- The Salish 200 (www.salish200.com) was conceived in 2020 to provide an inshore long-distance race that could test boats and their crews while serving to showcase the beauty of the Pacific Northwest. The 2021 event had limited participants due to conflicts with other races and on account of it being Father’s Day weekend, but all three boats finished the full course with the smallest being a J/100 with a PHRF of 78, finishing at 2:25pm on Sunday (over 6.5 hours before the cutoff).

There was similar, but a bit shorter race back in the 80's called The Great Eliminator (I think). It started at Shilshole, went north around Smith Island, then south, around Vashon, and back to Shilshole. Not a super popular race, so only got about 100 boats or so. (Popular races back then got 250-300 boats).
Yes - we've heard about it. The goal here was to come up with a 200nm race, and to showcase the beauty of the PNW. You gotta sail around the San Juans to do that!
