I owned the 701 Vitpilen, until some rat nicked it. I'd go for this: screw the modes, screw the TC and ABS and screw the duke bars, I'd fit some clip ones and get it back to the ethos the previous incarnation was built with. Looks cool.
The 2020 790 was 105 hp. So this thing isn’t giving “extra” power. Back in 2020 I bought said 790 for £6995 brand new. The Husky is too expensive. I owned the 701 Svartpilen and Vitpilen. Seemed to have more character than this. And they didn’t sell until they were massively reduced in price. It’s way too expensive and then they have the nerve to charge extra for dynamic mode. 🤦♂️
Bang for buck aside (where I live this bike pushes into MT-09 SP territory fully equipped) the Vitpilen 801 is the most attractive middle weight bike in KTMs lineup.
Great styling exercise. I can't believe that KTM is still trying to sell the 790 after they released the 890R and the journos explained to us how compromised the 790 was and then all the reliability issues came to light.
Okay, I'm officially jealous again! But getting past that, did you ever ride the old Nuda? Now the Pilens are twin cylinder, I wonder how they compare with the much missed Nuda.
I owned and loved a 2018 Vitpilen 701 for a few years and I was very excited for what I hoped was a Vitpilen 901 since I love the KTM 890. The Vitpilen 801 does seem like a pretty solid bike and it looks much better than the Svartpilen IMO but I ended up going with a new Street Triple 765RS and have no regrets. It just feels like a more special bike than these new 801s . That said, if I had a surplus of cash and I couldn't find another 701 I'd probably get a high vis yellow 801!
So, in your video description you say, "let's hope the cam issue has been sorted" followed right up with "now may be the best time to buy a bike from the Pierer Mobility Group." So, what is the thought here? it is a good time to buy and then just wish upon a star? You guys are usually pretty good on reviews, but this felt like I was watching a marketing video.
No, they have hopefully fixed the issue and also tightened down on their customer service, if you want a bike from the group it might be a good time to buy. This is just a first ride remember, it's not a review Timothy. Also, only pretty good, what more do you want for free! 🤣
@@BikeWorldTVshow 🤣 Well done Sir, well done. "pretty good" is actually high praise from me, you should hear how I talk about MCN, and I pay them actual money 🤣
@ Why would you pay them anything, buy a hoodie from us instead, much warmer. Sorry this one wasn’t up to our usual standard for you, as I said, there’s not much you can say on a launch ride.
Had Road 6 on my S1000R and they were shit. Some people say they're great, some say they are shit, I don't know what to think, but my experience with those tyres was not pleasant or confidence inspiring.
So much money for just another parallel twin. Yeah, it looks nice, but you can get a XSR900 for the same money that has more of everything, especially reliability.
Good luck selling one when it's out of warranty. Looks great but KTM have taken the piss for too long and now it's come back to bite them in the ass . Shame!
Three things that would massively increase respect for KTM products: 1. Fix your stinking 790/890 engine problems, and by fix, I mean full admittance, full recall, and customer incentives. 2. Stop the "buy modes after purchase" crap. Full stop. 3. Hire style designers who aren't using mushrooms and meth. #3 above doesn't apply to Husqvarna.
Not as nice looking as the 701 vitpilen cafe racer to be honest. Its a ktm duke mixed with a mt07 styling. Another 2 cylinder bike in a market overfloding with em right now.
Caution, I will be a devil's advocate here. Regarding the value for money, one can very well look at it the other way around and say that it's a great value for money compared to 990 duke. Regarding paying for rider modes, KTM ain't the only one who does that. At Yamaha one has to pay for the SP model (of MT-09) to have all rider modes yet no one gives them heat for that. Nonetheless, hating on KTM is what cool kids do these days, so I'll leave you to it.
@@EfferusZangetsu Indeed, but no. There is no hardware reason why that rider mode cannot exist on a basic MT-09, yet Yamaha elected to not to enable it. But you're of course right in that the SP provides more features, I was just focusing on the software.

For this kind of money I'm going with the Triumph Street Triple 765 al day long!!!
I was wondering if anyone else felt the same as me. And, Triumph offer cruise control for the 765, now, which makes it that much better of a bike.
I think this is the best looking in class, but I'd take the Hornet 1000 SP if I was going to spend 10K on a sporty naked. Incredible value!
Not even a comparison for me - I just find this Husky looks incredibly boring, so it is no question the Triumph for me all day long.
On the face of it/first impressions, I prefer the looks of the old 701 bikes.
Love the neo look of it. If I were not bought a Triumph 765RS - this would be my next bike for sure
