Monk's block chords behind the soloist are spectacular.
4:04!
Perfectly stated, and such a magnificent performance
Historical performance in Norway!
This is some of the greatest, most underrated ensemble playing ever. Monk was light years beyond other “Greats” on so many levels.
"Underrated" is one of the most used words about you tube's music comments. For me there are two problems: 1) you don't know the sense of this word; 2) you don't know jazz music and jazz players. So, this big quartet was not underrated, is just the true. The maniacs of "underrated word" must study...or your world is a terrible underrated world? Maybe you feel underrated.
@@alessandromarchesini9039 (( Would you identify the other musucians, pls?
,(( Have ah been the only 'naivist' to have, at times, found it difficult to understand how
"Mr Thelonius" could have composed/arranged this?¿!
.and how no one, (outside these circles) from Netherlands (on yt) has'nt known of him or like any gREAT cats in a lONG, lONG time? - It might (eventually) be some kind of lead or link into understanding the mysteriously lost Mayans!
Well, tryin to get in some final questions with a touch of trrrying light hearted humor.
ThanK yoU, brthr sir. *3
Here we go again with under rated... what a useless and ignorant comment. 🤦♂️
😂i am swooning

I just LOVE how Monk's ivories and Charlie Rouse's sax wrap around each other, like two serpents making love. Two men, four hands, twenty fingers and one brain. Pure telepathy and quintessential Jazz!
There are approximately 86 billion neurons in the human brain! 6:00!
We find that the African elephant brain, which is about three times larger than the human brain, contains 257 billion (109) neurons, three times more than the average human brain; however, 97.5% of the neurons in the elephant brain (251 billion) are found in the cerebellum. 6:25

Monk, the master of dissonance.
Great 😊😊👌 group playing one of Monk's signature tunes.
So memorable !
Awesome stuff.
Love Mr Monk
Superb Dexter Gordon on the saxophone
Charlie Rouse
I love the ending on this! It reminds me of the ending of The Addams Family!
Oh. And the music!
Monk festival at Douglass High School in Leesburg Virginia September 1, 2023. 7pm.
4:56 how nice of him!
C’est l’un des meilleur morceau de jazz mais si peu sous estimé… 😢
Un increíble Monk, fiel a su estilo disonante, jugando con las teclas con sus dedos, brazo y codo. Un crack!!!
I love this! I had never heard of Monk before today. I am hearing about music hrtz? Anyone know what hrtz he played in?
Hermosa pieza. Estoy leyendo a Muñoz Molina que comenta
This song is like Monk teaching musical theory for how he manipulates and innovates the melody is a new type of syncopation in JAZZ,and it's very understandable how he and DEWEY could come to blows about the interruption of this Jazz classic standard
Thank you Jamie Foxx. You landed me here.
Tenor saxophonist looks like Wayne Shorter to me. Others have said Charlie Rouse and Dexter Gordon... doesn't look like either of those guys to me.
Nick Nurse brought me here
FRUKO Y SUS PRESOS
lol why is he in a chair
When you spend so much time of your days and nights sitting at the piano you might appreciate something a little more comfortable than a wooden bench...
@@gillesmarin yeah that makes sense
@@daman7387 Also, I suspect that he never cared for a formal wooden bench and maybe even grew up learning the piano sitting on a chair...
