  • This video Fearful Reactive Cane Corso! Dog Training to build confidence in a puppy is about how to work with a puppy that is fearful of people or fearful of other dogs and reacts with fear aggression. Thomas walks you through the steps to build confidence in your puppy so that you can avoid much more severe issues as the dog gets older. Thomas works with a cane corso puppy in this video to demonstrate how this dog training is done.

    Awesome work! Do you have a series of videos where you get nervous dogs/reactive to strangers to get more comfortable with people or maybe a podcast on step by step way to get the dog to be more comfortable with people? Thanks!!

    I have a ~2 year old pittie girl who is in the exact same situation as Silver here. Barks in a scared-aggresive way to people who come in the house or near the house. Your videos are seriously helping me to help her. It's crazy how similar Silver's situation here seems to my girl's.

    Hello, from Chile, his videos help me with my dog, he has some problems with people and when people want to approach him, how to touch and clean him, he is aggressive, but I know him and he is an incredible dog. I am also a veterinary technician. So I do everything with care and love.

    I have a sweet German Shepard puppy and I notice that he’s very cautious with strangers. He’s five months old and knows all his basic commands, but still working on consistency with the commands. Love your videos! What are other ways to build confidence with young puppies ? He’s also very cautious with other dogs... he does go to dog daycare and does well with other puppies there. Just when we are out and about he’s doesn’t seem to want to meet other dogs.

    Brilliant and love how you emphasize the relationship first :) Had a similar problem with Milo as a very young pup.
    Not in the house, as soon as they stepped over the threshold he was fine. What I realized was that I had left my front garden in question. We just used it as a method to leave on walks etc. I had to take control of the area in his eyes....sighs. Male German Shepherds can be very territorial.
    He just alert barks now - letting me know someone is there when I am not physically present - but I am okay with this :)

      I learnt the hard away my cane corso was 8 weeks sitting and staying. I couldn't believe she did so fast. Then decided to push her more made a few mistakes and lost my relationship with her. Now 11 weeks, we both have a great relationship, listening to commands while maintaining good eye contact and most of all her recall is amazing!
      Thanks you Tom for your advice. Your doing a great job! 👌😁

      When it comes to german shepards its more of you might get a guard dog out of them, but you might not. Its not really a certain thing in this breed as many people think and depends alot on the personality of the dog. There was a video of someone who trains guard dogs that went and pretended to rob thier house or attack their owners to see if the owners german shepards, which they also got for guarding, would do anything and a lot of them just didn't do anything except maybe barked. So thier is no certainty that your german Shepard will just naturally start showing guarding behaviour, especially if the parents and other past relations arent known to do guard work. You may need to take your dog to training to become an effective guard dog and for them to assess if the personality of your dog is even right for that. Sorry for the long reply.

    what would you have done if she kept trying to run off/do her own thing or began to bark over the cars that passed by you guys? would you have continued to put pressure on the leash or try to get her to focus on you in those moments? i have a dog whose scared of everything and drags me everywhere. i dont know how to build that confidence when im unsure how to get her to focus on me once we’re outside 😅

    My puppy doesn't even want to walk so that initial leash process might not work for me. He knows "look" and "sit" but is too reactive to keep his butt on the ground and ignore. He is very afraid when strangers come over, but when he realizes there's no threat he does calm down, but it is a lot of barking. Never had a dog act like this before.

    Amazing job with Silver. For a fear based,
    / agressive dog should I practice this at night or in the day time. I live in a very dog friendly neighborhood and people are always walking thiet dogs around. I want to get him under control so I can atleast walk him for a short time but he's people, dogs, rabbit, and squirrel aggressive and there is allot of all of the above in my neighborhood. Also he has a tendency to go after flying things too and sometimes jumping after moving cars 😒😒. Any advice just to get started would be great.

      Start with little to no distractions in the beginning so the dog will have more focus on you and you can build that bond, then little by little add distractions. What kind of collar are you using? Are you giving any corrections when he lunges?

    • @MsPhillyG
      @MsPhillyG 5 років тому

      @@paulmazzei1109 I just use a choke chain and and he wears a no pull leash. So I have two leashes on him. When I see dogs in the distance I would turn him around and walk in the opposite direction. Yes I was using corrections but as soon as a dog, rabbit, or squirrel get in his sites a battle. He is lunging up on his back leggs and barking with this high pitch screeching and if it wasn't for the two leashes he would've dragged me down the street. Once I walked him at night and he saw his shadow on a wall he went ballistic so we just went back home.

    • @paulmazzei1109
      @paulmazzei1109 5 років тому +1

      @@MsPhillyG Ok so first thing I would do is toss that choke chain, dogs have no problems choking themselves out to get what they want. If you see, most of the time Tom uses a 'prong collar' (they look much worse than they are). This gives you way more control over your dog and helps give quick corrections. My biggest piece of advice for your situation is to get a good trainer in your area that deals with issues like yours. It seems he is reactive towards alot of things so building that confidence for him and yourself should be priority #1

    How old is that pup. I have a 4 month old German Shepherd and he likes to grab the leash with his mouth and walk in front of me pretty much. Also I feel like her is very weary of strangers in general. Are usually walk him off leash at a park street from me and he follows me pretty good he does not wander off. But he is weary of the people around and sometimes he will bark at them and his hackles but I guess it’s just because he’s Nervous.

    That breed of dog barking at a stranger is what it do. Cane corso are used for guarding live stock and the family it grew up with. When someone coming up to the door and its barking then it doing it job. After the owner tells it not to bark with the guess inside and the dog still barking then that a problem...to me at least.
